바디아트의 표현적 특성과 형태 연구

Abstract

인류의 태동과 함께 시작됐던 바디 아트는 고대 원시사회에서부터 문명이 극도로 발달한 현대사회에 이르기까지 인간의 본능적, 사회적 표현욕구를 충족시키기 위해 다양한 방법으로 이용되어 왔다. 바디 아트는 상흔, 문신, 채색, 제거, 변형 등을 통한 일시적 혹은 영구적 신체 장식 방법으로 인간의 신체에 시각적으로 표현할 수 있는 모든 방법을 동원하여 이미지를 형상화하는 의식화된 행위이자 표현의 양식이요. 예술과 인간이 조화된 독창적 예술이라 할 수 있다. Body Art는 심리적, 신체적 보호 수단만이 아니라 본능적인 미적 표현의식의 발로이며 그 시대의 문화와 사회 현상을 반영한다. 바디 아트는 집단 의식과 종교 의식을 나타내는 특성이 있다. 또한 심리적, 사회적, 신체적 보호의 의미도 지니고 있으며 에로티시즘 적이고 하위 문화적인 표현 특성도 있다. 각 민족의 Body Art의 표현 특성을 살펴보면 그들 민속의 독자적인 표식이나 문양을 발견하게 된다. 이것은 자연 환경과 일상에서 일어날 수 있는 일들을 그들이 자기 민족의 시대적, 역사적, 종교적, 미적 생활 감정을 반영하여 그 민족의 기호성에 맞게 구성하였기 때문이며 바디 아트는 그런 의식을 반영한 상징적 행위라 할 수 있다. 이들의 민족적 사상과 예술적 혼은 신체를 생동감 있는 예술품으로 바꾸어 놓았고 많은 조형 예술에 영향을 주었으며 발전의 원동력이 되었다. 그러나 문명과 의복의 발달로 인해 바디 아트의 상징적 의미는 축소되었고 미의 개념도 변화하여 영구적 신체장식의 방법은 하위 문화로 간주되기도 했다. 하지만 포스트 모더니즘의 영향으로 새로운 미의식이 대두되고 일부 계층에 의해 간헐적으로 이용되었던 Body Art가 하이 패션에까지 도입되면서 새로운 의미와 가치를 인정받아 부상하게 되었다. 하이 패션으로의 Body Art의 도입과 스티커 문신(Tattoo Seal)이나 크리스탈 문신, 헤나 같은 일시적 장식 방법은 바디아트에 대한 기존의 부정적 인식을 전환시키는데 공헌을 하였고 대중화를 불러오게 하였을 뿐만 아니라 바디아트의 예술적 영역을 넓히는데 기여하였다. 현대의 바디아트는 헤나, 스티커, 크리스탈, 반영구적 화장 등을 포함한 문신과 메이크업 및 바디 페인팅, 피어싱, 그리고 공연이나 패션쇼에서의 '분장' 등 다양한 형태와 방법으로 나타나고 있으며 패션 디자이너들에게는 창조적 모티브 (Motif)를 제공하여 타투룩(Tattoo look)이라는 새로운 스타일로 나타나 패션의 영역에 이르기까지 광범위한 영역을 차지하고 있다. 또한 미적 의식세계의 표현을 위한 과정으로서만이 아니라 무대예술과 전위예술의 한 분야로서도 인정받고 있다. 현대 패션에서의 바디아트는 오브제의 기용에 있어서 다채롭고 다양한 시도를 하고 있는데 이러한 시도는 새로운 기술의 발전과 더불어 Body Art 의 대중화와 보편화에 더욱 기여 할 것이며 독창적이고 창의적인 조형 예술로 확고히 자리잡아 가도록 할 것이라 여겨진다.|As for the body art which started with the quickening of mankind, diverse methods are being used so as to satisfy the instinctive and social expression desire of mankind up to the modern society that civilization developed extremely since ancient primitive society. Body art may be referred to as the conscious act to make image into form by mobilizing all the methods to be able to express visu-ally on human body, the expression style and the original art that art and human beings harmonize as the method for temporary or permanent body decoration through scar, tattoo, coloring, removal and transformation etc. Body art is the manifestation of instinctive aesthetic expression consciousness as well as the psychological and bodily protection means, and it reflects the culture and society phe-nomenon of the period. To examine the expression feature of body art of each race gets to discover the original indication and pattern of the race. This is because natural environment and daily affairs constituted by suiting to the taste of the race through reflecting the periodical, historical, religious and aesthetic life feeling of their own race, and body art may be referred to as the symbolical act to re-flect such consciousness. The racial thought and artistic soul of these changed body into lively work of art, had influence on many plastic arts, and became the motive power of development. The symbolical meaning of body art were reduced and the concept of beauty changed by the development of civilization and clothing. Thus, the method of permanent body decoration came to be regard- ed as subculture. However, as new aesthetic consciousness came to fore by the influence of post-modemism and the body art which was used intermittently by partial classes were introduced to high fashion, it came to rise by receiving recognition for new meaningand value. The introduction of body art to high fashion and the temporary decoration methods such as sticker tattoo or crystal tattoo and henna contritubed toward converting the existing negative recognition for body art and aroused the popularization, and also itcontributed toward widening the artistic domain of body art. The body art of modem times is appearing with diverse forms and methods such as tattoo or makeup, body-painting, piercing, and make-up at performance or fashion show etc. including henna, stick-er, crystal, and semi-permanent makeup etc., and it is occupying wide domain up to the domain of fashion by appearing as new style to be tattoo look through offering creative motive to fashion designers. Besides, it is receiving recognition as one field of thea-trical art and avant-garde art as well as the course ?or the expre-ssion of aesthetic conscious world. Body art in modern fashion is doing more colorful and diverse trials in the use of object and motiff. Then, it is deemed that this trial will contribute toward the popularization and universalization of body art all the more with the development of new technique and it will enable body art to settle as more original and creative plastic art.
