아트 메이크업 일러스트레이션에 관한 연구

Abstract

인간의 치장에 대한 욕구는 인류의 역사와 그 맥을 같이 한다고 할만큼 인간의 미적욕구(美的欲求)는 본능적이다. 그러나 미(美)에 관한 기준은 매우 가변적(可變的)이어서 그 시대의 문화를 적극적으로 반영한다. 아트 메이크업은 고대의 원시부족에게서는 자기보호나 주술적 의미로만 시도되었으며, 작가의 예술의지에 의한 내면적 감성 표출의 의미는 아니었다. 그러나 현대의 아트 메이크업은 다양한 개성표현의 욕구에 의해, 일반화되고 도식화된 메이크업에 대한 상식을 초월하여 작가의 주관적 감성(感性)을 인체를 통하여 예술적으로 표현하는 것을 의미한다. 20세기는 인류의 역사에서 근대와 현대를 구분 짓는 중요한 분기점으로 인식된다. 20세기 초반에 태동한 표현주의는 기존의 질서와 가치에 대한 신뢰가 무너진 위기적 상황에서 방황하는 인간 정신의 표명인 동시에 새로운 가치와 질서를 염원하는 노력의 예술적 결실이라고 볼 수 있다. 이러한 관점에서 볼 때 20세기 초반의 상황과 한 세기가 지난 21세기 초반인 지금의 상황은 매우 유사한 모습을 담고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 아트 메이크업과 일러스트레이션, 표현주의의 상관관계를 고찰하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 따라서 표현주의를 시각적 매체를 통하여 표현한 회화를 중심으로 연구한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 첫째, 표현주의 회화는 추(醜)의 미(美)를 미의 범주로 인정한 첫 시도로 볼 수 있다. 이전까지 회화의 예술적 가치는 절대적인 아름다움에 있었다. 그러나 표현주의 미술은 무질서, 추함, 왜곡, 모호성 등에 관심을 가지게 되었다. 이는 사회적 위기나 정신적 불안정 상태에서 보여지는 감성으로 형식에 얽매이지 않고 개인적 내면 세계를 표출함으로써 사회를 풍자하는 기능을 가졌다. 둘째, 표현주의자들은 세련되거나 잘 다듬어진 기법보다는 투박하고 거친 원시적인 아름다움에 관심을 가졌다. 표현주의의 원시성에는 단순성과 미숙성(未熟性), 극도의 왜곡이 특징으로 나타나는데 이는 현대문명에 대한 회의, 순수한 자연과 때묻지 않은 과거의 회상, 그곳으로 회귀하고자 하는 본능에 기인한 것이다. 위와 같은 표현주의 회화의 특징이 현대 메이크업에 반영되어 다양한 양식으로 나타나는데, 그 현상을 바탕으로 다음과 같은 특징을 본 연구자는 제시하였다. 첫째, 그로데스크한 감성을 선호하여 블랙과 같이 어둡고 탁한 색상을 선호하게 되었다. 블랙은 부정적인 이미지, 어둡고 신비하면, 괴기스러운 느낌을 전달하기 위한 색채로 가장 적합한 색상이기 때문이다. 이러한 일반적 상식에서 아름답지 못한 부정적 이미지의 추(醜)가 미(美)의 영역에 포함되어 극단적으로 대두되게 되었다. 둘째, 불안하고 암담한 사회에 대한 불만은 과거로 되돌아가고자 하는 회귀성을 나타내게 되는데 이러한 심리에서 표면화된 것이 에스닉(Ethnic)의 유행이다. 특히 현대의 패션에서 에스닉의 경향은 매우 빈번하게 발견되는데 이러한 영향으로 인하여 메이크업에서도 원시적 형태의 타투나 색채, 형태들을 선호하게 되는 결과를 가지게 되었다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 표현주의의 그로데스크한 미학과 원시적 색채와 형태미를 살려서 아트 메이크업 일러스트레이션 작품을 5점 제작하였다. 그 결과 본 연구자는 다음과 같은 결론을 얻게 되었다. 첫째, 표현주의 회화가 가진 인간의 내부심리 표출에 대한 특성은 그 중심 화자가 인간이며, 인간에 대한 관심에서 출발한다는 점에서 아트 메이크업으로 표현하기에 좋은 소재가 된다. 그 이유는 아트 메이크업은 인체를 통해서만 표현이 가능한 예술이므로 인간에 대한 관심이 가장 기본적이라고 할 수 있다. 둘째, 표현주의의 왜곡된 조형감각과 거칠고 원색적인 색채감각은 바디아트 메이크업 일러스트레이션으로 표현하기에 좋은 소재가 되었다. 이러한 그로데스크한 구성과 원시적 조형미는 단순화되어 나타나는 일러스트레이션의 작품성을 보다 회화적으로 유용하게 하여 주었다. 셋째, 이러한 회화적 특성과 메이크업의 접목은 무한한 창작의 가능성을 부여할 수 있으며 보다 다양한 메이크업의 영역을 발전시키는데 일조할 수 있으리라고 사료된다.|Contrary to traditional make-up, modem art make-up artfully expresses subjective sensibility through body. The purpose of this thesis is to examine the correlation between art make-up illustration and expressionism of painting. Expressionism, a major movement in painting that developed chiefly in Germany during the early 20th centuries is a light, spontaneous manner of painting as a reaction against the formalism of the dominant academic style. Expressionism is the result of effort to pursuit of new value and order in chaotic situation of the late 19th century, in which old order and value are collapsed and new order is not built yet. Through analysis of visual art paintings which reflect expressionism, I was able to result in the following facts. First, expressionism includes the beauty of ugliness in beautifulness category for the first time. Instead of traditional concerns to absolute beautifulness, expressional art is even interested in chaos, distortion, and ambiguity. This trend which results from social crisis and spiritual instability is able to express internal world and satirize society without formality. Second, expressionists are more concerned to wild and primitive beautifulness than sophisticated and established one. Expressionistic primitiveness is featured as simplicity, prematurity, and extreme distortion, and this is reflecting skepticism on modern civilization and memory about pure nature and the untainted past. Reflecting above expressionistic art trends, modem art make-up has showed various interesting features which are summarized as follows. First, due to emphasizing grotesque emotion, dark and dull color is preferred. Since black gives negative, weird, dark, and mystic impression, black color is appropriate to express grotesqueness. Thus the beauty of ugliness becomes to be included in the aesthetic realm. Second, people yearn for the past because of disappointing modem days and anxiety, and thus Ethnic becomes popular. Owing to the influence of Ethnic trend in modem fashion, modem make-up prefers primitive colors, tattoo, shapes. I have made 5 art make-up illustration works reflecting expressionistic grotesqueness and primitive colors and shapes analyzed above and arrived at the following conclusion. Body art make-up has comparative advantage to reveal internal mentality which is the main theme in expressionistic paintings. Since body art makeup express only through human body, it basically concerns about human beings and thus humanistic. Body art make-up is intrinsically pertinent to express wild and primary colors and distorted shapes of impressionism. The last conclusion is that make-up joined with art gives unlimited possibility of creation and it can also help to enlarge the fields of art make-up.
