A Study on the Make-up according as An CG Expression Technique of the Movie 'The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button‘

We have many chances to see the Special Effects and the Special make-up in the movie. Which are often showed by SF movies. According as the time fast, technology of the movie industry is getting better than before.

This study speculate technical aspects of Special Effects which rise to the future film industry's pivot focusing, on the representative Hollywood Movies and How the make-up according as an expression technique of the Special Effect.

Drastic development of Scientific Technology influences technical development of Special Effects and Special Make-up. Especially Computer Graphic will occupy great part in this area. In the development of 3D CG, the actual measurement and actual description based modeling methods using camera or 3D scanner emerged and realistic images could be implemented in rendering using Ray Tracing. However, rendering still needs much time and methods satisfying high quality and real time rendering requirements are needed. Also, high quality results need to high quality bases. Which means Special make-up should be high quality. We always try to how we can make high quality original. Unlike general make-up that pursues beauty, Special make-up focuses on realistic effect, and it cannot make any progress without new. Especially, we can figure it out how important the Special make-up, in the Hollywood movie(The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, 2008). That movie is famous for the best CG work. However, Special make-up is more fantastic. They used special tissue paper that is thinner than tissue. And, they made lines on the face, naturally. In this movie, we can see the many different ages faces of the Benjamin Button. They were almost made by special make-up. The human faces provide a great deal of information in regard to race, age, sex, personality, feeling condition , etc. If we pay a close attention to the aging process, we figure it out that facial shape varies according to age. Because of there exists any rules for the face variation. So, we can predicting the future face for age change using average faces with face modeller software. Great base makes great CG work. We recognize how important the special make-up than, we have to know how to use many different kinds of materials. Also, we have to know how to Make-up according as An Expression Technique of the Special Effect. When we know the other part, we can makes higher quality results than before.
