Abstract
영문초록 포함|This study is intended to inquire into the reality of laymen education in Korean church and present its improvement measure. Based on the study result, the following conclusion can be made:
Firstly, the proportion of churches in which the laymen education, class is currently organized amounts to 69 percent of the church as a whole, but the proportion of churches without any organized laymen education class accounts for considerable figures. The present situation is that the numerical proportion of believers actually participating in laymen education is low compared to the number of laymen participative in the grand service. In light of this actual situation, it can be seen that laymen education is not activated. Therefore, an attempt will have to be made to probe the systematic laymen education policy by identifying the factors impairing the activation of laymen education.
Secondly, seeing that one of the important factors influential in the success of laymen education is the very teacher factor, the present situation is that the number of teachers engaging in laymen education at present is insufficiently low. It was revealed that the teacher training implementation method was unmethodical as well. Only 19 percent of churches responded that they were carrying out teacher training. It was shown that planned and sustained teacher education or training was not performed in light of the present situation that the minister in charge is taking charge of all of teacher training.
Thirdly, in a greater majority of churches, laymen education was shown to be carried out largely in a lecture form as the teaching method widely used in laymen education. At present, it is urgent to make a study of the diversified and fresh educational method such as the interactive small-group learning method, the discussion-type teaching method, the teaching method using the audio-visual materials rather than the stereotyped lecture-oriented teaching method.
Fourthly, the present situation is that the teaching aids used in laymen education are limited and unsystematized. It was shown that the rate of churches thought to be worthwhile to recommend the teaching aids currently used in laymen education was nothing but 20 percent of total churches in Korea. Judging from the facts as mentioned above, the problem of laymen education can be guessed to be severe. It is necessary to make a study a diversity of teaching aids and programs for laymen education and develop them accordingly.
Fifthly, it was revealed that more than 80 percent of churches all told were allocating less than 10 percent of the entire church budget to the budget for laymen education. In view of the study result that the budgetary proportion of to 20 percent in the entire church budget is reasonable, the large-scale expansion of the educational budget can be said to be called for.
