조선시대 민화의 문자도를 응용한 바디페인팅 작품에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 문화예술 장르에서 새롭게 발전하고 있는 바디페인팅의 역사와 국내의 발전과정을 고찰하고, 이를 바탕으로 우리나라 민화의 한 장르인 문자도의 아름다움을 바디페인팅으로 재조명하고자 하였다. 일상적인 생활 공간 속에서 한민족의 생활철학과 정서를 담고 실용적 장식목적으로 형성된 민화는 그 독특한 아름다움과 조형세계로 인해 오늘날 여러 방면의 아트스트들에게 한국적 미감을 찾기 위한 요소로서 주목 받고 있다. 민화 중에서도 특히 문자도는 장식적 효과가 강조되어 뛰어난 조형미를 보여주고 있다. 이러한 민화의 디자인적 요소 뿐 아니라, 민화가 지닌 소박함과 여유로움 그리고 자유분방한 일방적인 특징은 우리나라의 바탕이 되고 있음을 보여주는 대표적인 사례라고 할 수 있다. 조선조의 민화는 자유로운 발상과 독특한 조형요소로 인해, 한국적인 이미지의 디자인 창작에 모티브가 될 가능성이 많다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 문자도의 디자인적인 요소는 국제적인 캐릭터로, 그리고 한 나라의 이미지를 살리는 로고체로도 발전될 가능성이 있음을 발견하였다. 바디페인팅의 여러가지 표현기법과 문자도의 디자인적 요소와 조형적 법칙을 적절히 배합하여 바디페인팅 작업을 시도함으로써 민화의 바람직한 현대적 계승을 모색하였다. 그 결과 민화와 같은 전통요소를 바디페인팅의 한국적 소재로 구현하고 현대적으로 활용하기 위해서는 외형만을 가시적으로 차용하는게 아니라 전통에 대한 올바른 인식을 확립하고, 체계적인 연구와 분석이 선행된 후에 전통의 세계화를 위한 새로운 창조가 이루어져야함을 인식 하였다. 본 연구는 바디페인팅의 표현기법중에서 회화적 기법을 이용하여 민화의 문자도를 작품으로 전개시킴으로서 바디페인팅 작업에 있어서 한국적인 소재의 가능성을 알아보는데 주안점을 두었다. 문자도를 독창적으로 변형시키지 않고 원형을 그대로 모사한 것은 문자도 자체의 미적 가치를 제손하지 않기 위한 것이었다. 그러나 민화 혹은 문자도가 바디페인팅의 소재가 되기 위해서는 독창적인 해석을 바탕으로 독창적인 표현이 이루어져야 할 것이다. 문자도를 독창적으로 표현하지 못한 것은 본 연구의 한계점이다. 문자도를 응용한 바디페인팅 작품을 통해 본 연구자는 다음과 같은 결론을 얻을 수 있었다. 민화가 보여주는 자유로운 상상력과 표현력 그리고 독특한 조형미는 바디페인터의 창의력에 많은 귀감을 주며 응용·발전시킬 수 있는 소재가 될 것으로 생각된다.|This researcher tried to study the history and inland development course of body painting which is developing newly in the genre of culture art and illuminate the beauty of character drawing which is one genre of the folk painting of our country again with body painting on the basis of it. Folk painting formed for the purpose of practical decoration with the life philosophy and emotion of Korean race in daily life space is attracting the attention of artists of various fields as the element for finding Korean aesthetic sense because of the special beauty and plastic world. Out of folk paintings, character drawing is showing excellent plastic beauty, as decorative effect is emphasized. Simplicity, superfluity and free general feature that folk painting has as well as the this design element of folk painting may be referred to as representative cases which are showing that the work of body painting of our country becomes complete aesthetic basis to be able to develop as the art genre of world level. It could be seen that there are many possibilities to be able to be the motive for the design creation of Korean image in the folk painting in Chosun dynasty because of free concept and special plastic elements. This researcher discovered that there is the possibility that the design element of character drawing may develop as international character and as logo tyle to give life to the image of one nation. This researcher groped for the desirable modem succession of folk painting by trying the work of body painting through combining the various expression techniques of body painting and the design element and plastic law of character drawing properly. As the result, this researcher recognized that new creation for the globalization of tradition should be made after establishing right recognition about tradition and preceding systematic study and analysis without borrowing only external form visually, so as to realize traditional element like folk painting with the Korean material of body painting and utilize it modernly. In this study, this researcher aimed at examine the possibility of Korean material in the work of body painting by unfolding the character drawing of folk painting as work through using pictorial technique out of the expression techniques of body painting. The reason why this researcher copied original form as it was without transforming character drawing originally was for not damaging the aesthetic value of character drawing, itself. But, for enabling folk painting or character drawing to be the material of body painting, original expression will have to be made on the basis of original interpretation. Failing to express character drawing is the uppermost limit of this study. This researcher could obtain the following conclusion through the work of body painting which applied character drawing. This researcher thinks that free imagination, power of expression, and special palstic beauty that folk painting shows will exemplify itself to the originality of body painting much and they will be the materials to be able to be applied and developed.
