Jean Dubuffet 작품을 응용한 아트메이크업 작품제작 연구

Abstract

예술은 고상하고 접근하기 어려운 장르로 여겨져 왔으나 요즈음 현대사회에서는 그 장르의 벽이 허물어지고 실생활의 한 부분으로 자리하고 있다. 회화, 조각, 건축 등의 순수 예술이 패션, 광고, 영화 및 다양한 장르와 접목됨으로써 점차 그 장르의 경계가 모호해지고, 새로운 창작 장르로 여겨지며 유행처럼 활발해지고 있다. 이러한 시대적 흐름에 따라 순수 예술과 디자인 분야의 상호 교류와 협력을 통한 새로운 디자인이 요구되고 있다. 이에 본 연구자는 ‘융합’을 통한 시너지 효과에 대한 장점을 주목하여 순수 예술 작가의 작품을 분석하고 이를 아트메이크업으로 표현함으로써 그 표현 영역을 확대시키며, 회화양식을 아트메이크업에 응용하는 것은 순수 예술의 아름다움으로만 그치는 것이 아니라, 이것을 신체위에 메이크업으로 재창조함으로써 아트메이크업의 예술적 미적 감각과 미적 요소를 폭넓게 활용하여 독창적인 결과를 얻고자 하였다. 따라서 본 연구의 의의는 독자적인 예술로서 인정받고 있는 아트메이크업의 창의적 발상을 위한 새로운 시도로써 관례적인 예술방식에서 벗어나 독특한 자신만의 예술세계를 펼쳤던 장 뒤뷔페(Jean Dubuffet)의 작품을 모티브로 응용하여 아트메이크업 작품제작 디자인을 제시하고자 하였다. 이를 통하여 아트메이크업을 더욱 새롭게 인식시키고, 표현양식을 다양하게 하여 보다 예술적 차원의 창작 표현 방법으로 아트메이크업 분야에 도움이 되고자 하였다. 연구의 범위로는 아트메이크업의 정의 및 특성과 종류를 세 가지로 분류하여 연구하였으며, 재료 및 도구, 표현기법을 순차적으로 서술하였다. 그리고 장 뒤뷔페의 삶과 작가의 미술사적 성향과 작품의 경향 및 작가의 작품 탐구시기를 구별하여 고찰하였다. 위 연구를 토대로 장 뒤뷔페의 예술적 특성과 앵포르멜(informel)및 반문화적(anti-cultural)성향이 강하게 드러난 60년대 이후의 작품 6점을 선정하여, 이를 응용한 작품을 우를루프와 추상회화, 아르 브뤼 성향으로 분류하여 제작하였다. 본 연구의 내용 및 결과를 다음과 같다.

첫째, 장 뒤뷔페는 앵포르멜, 즉 비정형과 반문화적 성향을 가지고 있었다. 일반적이지 않은 미적 기준과 잣대를 지닌 그의 예술적 성향을 기반으로 ‘아르 브뤼(art brut)’라는 마치 아이가 그림을 그린 것 같은 순수한 예술 세계를 보여주었다. 장 뒤뷔페를 기준으로 아르 브뤼의 명칭과 개념이 확고하게 자리 잡게 되었으며, 그의 미술 작품 전반에 큰 영향을 주는 것을 알 수 있었다.

둘째, 장 뒤뷔페 작품에서 빼놓을 수 없는 것이 바로 ‘우를루프 시리즈(L’Hourloupe series)’이다. 선과 형태의 증식되어가는 듯 한 유기적인 형태와 정형화된 색채 사용을 유지하면서 회화작품과 조각, 조형물에 이르기까지 다양한 작품을 제작하였다. 이는 장 뒤뷔페를 대표할 만한 작품들이며 성향임을 알 수 있었다. 또한 우를루프 스타일의 작품은 70년대 이후 추상회화시기에서도 다양한 색채와 함께 다른 듯 연결된 작품이미지로 표현하고 있었다.

