舞臺公演에 나타난 扮裝에 관한 硏究

Abstract

뮤지컬은 대중성과 오락성, 통속성, 역사성을 두루 갖춘 종합적인 예술 형태로서 대중에게 강하게 어필하고 있는 장르이다. 그 특성상 규모가 크고 화려하며 객석과 무대의 거리가 먼 것을 고려하여 무대 위에서 시각적으로 보다 정확하게 보여지려면 분장과 조명, 의상 등 무대 위에서의 모든 디자인적 요소들과의 관계성이 매우 중요하다고 할 수 있다. 분장은 철저한 작품 분석과 배우의 특징을 잘 파악하여 극중인물의 성격에 가장 가깝게 표현하여 배우로 하여금 자기최면과 심리적 안정을 갖게 해주어 작품의 완성도를 최고로 끌어올리는 중요한 요소라 할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 1995년에서부터 2002년까지 관객동원과 흥행성공으로 연극계를 장식한 뮤지컬 장르에 관심을 갖고 우리나라의 창작 뮤지컬로는 처음으로 뉴욕 브로드웨이와 영국 웨스트 엔드 진출에 성공한 '명성황후'를 중심으로 뮤지컬의 배경과 특징, 한국 뮤지컬의 배경, 무대분장의 개념과 무대분장의 종류에 대하여 이론적 고찰을 하였다. 또한 뮤지컬 '명성황후'의 작품 분석과 등장 인물에 따른 무대분장을 알아보고 일러스트, 사진자료와 표로 제시하였다. 명성황후의 분장은 한나라의 국모로서의 품위와 아름다움을 부각시키도록 하였고 대원군의 분장은 완고한 이미지의 절대권력을 쥔 노인의 분장을 얼굴의 음영과 주름을 주어 나타냈으며 고종의 분장은 나약하고 우유부단한 이미지를 강조하였고 미우라의 분장은 거만하고 주도면밀한 성격을 홍계훈의 분장은 젊은 무장의 패기를 나타내려고 하였다. 이와 같이 무대공연에서 분장의 구체적인 형상화를 위해 작품에 대한 이해와 등장 인물에 대한 성격 분석이 필요하며 그에 따른 분장작업계획서, 일러스트를 작성하는 것이 도움이 됨을 알 수 있었다. 그러나 본 연구에서는 분장과 조명 등 무대 위에서의 모든 디자인적 요소들에 대하여 다루지 못하였으므로 이에 대한 연구가 이루어져야 할 것이다.|Musical is a form of synthetic arts which consists of popularity, entertainment and history and a genre which strongly appeals to the mass. Due to its characteristic, its scale is large and magnificent. And considering the distance between the auditorium and the stage the need to be seen more accurately on stage and all the designing elements on stage including make-up, lighting, costume, etc. have a very importance relation. Make-up can be defined as a significant element which manifests a character as best as it can by analyzing the work and by understanding the characteristics of the character and which helps the actor to hypnotize himself and to maintain his mental stability. This contributes to elevating the completeness of the work to the highest degree. In this research, the backgrounds and characteristics of general musicals, the backgrounds of the Korean musicals, the concept of stage make-up and its types were observed focusing on 'Empress Myeong-Seong', which attracted a considerable number of audience and succeeded in the entertainment industry from 1995 to 2002 and which was introduced in New York Broadway and West End in England for the first time in the history of the Korean original musicals. Also, the analysis of the work and the stage make-up of the characters were studied and shown in illustrations, photographs and tables. The make-up of Empress Myeong-Seong stressed on expressing her dignity and beauty as the mother of the people and that of Dae-Won-Gun tried to show a stubborn old man grabbing definite power in his hand through the shadows and wrinkles on his face. The make-up of King Go-Jong stressed on his weak and indecisive image, that of Miura, his arrogant and careful personality and that of Hong Gye-Hun, his bravery as a young general. Likewise, in order to shape detailed make-up in stage performance the understanding of the work and the analysis on the characters are needed. And in this process, framing the plans and illustrations for make-up is helpful. However, since this research did not introduce all the other designing elements on stage including make-up and lighting, further study needs to be done.
