무대의상에 나타난 섬유예술적 표현기법에 관한 연구

Abstract

무대의상은 일반 의상과 마찬가지로 성별, 신분, 직업에 대한 정보를 전달하지만 무대의상은 무대라는 한정된 상황 아래서 작품의 스타일, 무대장치와 조명 속에서 조화가 이루어져 있다. 연극에 사용되는 의상은 일상생활에서 사용되는 의상과 유사한 정보를 전달하지만 일반 의상과 무대의상은 커다란 차이점이 있다. 무대의상은 무대 위에서 관객이 극의 흐름을 알기 이전에 관객에게 매우 즉각적이고 직접적으로 많은 정보를 제공해줄 뿐만 아니라, 관객에게 예술적인 기능과 미적 표현의 가치로서의 목적으로 만들어졌다. 그러므로 무대의상은 심미적, 연상적 의미에서 개성을 잘 나타내어 무대에서 관객에게 무언의 대사와 같은 상징적인 역할의 시각예술의 한 부분이다. 무대의상은 실용성보다는 표현성에 치중하며, 개성적인 독창성과 극적 상상력을 요구하는 한편 통일성을 지녀야 한다. 또한 보이지 않는 요소를 시각적으로 볼 수 있도록 전환하는 역할을 해야 하며, 연기하는데 불편함이 없고 극의 내용을 효과적으로 표현할 수 있어야 한다. 본 논문은 복식사적인 토대 위에 무대의 종류별로 등장 인물이 꾸미는 이야기를 그 내용으로 구성하는 무대 예술, 즉 연극, 무용, 뮤지컬, 오페라 등과 같은 공연을 위하여 전문적으로 계획되고 마련되는 무대의상에 나타난 섬유 예술의 다양한 기법들을 연구하는데 그 목적이 있다. 무대의상의 시대별로 복식 스타일을 정리하여 그리스 시대부터 20세기 초기까지의 여자 배우와 남자 배우의 그림을 기본으로 하여 복식사적으로 고증해보고자 하며, 그에 따라 20세기 발레 무대의상, 연극 무대의상, 뮤지컬 무대의상, 오페라 무대의상의 사진 자료를 제시하여 다양한 디자인 속에 나타난 공연 제목, 작품의 제작 연도, 무대의상 디자이너, 중심 색상, 섬유 예술의 표현기법, 적용부위, 디자인 모티브, 재료 등을 분석하고 최종적으로 무대의상 각각의 의상들을 종합적인 분석의 결과를 하나의 표로 요약작성하고자 한다. 무대의상은 이제 국내에서 무대예술 문화에 대한 관심과 행사가 증가하고 발전함에 따라 무대 위에서 작가의 의도와 인물에 대한 이해를 돕는 효과적으로 작품성, 예술성을 창조해야 할 것이다.|Stage costume like general clothing delivers information about the weater's gender, social status or profession but it should be harmonized with the style of stage work and stage set and lighting under the restricted conditions of stage. Costume being used in the play delivers information similar to that of general daily life clothing, however, there are great differences between the former and the latter. Stage costume not only provides a lot of information to the audience immediately and directly even before they begin to realize the evolution of the event on the stage but also acts positively on the audience with its artistic function and aesthetic value. Therefore, stage costume reveals the wearer's personality well in the aesthetic and associative aspects as a part of visual art playing a symbolic role in delivering a meaning in silence. For stage costume, expressivity is more emphasized than practicality, and individualized uniqueness and dramatic imagination are demanded together with unity. Also stage costume must represent the invisible mood in the visible form be convenient for acting and reflect the contents of play effectively. The purpose of this study was to investigate the fiber artistic expressions in stage costume particularly designed and made for such theatrical arts as play, opera and musical composed of stories about dramatics personae throughout the history of costume. The fashion styles of stage costume were classified by ages through pictures of actors and actresses from the Greek era to the early 20th century to conduct a historical investigation. Then photos of the ballet / theatrical / musical / opera costume of the 20th century were referred to analyze data on the stage uniform, year of production, stage costume designer, main color, fiber artistic expression, applied part, design motif, material and so on. And finally a diagram was drawn up as a result of analyzing the general characteristics of each stage costume. According to the increase and development of people's concern about the performing art culture and its relevant events, stage costume should help people understand the characters in the play and the intention of the playwright and enhance the originality and artistry of a piece of work effectively.
