무용 창작 「유빙 流氷」에 대한 작품 분석

Abstract

본 연구는 시인 신철규의 2011년 조선일보 신춘문예 당선작을 소재로 제작된 무용 창작「유빙 流氷」에 대한 작품 분석을 통해 작품의 의미와 구조에 대해 연구하는데 목적을 두었다. 신철규의 시 ‘유빙’은 표면적으로는 연인의 사랑과 이별을 주제로 하고 있으나 이별에 대한 인식 과정과 그 사실을 수용하는 과정이 개성적으로 그려져 있다는 것이 소재로서 이 시가 가진 가치라고 할 수 있다. 누구에게나 사랑의 시작과 이별의 순간이 다가온다는 것은 분명하나 이를 상징적으로 묘사하고 독자로 하여금 상상을 통해 자기화할 수 있도록 유도하는 것이다. 이러한 연구목적을 달성하기 위해 신철규 시인의 ‘유빙’과 본 연구자의 작품 ‘유빙’의 드라마 발레 성향을 분석하고 관련 시평과 견해, 드라마 발레 자료, 인터넷 자료를 참고해 분석 연구하였다. 작품의 구성은 프롤로그와 3개의 장으로 이루어져 있다. 각 장에 따라 바뀌는 상기 과정에 대한 흐름을 보여주는 내용, 움직임, 무대장치, 조명, 음악, 의상, 영상을 중점적으로 분석하였다. 프롤로그에서는 작품의 전반적인 내용과 의도를 추상적으로 표현하기 위해 역광과 영상을 이용하여 관객의 흥미와 관심을 유발하고자 하였으며, 1장에서는 이별을 앞둔 연인이 서로를 포기하지 못한 채 이별에 대한 인식 과정을 망설임과 위태로운 감정들로 표현하고자 손, 시선을 중심으로 상체 위주의 표현을 나타내었다. 2장은 행복한 연인에게 자신들의 모습을 투영하며 과거를 회상하는 장면으로 앞서 1장과는 상반되는 이미지와 감정을 가지고 잔잔하며 밝은 분위기를 자아내고자 하였다. 마지막 3장은 1장의 연인들이 결국은 최초의 입맞춤으로 돌아갈 수 없다는 자명한 이별 사실을 수용하는 과정에서의 심리적 내적 갈등과 극적인 표현을 위해 붉은 조명과 강한 에너지의 동작, 빨라지는 음악, 크고 많은 동선의 이동을 사용하며 영상으로 마무리하였다. 이 시에서는 ‘나’와 ‘당신’이 만나 ‘우리’라는 관계를 형성해 살아가다 다시 원래의 ‘나’와 ‘당신’으로 돌아가나 ‘처음’의 상태로 회귀하는 것은 아니다. 두 연인의 성향을 상반된 개념을 사용해 은유적으로 표현하고자 한 것이다. 시계 방향과 시계 반대방향, 뜨거움과 차가움, 입김과 눈물이라는 양가적 이미지의 대비를 통해 이별의 원인을 암시한 것이다. 무용창작 ⌜유빙 流氷⌟에서도 직접화법이 아닌 이미지화된 표현으로 이러한 상반된 개념을 효과적으로 표현하였다. 종결의 이별도 시각화해 보여주지는 않고, 섬세한 표현을 통해 관객이 스스로 관련 이미지를 생성해 자기화할 수 있도록 유도하였다. 한편, 무대 위에서 가장 난이도 높은 시공간의 변화를 표현하기 위해서는 무대장치의 동반이 필수적이므로 차후 보다 효과적, 효율적으로 움직임과 협응 할 수 있는 무대장치와 조명의 활용방법에 대한 고안과 적용이 요구되었다.|The purpose of this study is to analyze the meaning and structure o f the new dance work, ``Yu Bing (Drift ice),'' which is based on Shin Cheol-gyu's poem of the same title. The poem is on the eternal subject of love and separation, but the real forte of the poem as a theme for choreography lies in the unique way it describes the process of acknowledging the separation and accepting the loss. A moment of love and separation is coming for anyone, and by depicting the experience in a symbolic fashion, the poem makes the reader identify with the poem. The dance piece, ``Yu Bing (Drift ice),'' consists of a prologue and three acts. This study analyzes how the new choreography uses the contents, movements, stage equipment, lighting, music, costumes, and stage videos, in each act, to express the flow and the symbolism of the poem. The prologue tries to engage the audience by hinting at the overall contents and intentions of the work using backlight and stage videos. In Act 1, the two lovers appear. They have grown apart, but are not ready to accept the fact. This hesitation and ambivalent feelings are expressed using mainly the movements of the upper body, the hands and the line of sight of both dancers. In the second act, another happy couple is passing by and the two lovers remember their own happy past. Here, a calm and bright atmosphere is created with images and emotions that are in contrast with the first act. In the last act, the lovers have finally accepted the reality that they cannot go back to their first kiss. Their psychological journey and the internal conflicts along the way are expressed using red light, violent movements, fast music, long and chaotic pathways and an ending video clip. In the original poem, 'I' meet 'you,’ to become ‘we,’ but then go back to separate ‘I’ and ‘you’ again. But ‘you’ and ‘I’ cannot go back to who ‘you’ and ‘I’ used to be in the first place. The poem also metaphorically depicts the two lovers’ opposite personalities using contrasting images such as clockwise and counterclockwise movements, hot and cold, warm breath and tears, hinting at the cause of the breakup. The dance piece, ``Yu Bing (Drift ice),'' also tries to convey these contradictory concepts metaphorically by image-creating movements. For instance, the lovers’ parting in the end is not directly described, but delicate and small movements are used to encourage the audience to form their o wn images. As a final note, in order to stage the changes in time and space of the different acts more effectively, it will be required to devise a method of using the stage device and lighting that can better coordinate with the changes of the scenes and dance movements more effectively in the future.
