KDC 第4版에서의 四部分類 項目 展開의 改善方案에 관한 硏究
- Abstract
- In Four Category Classification Items of KDC, there have been some changes from the first edition to the fourth one. Amendments and expansions concerning the system and development of the new studies, however, have not been made.
In order to find the defects and to supplement them the study focuses on the following issues; upfolding and development of Four Category Classification Items, development from the first to the fourth edition, features of oriental decimal classification and the development of Four Category Classification and expansion development of the special topics. The study also includes an evaluation of the Four Category Classification Items based on the analysis of the aforementioned issues and offers suggestions on possible amendments.
This study limits its scope to the Four Category Classification of KDC. The order of the items is made based on 『Sagojeonseochongmok(四庫全書總目)』, beginning with Gyeong(經), then to Sa(史), Ja(子) and to Jip(集).
The origin of Four Category Classification dates back to 『Chillyak(七略)』 and the groundwork for the classification was established at 『Suseogyeongjeokji(隨書經籍志)』 and systemization of the classification was completed by the time of 『Sagojeonseochongmok(四庫全書總目)』. 『Sagojeonseochongmok(四庫全書總目)』 was classified into Gyeong(經), Sa(史), Ja(子) and Jip(集) and was further divided into 44 divisions(類) and 66 sections(屬).
As a result of this study, following facts are uncovered.
1) The analysis of the development process of the four editions in KDC confirmed that the Four Category Classification items went through different phases of changes including a) change of terms, b) the movement of the classification item, addition, c) modificationand deletion of notes and d) addition and deletion of items.
The changes in ‘Gyeongbu(經部)’ include those of the following:
Some changes were made in ‘Gyeongjeonryu(經典類)’ but such changes were made within the frame of the first edition. In ‘Sohakryu(小學類)’, some movements were made in the classification items and changes in notes and addition of items also occurred.
The changes in ‘Sabu(史部)’ include those of the following:
Some changes were made in histories, ‘moklokryu(目錄類)’ and ‘Jeongiryu(傳記類)’.
The changes in ‘Japbu(子部)’ include those of the following:
There was a remarkably large range of changes in Buddhist and Oriental Medicine texts. There were amendments made to reflect the features of the Oriental Medicine, in particular.
The changes in ‘Jipbu(集部)’ include those of the following:
There were some changes of terms and addition of the items.
Although there were some changes were made, detailed upfolding of old documents and additions of the new items that are necessary for the Four Category Classification were absent. Furthermore, the amendments did not reflect certain facts including the fact that the unfolding tended to focus more on the Western Medicine than on Oriental counterpart, the fact the Buddhists texts were slanted towards the Northern Scriptures and the fact the Korean music does not recognize further classification of the traditional music.
2) The results of the analysis of CSC (amended 8th edition), CLC (4th edition), NDC (9th edition) and KDC 4th edition are as follows:
First, KDC ‘Gyeongjeonryu(經典類)’, when compared to the CSC and CLC, made additions of ‘Samryechongeui(三禮總義)’, ‘Tongrye(通禮)’, ‘Japrye(雜禮)’ and additions of notes were made in ‘Samjeonchongeui(三傳總義)’ and ‘Samjeonimun(三傳異文)’. ‘Nonmaeng(論孟)’ and ‘Hakyong(學庸)’ made new additions of items based on CSC. ‘Sohakryu(小學類)’ reasoned ‘Sound-Notating Alphabet(注音符號)’ items based on CSC and ‘Jaseoryu(字書類)’ were divided in detail.
Second, KDC’s ‘Geumseokryu(金石類)’ rearranged epigraphy and numismatics as sub items of archeology, based on CSC and CLC. ‘Yugi(遊記)’, which experienced considerable amount of increase in numbers of relevant books, were divided in detail based in CLC.
Third, ‘Siryeongryu(時令類)’ and ‘Goeuigi(古儀器)’, which were not included as items in KDC, were added in as new items based on CSC and CLC.
Fourth, KDC’s chronology of Korean literature history was specified.
3) The scope of Special Topic Expansion Development is limited to physiognomy, Buddhist scriptures, Oriental medicine & Korean medicine, Korean music and to old documents.
First, ‘188.8 astrology’, the sub item of physiognomy which includes both oriental and western astrology under its classification number, is divided into ‘188.83 oriental astrology’ and ‘188.85 western astrology’. The western astrology is based on DDC 22nd edition.