셋째, 앵포르멜 및 반문화에 대한 확고한 장 뒤뷔페의 신념과 순수예술에 대한 그의 갈망은 그의 작품세계와 다양한 창작 활동에서도 여실히 볼 수 있었다. 또한 그의 자유롭고 선명한 느낌의 작품을 아트메이크업으로 제작해 본 결과 컬러와 형태에 대한 본 연구자가 가지고 있던 고정관념에서 자유로워지는 것을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 본 연구가 추후 연구자들에게 장 뒤뷔페 뿐만 아니라 순수 예술 회화 작품들을 보다 다양한 방식과 기법을 적용하여 새롭고 신선한 디자인의 아트 메이크업 작품을 창작하는데 조금이나마 도움이 될 수 있기를 기대해 본다.| Art, which used to be considered as a genre that was noble and difficult to approach in the past, has settled down as part of daily life with genre barriers crumbled down in modern society these days. As pure art such as painting, sculpture, and architecture is incorporated into fashion, advertising, film, and other various genres, the boundaries among the genres are increasingly blurry. What comes out of two or more genres incorporated together is regarded as a new creative genre and becomes active like a vogue. Responding to those flows of the times, there rises a need for new design based on mutual exchanges and collaborations between pure art and design. Paying attention to the advantages of synergy effects through "convergence," the investigator set out to analyze works by pure artists, express them in art make-up, and expand the scope of its expression. Applying the painting styles to art make-up would not only exhibit beauty in pure art, but also enhance the artistic and aesthetic sense of art make-up and make broad use of aesthetic elements to create original results by recreating pure art in make-up on the body. As a new attempt for creative conception in art make-up recognized as an independent art, the study aimed to apply works by Jean Dubuffet, who created his own unique artistic world beyond the customary art style, as motives and investigate design for art make-up works, thus renewing the perceptions of art make-up, adding more diversity to its expressive styles, and contributing to the field with creative methods of expression at the artistic level. As for research scope, the investigator examined the definitions and characteristics of art make-up, categorized it into three groups, and reviewed materials, devices, and expressive techniques. Based on the examination results of the life, artistic tendencies, and work exploration periods of Jean Dubuffet and the trends in his works, the investigator selected six of his works since the 1960s that strongly showed his artistic characteristics and informel and anti-cultural tendencies and created works according to the L’Hourloupe, abstract painting, and art brut tendency based on the application of the six works. The research content and findings are summarized as follows:

First, Dubuffet had an informel tendency or non-uniform and anti-cultural tendency. Based on his artistic tendencies containing irregular aesthetic criteria and standards, he created "art brut," his own world of pure art that seemed as if it were painted by a child. He played a crucial role in the solid establishment of its name and concept, which, in turn, had huge influence on his works.

Second, one of the essential works of his portfolio is the very "L’Hourloupe Series." He created a wide variety of works from paintings to sculpture and formative art by maintaining organic forms in which lines and shapes seemed to multiply and standardized color schemes. Those works represent the artist and make his characteristic tendency. In the period of abstract paintings after the 1970s, he created works in the L’Hourloupe style by using diverse colors and work images that seemed to be different and yet connected.

Finally, his firm faith in informel and anti-culture and his yearning for pure art were clearly reflected in his world of works and various creative activities. By expressing his free and vivid feelings inherent in his works in her art make-up works, the investigator became free from the old stereotype with colors and forms. As for research limitations, there is no big pool of previous studies that combined make-up with paintings in spite of the huge volumes of special books, reference literature, and thesis data on make-up. The investigator was faced with difficulty in the process of creating her works as there was no research on Dubuffet's works in make-up as well as art make-up with only a couple of cases in which paintings were applied to art make-up. The study will hopefully help follow-up study create art make-up works of new and fresh design by applying paintings of pure art including the works by Jean Dubuffet in more various styles and techniques.
