한국 내 외국인 유학생의 취업지원 수요에 관한 연구

Abstract

최근 유학생 수의 증가와 더불어 이들을 국내 우수 인적 자원으로서 활 용하기 위한 정책적 관심이 높아지고 있으나, 유학생을 위한 체계적인 전공 맞춤형 취업지원 연구는 여전히 부족한 실정이다. 이에 본 연구는 서울 소재 고등교육 기관에서 유학 중인 외국인 유학생을 대상으로 한국 내 취업계획, 취업경험, 취업지원 수요 및 취업역량에 대해 조사하였다. 조사결과 총 319부 의 유효 표본을 확보하였고 이를 바탕으로 기술통계, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe의 사후검정을 활용하여 분석을 수행하였다. 분석결과 첫째, 응답자의 절반 이상이 졸업 직후 한국취업을 희망하는 것으 로 나타났으며, 대다수가 한국에서의 취업에 대해 긍정적으로 인식하고 있음 을 확인 할 수 있었다. 둘째, 유학생의 취업지원 수요는 전반적으로 높은 수 준으로 나타났으며, 특히 이력서, 자기소개서 작성 지원, 자격증 취득지원, 모 의면접에 대한 요구가 높게 나타났다. 셋째, 전공에 따라 취업지원 수요 및 취업역량에서 모두 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 존재하였다. 특히 이공계열과 인문사회계열 집단의 차이가 유의하게 나타났으며 이공계열의 경우 인문사회 계열에 비해 취업지원수요가 높게 나타났고, 스스로 평가한 취업역량 역시 높 은 수준으로 나타났다. 반면 학위과정별 차이는 통계적으로 유의미하지 않았 으나 학부과정과 대학원 과정의 두 집단 간 취업역량 차이는 유의미하게 나 타났다. 본 연구는 대학에서 제공하는 유학생 대상의 취업지원 프로그램의 개선이 필요함을 논증하였고, 동시에 외국인 유학생의 특성을 고려한 맞춤형 취업지 원 제공의 필요성을 제기하였다. 향후에는 유학생의 효과적 활용과 한국 사회 에서의 성공적인 정착을 위해 질적 연구와 더 다양한 표본을 고려한 연구가 수반되어야 할 것이다.|With the rapid increase in the number of international students in Korea, policy interest in utilizing them as highly skilled human resources has been growing. However, research on systematic and major-tailored career support and settlement for international students remains limited. This study therefore examines the employment plans, job search experiences, demand for career support, and self-assessed employability of international students enrolled in higher education institutions located in Seoul. A total of 319 valid responses were collected through a survey, and descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, and Scheffe post-hoc tests were conducted for analysis. The results show, first, that more than half of the respondents hoped to find employment in Korea immediately after graduation, indicating an overall positive perception toward working in Korea. Second, the demand for career support was high across all categories, with particularly strong needs for assistance in résumé and cover letter preparation, certification, acquisition, and mock interview programs. Third, statistically significant differences were found across academic majors in both career support needs and employability. Students in science and engineering fields demonstrated higher demand for career support and evaluated their employability more positively than those in the humanities and social sciences. Although differences across degree levels (bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral) were not statistically significant, a meaningful difference in employability was identified between undergraduate and graduate-level students. This study underscores the need for tailored career support that reflects differences in academic major and degree level among international students. It also highlights the necessity of improving university-level career support services specifically designed for this group. To better support the effective utilization of international students and their successful settlement in Korean society, future studies should incorporate qualitative approaches and more diverse and balanced samples.