Second, Southern Buddhist Scriptures were all categorized under ‘223.1’ and to improve this classification, it is rearranged into Northern Scriptures’ Gyeong(經)·Eyul(律)·Ron(論)·Jangwae(藏外) order but by using the system of Eyul(律)·Gyeong(經)·Ron(論)·Jangwae(藏外) of Southern Scriptures at the same time. Northern Scriptures were reorganized into the names of the classics.
Third, the Oriental medicine & Korean medicine section was in need of a reorganization of ‘519.01 theory’. ‘519.1 oriental medicine basics’ was developedin focus of the western medicine and ‘519.7 special oriental topics & Sasang constitutional medicine’ required further classification. ‘519.1 oriental medicine basics’ is modified and developed based on CLC and on considerations of Korean medicine system. 519.1 now includes sub items of ‘519.01 theory’ and ‘-.01-.09’ can be distinguished into standards. ‘519.7 special oriental topics & Sasang constitutional medicine’ has been added with ‘519.75 Hyungsang medicine’, ‘519.77 constitutional medicine’ and ‘519.78 folk remedies’. Parts of ‘519.76 oriental hygiene’ that falls under ‘517 hygiene’ has been adopted and developed.
Fourth, in Korean music, the 679 classification do not suit the traditional music system, no classification was given to cover the music from oriental kingdoms and the instrumental music classification was not suitable for traditional instruments. To correct those loopholes, ‘679.2 Court Music(正樂)’ and ‘679.3 folk music(民俗樂)’ were added to cover traditional classification system. ‘679.4 Korean Classical Opera(唱劇)’, ‘679.5 Newly Composed Korean Traditional Music(創作國樂)’ cover the rest of the topics that are not covered by traditional classification system. ‘679 Korean music’ is changed to ‘679 Korean music & oriental traditional music’ and Oriental traditional music is allocated to 679.9, enabling classification of the music from oriental kingdoms. The classification of instrumental music is based on the classification system of ‘Akhakgwebeom(樂學軌範)’.
Fifth, several types of old documents all fell under the same classification as ‘911.0091’. This has been modified by adopting the ‘Korean Old document Classification Table’ from the Korean Society of Old Documents. The table includes Gangmok(綱目).
On the basis of these result, I presented the improvement plan on Four Category Classification Items of the KDC fourth edition.
The additions of items in ‘Gyeongjeonryu’ include ‘144.5 Tongrye’, ‘144.6 Samryechongeui’, ‘144.7 Japrye’, ‘148.5 Nonmaeng’ and ‘146.8 Hakyong’. The additions in ‘Sohakrye’ include ‘721.23 annotation books(註釋本)’, ‘721.24 Six Chinese character type (六書)’, ‘721.26 Chinese characters(字形)’. A sub item of ‘980.22 historical site, famous temple, holy site’ has been added to Shipu. ‘911.0091 old document’ allows classicization of the documents by themes. In Oriental Medicine, items of 519.11-519.19 have been added including ‘519.75 Hyungsang medicine’, ‘519.77 constitutional medicine’, ‘519.78 folk remedies’ and ‘519.76 oriental hygiene’. In National Music, ‘679.2 Court Music’, ‘679.3 folk music’ ‘679.4 Korean Classical Opera’, ‘679.5 Newly Composed Korean Traditional Music’, ‘679.6 percussions’, ‘679.7 strings’, ‘679.8 winds’ and ‘679.9 oriental traditional music’ have been newly added. In Jabu, ‘521.49 Siryeong’ and ‘440.9021 Goeuigi’ have been added. Also, ‘188.8 astrology’ is divided into ‘188.83 oriental astrology’ and ‘188.85 western astrology’. In Buddhist scripts, ‘223.11 Gyeong(經)’, ‘223.12 Eyul(律)’, ‘223.13 Ron(論)’, ‘223.14 Jangwae’ has been added as sub items of ‘223.1 Southern Scripts’. In Chipu, ‘810.906 Cotemporary, 1910-’ has been changed to ‘810.906 20 century, 1910-1999’ and ‘810.907 21 century, 2000-’ has been added.
Changes on notes includes the modification of ‘146 Chunchu(春秋)’ notes to deliver explanations such as ‘includes Samjeonchongeui and samjeonimun’.
The movements of items are as follows:
‘721.3 notes’ has been moved to 721.18. ‘902.4 epigraphy’, ‘902.6 numismatics’ have been moved to ‘902.54 epigraphy’, ‘902.56 numismatics’ which both are sub items of ‘902.5 archeology’. ‘911.0024 epigraphy’, ‘911.0026 numismatics’ have been moved to ‘911.00254 epigraphy’, ‘911.00256 numismatics’, both of which are sub items of ‘911.0025 archeology’
