전문대학도서관 디지털참고정보서비스의 실태분석 및 활성화 방안 연구

Abstract

도서관은 1980년대 이후 급변하는 정보기술 및 정보이용환경 변화에 적응하기 위해 많은 노력을 기울여왔다. 대학의 연구와 교육활동 지원을 담당해야하는 대학도서관의 경우 이용자와 사서간의 커뮤니케이션 방식이 온라인 디지털방식으로 바뀌어 감에 따라 기존의 참고정보에선 찾아볼 수 없었던 새로운 서비스 방법들이 도입되어 일반화되기 시작하였다. 하지만 전문대학도서관의 경우 도서관 운영에 따른 제반 여건이 매우 열악한 관계로 이러한 환경변화에 적절하게 대응하지 못하고 있는 실정이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 전문대학도서관의 디지털참고정보서비스 현황을 분석하고 이에 따른 방안을 제시하고자 전문대학도서관의 사서들을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하여 다음과 같은 분석결과를 도출하였다. 첫째, 전문대학도서관은 디지털참고정보서비스 유형 중 전자게시판 서비스를 가장 많이 사용하고 있었으며, 확장하고 싶은 서비스 유형은 모바일 서비스로 나타났다. 둘째, 이용자들의 질의는 희망도서에 관한 질문이 가장 많았으며, 질문 유형은 즉답형이 대부분을 이루고 있었다. 셋째, 이용자 유형은 학생이 주 이용자인 대학도 있었지만, 학생보다 교수가 주 이용자인 대학도서관도 11개나 있었으며, 답변에 걸리는 평균 소요시간은 24시간이었다. 넷째, 디지털참고정보서비스의 운영과 관련한 전문대학도서관 사서들의 의식은 전담직원의 필요성과 사서들의 온라인정보원 활용 능력의 습득 및 이용자교육의 활성화를 주장하였다. 이러한 분석결과를 토대로 전문대학도서관의 디지털참고정보서비스 활성화 방안을 다음과 같이 제안하였다. 첫째, 웹 폼에 의한 전자우편 서비스를 확대하여 이용자의 질문에 답변을 처리하는 방법으로 정해진 시간에 걸쳐 이용자들의 질문에 답변을 처리할 수 있다. 둘째, 모바일 서비스를 이용한 이용자 질문의 접수 및 답변서비스를 개선하여 기존의 디지털참고정보서비스를 모바일 서비스와 연동하면 질문에 대한 답변을 제공하는데 있어 편리하기 때문이다. 셋째, 기존 방식 이외에 최근에 대중에 가장 잘 알려져 있으며 많은 사람들이 사용하고 있는 페이스북, 트위터 등을 통해 사서와 이용자 간의 소통 방식을 확대해야 할 것이다. 넷째, 이용자 교육 및 사서들을 대상으로 변화된 디지털참고정보서비스의 환경에 대한 교육을 확대하여 디지털참고정보서비스가 더욱 활성화되어야 할 것이다. 전문대학도서관의 부족한 예산과 인적자원이 열악한 디지털참고정보서비스의 정당한 이유가 되어서는 안 될 것이다. 전문대학도서관의 디지털참고정보서비스 업무는 관련 정보기술의 적극적인 도입과 이를 이용자 서비스로 연결시키려는 도서관과 사서 및 대학 당국의 관심이 뒷받침되어져야 할 것이다.| Libraries have given many efforts to adapt itself to the rapid change of IT and information using environment since 1980s. Academic libraries which take charge of college's research and education introduce new user services as the communication method has changed into online digital mode between librarian and user. But junior college library doesn't keep up with the new trends because of many operational problems. This study carried out questionnaire survey of major junior college librarian to analyze the problem and current state of digital reference information service. According to the survey result, the most favored service type is electronic bulletin board service and the most frequent user's query type is fact-finding or ready reference answer. The Students use the digital reference information service most frequently and the average response time is one-day. The Librarian thinks that the need and employment of exclusively charged expert librarian for digital reference information service is very urgent. And the librarian assert the need of user education more extensively. This study suggests some activation plan of digital reference information service in junior college library according to the survey result. Firstly, I suggest the extension of e-mail service by web-form which can treats user's query at any convenient time in a day. Secondly, I suggest direct communication channel between user and librarian via SMS or chatting service. This service will expand the user's approachability to their library. Thirdly, The SNS service like twitter and facebook which using smartphone is the most popular communication method to the present library users. So I suggest this method as a main digital reference information service of junior college libraries. Fourthly, the library administrator must give more educational opportunity to their librarian for practice new IT technology and how to use current mobile equipment. The lack of fund and qualified librarian of the junior college doesn't justify the current poor digital reference and information service of their library. The College administration and the Library itself must have active concern about the importance of library's user services and implement effective digital reference information service to their users. And the librarian who works at junior college library must have deep concern about the rapid changing communication methods in a society and must have a capability of reading a user's information need.
