Abstract

Every man cannot understand about death. And cannot avoid nor overcome it. Death is inevitable. Therefore, man cannot but experience a sense of vain, terror and anxiety before death. However, the degree of anxiety about death differ among men depending on their demographic variables, environmental factors and in particular their views of or attitudes towards death. Nevertheless, anxiety about death does not always affect men's life negatively. Rather, if a man has a sense of self-esteem, he will be more precisely aware of death and thereby, be willing to use the remaining life, being prepared for death, Therefore, it is deemed necessary to design and implement a welfare program which helps the elderly to be relieved of their anxiety about death and live their remaining life in a healthier way, In this regard, this study was based on the assumption that a group therapy of art would serve to help the elderly to be relieved of anxiety about death and improve the sense of their self-esteem. If the social welfare system aims to help the people to satisfy their needs and solve their living problems, it may well include a program which helps people to be prepared for their death. In other words, a genuine social welfare system should cover death as well as life. Unfortunately, however, there is a long way to go towards such a system. Based on the assumption that the degree of elderly's anxiety about death would differ depending on their demographic variables and environmental conditions, a test group consisting of 10 old people was sampled from those elderly subsidized by a welfare center for their meals, while the same number of old people were sampled as control group, in order to conduct a comparative a priori and a posterior test/analysis. "Croup therapy of art" is a combined therapy of psychological and art therapies, which is designed to help the subiects to express in a natural way what they have in their mind through art activities.
