Abstract

As the physiological needs of food, clothing, and shelter are satisfied in the modern society and life becomes affluent, people are getting interested in beauty. Also, as if rapid change of digital circumstances reflecting the needs to be looked beautiful, lots of information are provided through various media. Especially hairstyles and clothes are important factors to satisfy the needs to be looked beautiful and express individual personalities and images. Now in 2008, rapidly changing total fashion trend brings retro back from nostalgia for the past. The characteristics are reinterpreted for the present age and influence on every factor in diverse forms. Among those characteristics, the Bohemian image steadily handled in total fashion of 1900s became more detailed and splendid from F/W 2008 season. On the other hand, the Bohemian image has become one of fashion styles, however the study on the Bohemian image is still insufficient compared to its importance. Therefore this study aims to analyze hairstyles of Bohemian images displayed in F/W 08 fashion collections and make possible to direct proper hairstyle to the expression of Bohemian images for total fashion. Furthermore, the meaning of this study can be fundamental data to find the change progress of Bohemian images. The objectives of this study are as follows. First of all, it is to examine the characteristics of Bohemian images, change progress of the hairstyles, and trend in 1990s shown in the fashion trend and grasp the flow of fashion. Second, it is to analyze Bohemian hairstyles shown in fashion collections and contribute to establish systematic beauty theory. Third, it is to classify Bohemian hairstyles into hair images and hair techniques and analyze shapes and characteristics. Lastly, it is to research styles according to styles classified into images and techniques of Bohemian hairstyle and reappear each style in a situation that actual reappearance journals are insufficient among preceding studies on hairstyle according to fashion. This study made its theoretical frame with fashion collection magazines, various data on the internet, books related to fashion and hair, and beauty newspapers based on preceding studies to investigate hair styles shown in Bohemian fashion, and analyzed Bohemian hair style around four F/W 2008 fashion collections that showed more Bohemian images in New York, Milan, Paris and London pret-a-porter collections from 2000 to 2008. Bohemian fashion style shown in four F/W 2008 fashion collections was grasped and change progress of fashion and hairstyle in 1900s were researched. And, Bohemian hairstyles shown in hair trend and Bohemian hairstyles shown in fashion collections were classified and analyzed according to individual images. These were classified according to the techniques of Bohemian hairstyles which were finally chosen by images and the method was described. Based on motives of typical Bohemian image of classified images, hair ornaments were used for reappearing them harmonizing with modern sense perfectly and raise the level of completion of Bohemian total images, and the method was described. As a result of this study, first of all, Bohemian image has been steadily recognized by public in every season, but research on its style is insufficient. Second, unlike hairstyles in 90s, the change progress of hairstyles in 2000s minimized excessive chemical treatment, perm, or hair dyeing. Third, as a result of analyzing hairstyles corresponding Bohemian fashion by images, feminine or folk factors are added and natural and plain images according to Bohemian lifestyle or customs are shown. Fourth, when the analyzed hairstyle was reappeared to actual models, unlike other hairstyling, setting or other hair products were not required to produce unique Bohemian naturalism. The limits of this study are that Bohemian images shown in the four fashion collections cannot be called typical style of Bohemian images, and the shape, feel and style of hairs cannot be checked perfectly through two-dimensional pictures. Also, in case that the Bohemian image was regarded as total fashion, the Bohemian image was completed as perfect total fashion when clothes and accessories are added, rather than a concept of hairstyle. Due to the lack of preceding study materials to analyze Bohemian images, theoretical frame for systematic and clear analysis was insufficient. As the concerns about beauty is increasing, studies of hair techniques on fashion images as the concept of total fashion as well as hairstyle on Bohemian fashion should be continued to establish more sensitive and systematic theory.
