시민교육을 위한 국채보상운동 기록물 활용 방안 연구

Abstract

Traditionally, the key role of archival institutions has been to collect and preserve records, yet the use of archives has been sparse. However, the increased demand for information and the growing interest in records have highlighted the importance of utilizing archived materials. Various studies have been conducted for utilizing archives in education in connection with elementary, middle, and high school curricula, demonstrating their effectiveness in the field. However, the use of archives for civic education still suffers from a lack of interest. This study seeks to propose ways to utilize the Archives of the National Debt Redemption Movement. The research was conducted as follows. First, the background and concept of civic education were examined through literature research, comprehensively outlining its core areas and topics. Second, this study reviewed the meaning of archives in civic education and the purpose, content, and methods of this field by looking into civic education programs run by archives in South Korea and other countries. Third, the National Debt Redemption Movement website and other related literature and research materials were analyzed to understand the background of the movement, the current status of the relevant archives, and the topics and content of civic education on the movement. The current status of and demand for civic education were also investigated through interviews with civic education program managers and instructors. Fourth, this study analyzed the content of the Archives of the National Debt Redemption Movement to select topics and keywords in civic education on the movement. Keywords related to citizenship topics were extracted by dissecting related literature studies, the National Debt Redemption Movement thesaurus, and historical data. These extracted keywords were then categorized under different citizenship topics based on research literature related to the movement. Fifth, citizenship topics and keywords related to the Archives of the National Debt Redemption Movement were selected, and their appropriateness was assessed through three rounds of consultations with managers and instructors involved in education programs on the movement, as well as researchers in the field of library and information science. Based on their feedback, the citizenship topics were reorganized into 3 areas, 6 super-categories, and 16 subcategories. The keywords were also categorized under different citizenship topics. Sixth and last, the findings were visualized, and ways to search and use the archives using the citizenship topics and keywords on the National Debt Redemption Movement were also recommended. The study proposed plans to utilize the Archives of the National Debt Redemption Movement for civic education, but it is limited in its lack of testing of such plans in actual civic education program settings to verify their effectiveness. However, the significance of this study lies in its expansion of the scope of archive utilization to out-of-school civic education and the proposal of specific plans for archive utilization in civic education. The utilization plans posed in this study can be widely used as teaching and learning materials in the field of civic education and in developing archival information services to search and access archives on citizenship topics.| 전통적으로 기록관의 핵심 역할은 기록을 수집하고 보존하는 것이었으며, 기록물 활용은 매우 제한적으로 이루어져왔다. 그러나 최근 이용자들의 정보요구와 기록에 대한 관심이 증가하면서 기록물 활용의 중요성이 주목받고 있다. 초·중·고등학교의 교과과정과 연계하여 기록물을 교육 분야에 활용하기 위한 다양한 연구가 수행되었고 교육적 효과도 입증되었지만, 시민교육을 위한 기록물 활용에 대한 관심은 여전히 부족한 실정이다. 본 연구는 시민교육에서 국채보상운동 기록물을 활용할 수 있는 방안을 제안하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 다음과 같이 연구를 수행하였다. 첫째, 문헌연구를 통해 시민교육의 배경과 개념을 파악하고, 시민교육의 핵심영역과 교육 주제를 종합 정리하였다. 둘째, 국내외 기록관 시민교육 프로그램 사례를 조사하여 시민교육에서 기록물이 가지는 의미와 시민교육의 목적, 내용, 방법을 조사하였다. 셋째, 국채보상운동 웹사이트와 관련 문헌 및 연구 자료를 분석하여 국채보상운동의 배경과 기록물 보유 현황, 국채보상운동 시민교육 주제와 내용을 파악하였다. 그리고 시민교육 프로그램 담당자 및 교수자와 면담을 통해 시민교육의 운영 현황과 요구사항을 조사하였다. 넷째, 국채보상운동 시민교육에 활용할 수 있는 시민성 주제와 키워드를 선정하기 위해 국채보상운동 기록물의 내용분석을 수행하였다. 관련 문헌 연구와 국채보상운동 시소러스 및 전거데이터를 분석하여, 시민성 주제와 연관된 키워드를 추출하였다. 추출한 키워드는 국채보상운동 관련 연구 자료를 참고하여 시민성 주제별로 범주화하였다. 다섯째, 국채보상운동 기록물과 관련된 시민성 주제와 키워드를 선정하여 국채보상운동 시민교육 프로그램 담당자 및 교수자, 문헌정보학 분야 연구자를 대상으로 3차에 걸친 자문을 받아 적절성을 확인하였다. 검토 의견을 반영하여 시민성 주제를 3개 영역, 6개의 상위 범주, 16개의 하위 범주로 재구성하였으며, 시민성 주제별로 국채보상운동 기록물 키워드를 범주화하였다. 이를 시각화하여 국채보상운동의 시민성 주제와 키워드를 통해 기록물을 검색하고 활용할 수 있는 방안을 제안하였다. 본 연구는 시민교육을 위한 국채보상운동 기록물 활용 방안을 제안하였으나, 실제 시민교육 현장에서 이를 적용하고 효용성을 검증하지 못하였다는 한계점이 있다. 그러나 본 연구는 기록물 활용의 범위를 학교 밖 시민교육으로 확장하고, 시민교육을 위한 구체적인 기록물 활용 방안을 제안하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 본 연구에서 제안하는 기록물 활용 방안은 시민교육 현장에서 교수학습 자료로 활용하거나, 시민성 주제로 기록물을 검색하고 활용하는 기록정보서비스 개발에도 폭넓게 활용할 수 있을 것이다.
