초현실주의 트롱프뢰유 기법에 의한 바디페인팅 작품제작 연구

Abstract

현대사회는 경제와 문화산업이 발전함과 동시에 빠르게 변화되어지고 있다. 앞만 바라보며 바쁘게 살아가는 진취적인 현대사회에서도 여가시간을 통해 문화생활을 즐기려는 사람들이 늘어나면서 문화예술분야는 다양한 발전과 변화가 지속적으로 이루어지고 있으며, 이는 매우 다양한 문화를 접하게 되는 계기가 되고 있다. 미용분야는 사람이 아름다워지고자 하는 본능적 욕구를 충족시키기 위해 새로운 시도를 위해 꾸준히 연구되어지고 있으며 특히 바디페인팅은 21세기에 들어서면서 새롭게 급부상 하는 조형예술의 하나로서 상업예술로까지 발전하여 퍼포먼스, 광고 등 여러 영역으로 점차 확대되어 가고 있으며 대중화되어 가고 있다. 이러한 바디페인팅은 다양한 주제와 기법을 응용하여 창의적인 작품들이 제작되어지고 있으며 새로운 작품들을 표현하기 위해 다른 분야와의 접목도 꾸준히 이루어지고 있다. 특히 미술사와 접목하여 더욱 새로운 작품들이 탄생하고 있으며 예술적 풍부함을 느낄 수 있게 된다. 따라서 본 연구는 미술사조의 하나인 초현실주의의 트롱프뢰유 기법을 급부상 하고 있는 바디페인팅 분야에 접목시켜 작품을 제작하였으며 트롱프뢰유 기법을 응용한 바디페인팅 작품들이 다양하게 나타나 앞으로 바디페인팅 작품제작에 새로운 가능성을 주고자 하였다. 본 연구에서는 먼저 초현실주의의 기법을 오토마티즘, 프로타주, 데칼코마니, 콜라주, 데페이즈망, 트롱프뢰유 기법 6가지로 분류하여 정리하였고, 그 중 착시현상을 일으키는 트롱프뢰유 기법을 회화 작품, 패션, 광고, 스트리트 아트 & 건축 작품, 디지털 아트 분야로 고찰하고 분석하여 여러 분야에서 활용된 다양한 작품 사례를 연구하였으며, 이를 토대로 본 연구자가 트롱프뢰유 기법이 활용된 바디페인팅 작품 6점을 제작 하였다. 연구의 이론적 고찰 및 결과를 정리 해 보면 다음과 같다.

첫째, 바디페인팅은 인체를 대상으로 하는 특징을 살려 창의적인 작품들의 표현이 가능한 조형예술의 하나이며, 캔버스에 그리는 평면적 작품들과는 달리 신체의 곡선을 살리며 모델의 움직임으로 인하여 아티스트의 창의적인 작품세계를 더욱 더 극대화시켜 표현할 수 있는 종합예술임을 알 수 있었다.

둘째, 초현실주의는 20세기의 가장 중요한 예술운동의 하나로 잠재의식의 세계와 꿈에 대한 재해석, 인간의 내적 무의식 등을 추구하며 제약 없는 다양한 회화적 기법들을 창출하여 매우 자유분방한 작품들이 대거 출현하게 되었다.

셋째, 트롱프뢰유 기법은 본래 사실적으로 표현하여 시각적 착시현상을 일으키는 눈속임 기법으로 초현실주의 시대에 획기적인 작품들이 많이 탄생하였고 다른 초현실주의 작품들과는 차별성을 띄고 있었으며 현대에 와서 사실적 이미지와 동시에 알아차리는 재미를 유발하는 확장된 개념으로 발전됨을 알 수 있었다.

넷째, 주로 인체의 아름다움을 살리는 바디페인팅 작품과 다르게 트롱프뢰유 기법을 접목시켜 바디페인팅 작품을 구성한 결과 인체를 무시한 상태로도 디자인 표현이 연출되었다.

