눈썹화장이 얼굴이미지에 미치는 영향

Abstract

눈썹은 얼굴의 기준점을 제공하는 중요한 위치에 있기 때문에 눈썹의 모양과 방향에 따라 그 사람이 가지고 있는 본래의 이미지와는 너무도 다른 모습으로 연출될 수 있다. 눈썹화장만큼 그 사람의 성격과 인상을 결정짓는 메이크업도 없다. 색조 화장이 자신만의 컬러로 원하는 이미지를 연출할 수 있게 만든다면, 눈썹화장이야말로 다른 사람에게 자신의 인상을 선명하게 심어줄 수 있는 숨은 공로자인 셈이다. 그러므로 본 연구에서는 인상의 범위를 얼굴로 제한하고 인상학을 근거로 눈썹 화장이 얼굴 이미지에 미치는 영향을 고찰하고, 각자의 얼굴이미지에 어울리는 효과적인 눈썹화장을 하는데 일조 하고자 한다. 본 연구는 효과적인 얼굴이미지를 위한 눈썹화장을 알아보기 위해 먼저 인상학적인 이론이나 얼굴이미지와 눈썹화장에 관한 이론적 고찰을 위해서는 국내·외 서적 및 학위 논문 및 기타 정간물, 인터넷사이트 등을 통해 정리하였다. 또한 10대에서 30대까지의 여성을 대상으로 한 설문조사를 통해 눈썹이 얼굴에 미치는 영향과 눈썹 형태별 이미지를 분석하였는데, 인구통계학적 특성 3문항 즉, 연령, 결혼여부, 직업에 관한 문항과, 화장경향을 묻는 8문항, 눈썹 화장에 따른 인상학적인 느낌정도를 묻는 문항으로 구성하였고, 눈썹화장의 형태분류는 눈썹산의 각도를 기준으로 3가지 형태와 눈썹꼬리의 방향에 따라 3가지로 구분하여 총 6가지 눈썹화장의 형태를 사용하였고, 얼굴형은 타원형을 제외한 5가지 얼굴형태를 사용하였다. 또한, 이미지를 위한 형용사로는 이연희의 선행논문에서 사용되어진 형용사 중 눈썹의 이미지를 나타내는 형용사 16개 단어를 선정하여 조사하였다. 기본적인 얼굴형 5가지에 6가지 눈썹화장의 형태들을 대입시켜 설문조사를 한 결과, 얼굴이미지를 좌우하는 데에는 얼굴형보다는 눈썹화장의 형태가 아주 큰 요인으로 작용하고 있음을 알 수 있었고 얼굴형만으로는 강해 보이는 인상도 눈썹화장의 형태에 따라 부드럽게 변할 수도 있고, 심한 경우에는 바보스러워 보이고 답답한 인상을 줄 수도 있음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 눈썹화장은 눈썹산의 각이 많이 꺾일수록 요염한 이미지가 강하고 눈썹산이 수평일수록 답답한 이미지가 강함을 알 수 있었고, 눈썹꼬리가 올라갈수록 예리하고 차가운 이미지가, 눈썹꼬리가 내려갈수록 촌스럽고 둔한 이미지가 높음을 알 수 있었다. 이렇듯 눈썹화장의 이미지는 눈썹의 각도, 눈썹꼬리의 방향성 등 여러 요인들에 의해 많이 좌우됨을 알 수 있었다. 하지만 대부분의 응답자들은 표준형과 아치형의 눈썹화장을 가장 선호하였는데 이는 옛부터 내려오는 우리 나라 전통화장법이 기초 바탕에 깔려있고 둥글고 선이 약한 동양인의 얼굴에는 부드러운 느낌의 눈썹화장이 어울린다고 생각하는 것 같다. 이상의 결과, 얼굴 이미지를 고려한 가장 효과적인 눈썹화장이란 각자 개개인의 얼굴형을 제대로 파악하고 눈, 코, 입 등의 이미지를 종합적으로 고려하여 그와 균형을 이루는 눈썹화장을 해야하고, 눈썹의 각도, 눈썹꼬리의 방향, 눈썹색상 등 눈썹이미지를 결정하는 요인들을 고려하여 눈썹화장을 하는 것이라 하겠다.|Because the eyebrow lies in an important position of giving a facial basis, one’s different appearance depends on the shape and direction of eyebrows, producing different images. The eyebrow make-up serves to determine one’s characteristics and countenance. While the color make-up allows one to produce desired image of one’s own, the eyebrow make-up contributes to define one’s countenance to others clearly. This study is to find the influence of the eyebrow make-up on one’s facial image based on physiognomy by having countenance within a face, and to encourage effective eyebrow make-up for one’s own image. In order to review the theories of facial images, eyebrow make-ups and physiognomy for good facial image, it examines books, theses, publications and internet sites at home and abroad. Also, it surveys a questionnaire with women in their teens up to in the thirties to analyze the influences of eyebrows on the face and the image by eyebrow shapes. The questionnaire consists of 3 demographic items, such as age, marriage status, and jobs, 8 items regarding make-ups, and an item asking the description of one’s looks by the eyebrow make-up. The shape of the eyebrow make-up is divided into 6 types: 3 by the angle of the eyebrow hill, and 3 by the direction of the eyebrow tails. The facial type is defined to be 5 except an oval. It is selected 16 words among the adjectives used in Lee Yeon-hee’s prior thesis for the eyebrow image. As a result of surveying the basic 5 facial styles with 6 shapes of the eyebrow make-ups, it is found that the facial images depend on the shape of the eyebrow make-up rather than the facial styles. Also, it is shown that the strong countenance varies to be softer by having the eyebrow make-up. In a terrible case, it produces silly and unadaptable impression. The sharper the angle of the eyebrow hills, the more coquettish one’s images, whereas the more plane the angle of the eyebrow hills, the more unadaptable one’s images. In addition, the raised eyebrow tails give more sharp and cool images, while the downward tails produce rustic, dull images. As stated earlier, the image of the eyebrow make-up depends on many variables such as the angle of the eyebrow and the direction of the eyebrow tails. But, standard and arched eyebrow make-ups are most favored by the respondents, because they think the soft style of the eyebrow make-ups is becoming on the orientals whose faces are circular and plain, based on the traditional make-ups. In conclusion, to have the effective eyebrow make-ups by one’s facial images, it has to understand different facial shapes with the comprehensive images of the eye, the nose, and the mouse, to have the balanced eyebrow make-ups, especially in consideration of influential variables such as the angle of the eyebrow, the direction of the eyebrow tails, and its colors.