다섯째, 트롱프뢰유 기법을 바디페인팅 작품에 적용함으로서 독특한 발상 능력을 향상할 수 있으며, 보는 이로 하여금 상상력을 자극하며 재미를 동시에 유발하여 바디페인팅에 새로운 기법으로 자리 잡아 활용될 수 있는 가능성을 열어줌을 알 수 있었다.

따라서 본 연구의 의의는 트롱프뢰유 기법에서 나타나는 착시효과의 특성을 바디페인팅 작품에 적용하여 제작함으로 기존의 틀에서 벗어나 새로운 바디페인팅 작품의 표현이 가능하게 됨을 제안 해 봄으로서 우리나라 바디페인팅 분야에 착각·착시효과로 인해 기존의 작품들보다 많은 이들의 재미와 관심을 유발하여 대중화되는데 있다. 본 연구가 조금이나마 작품 영역이 확대되고 바디페인팅 분야에 새로운 기법들을 정착시켜 바디페인팅의 입지를 높이는데 도움이 되기를 기대 해 본다.

| Modern society is going through rapid changes with the development of economy and cultural industry. More and more people want to enjoy cultural life in their leisure time even in progressive modern society in which people are in hustle and bustle, going and looking forward. Thus the fields of culture and art have continuously undergone diverse developments and changes, exposing modern people to very diverse cultural opportunities. The field of beauty art has consistently researched new attempts to meet the primary human need for being beautiful. As one of the rapidly emerging formative arts in the 21st century, body painting has evolved into commercial art, gradually expanded to more and more areas including performance and advertising, and become increasingly popular. Creative works of body painting are created by the application of various themes and techniques. The field of body painting has constantly been incorporated into other fields to express and create new works. Its integration with art history, in particular, has given birth to more refreshing works and presents artistic richness. In this study, the investigator created works by incorporating the trompe-l'oeil technique of surrealism, one of the trends in art history, into the rapidly emerging field of body painting and attempted to open new possibilities for the creation of body painting works with more diverse examples with the application of the trompe-l'oeil technique. The study first categorized the surrealist techniques into six groups, namely Automatism, Frottage, Decalcomanie, Collage, Depaysement, and Trompe-l'oeil and looked into and analyzed the trompe-l'oeil causing an optical illusion in the fields of painting, fashion, advertising, street art & architecture, and digital art. Based on the research on its various applications in many different fields, the investigator created six body painting works by applying the trompe-l'oeil technique. The theoretical considerations and research findings are summarized as follows:

First, body painting is one of formative arts that can express creative works, highlighting the characteristics of the human body, as well as composite art that maximizes an artist's creative world of works for expression by making the body curves look alive and employing the model's movements unlike two-dimensional works on the canvas.

Second, surrealism is one of the most important art movements in the 20th century. It gave birth to a wide range of painting techniques with no restrictions and further a large amount of very free works by reinterpreting the subconscious world and dreams and seeking after the internal unconsciousness of man.

Third, the trompe-l'oeil was originally a technique to play tricks on the eyes, causing optical illusions with realistic expressions. In the surrealist period, it created many revolutionary works differentiated from other surrealist works. In the modern times, it has evolved into an expanded concept that stimulates realistic images and simultaneously recognized fun.

Fourth, the investigator was able to express design with no attention to the human body by applying the trompe-l'oeil technique to body painting unlike those body painting works highlighting the beauty of human body.

Finally, the investigator was also able to improve her unique conception skills and stimulate imagination and fun in the viewers by applying the trompe-l'oeil to her body painting works, thus opening a possibility of the trompe-l'oeil technique being established as a new technique in body painting.

The study claims its significance in that it applied the characteristics of optical illusion to body painting works with the trompe-l'oeil technique, demonstrated the new possible expressions of body painting works beyond the existing framework, and contributed to the popularization of body painting in the nation by stimulating fun and interest in more people with misunderstanding and optical illusion effects than the existing works. The study will hopefully help the field of body painting expand its scope of works, have new techniques settle down in it, and raise its status.
