20∼50대 여성의 DIY 천연화장품 인지도, 사용실태, 만족도, 안전성 및 부작용 인식 비교

Abstract

오늘날 방대해져 가는 인공 화학 물질은 점차 환경오염을 가속화 시키고 그 독성 물질은 인간의 건강을 위협 하고 있다. 또한 현대 사회의 구조와 각종 사회 문제로 인한 스트레스도 심각한 수준이다. 이러한 상황 속에서 건강과 ‘잘 살아가는 것’에 대한 관심이 높아지고 군중의 심적 동의가 활발해져 ‘웰빙’(Wellbeing)이라는 의식은 현대의 트렌드로 자리 잡히면서 천연, 유기농화장품이 등장하였다. 그러나 천연 화장품이라고 광고하며 판매되는 제품들을 살펴보면 사실과 다르게 유해논란을 일으키고 있는 성분을 그대로 포함하고 있다. 이에 친환경원료나 천연추출물에 대한 관심이 더욱 높아지면서 소비자들은 자신의 피부에 맞는 화장품 원료를 직접 선택, 제조하여 사용하는 이른바 DIY(Do It Yourself) 천연화장품에 대한 관심과 수요가 증가하고 있다.

본 연구는 인구통계학적 특성에 따른 DIY 천연화장품 인지도, 사용실태, 만족도, 안전성 및 부작용 인식 차이를 알아보고자 서울과 경기에 거주하는 20∼50대 여성을 대상으로 조사하였다. 설문지 내용의 보완을 위해 2011년 7월 4일부터 7월 17일까지 30부를 사전 조사하였으며 내용 수정 후 2011년 8월 1일 부터 8월 31일까지 31일간 500부의 본 설문 조사를 하였고 수거된 설문지 중 응답이 불성실한 자료를 제외한 451부를 통계 자료로 활용하였다.

본 연구를 통한 조사 결과 첫째, DIY 천연화장품에 대한 전반적인 인지도는 낮았으며 30-40대일수록, 고학력일수록, 전문직일수록, 월평균 소득이 높을수록 비교적 인지도가 높게 나타났다.

둘째, DIY 천연화장품 사용실태를 살펴보면 대부분 사용경험이 있었고 20대와 미혼인 경우 피부트러블 개선을 위해 주로 교육기관을 이용해 배우며, 30-40대 및 전문직인 경우 직접 만들어 사용한다는 것에 호기심이 생겨 지인을 통해서 사용했으며, 50대는 직접 만들어 사용하기 보다는 주로 선물 받아서 사용했다.

셋째, DIY 천연화장품에 대한 전반적인 만족도는 보통수준 이었다. 20-30대, 대학원이상, 전문직일수록 비교적 만족도가 높게 나타났다.

넷째, DIY 천연화장품 안전성 및 부작용 인식 차이를 살펴보면 전반적인 안전성 인식은 비교적 낮았다. 20-30대, 고학력일수록, 미혼, 전문직일수록 비교적 안전하다고 인식 했다. 이는 만족도에 비례한 결과로 보여 진다. 인구학적 변인에 따른 부작용 인식 차이는 없었다. 또한 지속적인 사용의향이 없는 이유로 제품의 품질을 믿을 수 없어서가 가장 높게 나타났다.

아직까지 DIY 천연화장품은 매니아층 시장에서만 잘 알려져 있는 한계점을 안고 있으며 연령대별 사용하게 된 동기는 다소 차이는 있었지만 대부분 지인의 경험담 및 추천을 통해서 구전되어 확산되고 있음을 알 수 있다. 이에 화장품 사용을 위해 꼭 필요한 전문적인 지식이 제대로 전달되지 않는 결과 만족도 및 안전성 인식이 비교적 낮았다. 이에 실효성 있는 홍보 및 세대별 맞춤식 전문적인 교육을 통해 인지도 및 올바른 사용방법을 알리고 제품의 신뢰도를 높이기 위해서는 이를 뒷받침할 만한 화장품 원료 관리 및 인증제도가 마련되어야 할 것이다. 또한 천연방부제 및 기능성 천연원료 개발을 통해 좀 더 제품의 효능을 극대화 시키고 단점이 보완된다면 DIY 천연화장품 시장 전망은 밝을 것이다. 또한 향장업계에서도 소비자의 니즈에 따라 맞춤판매 및 DIY 천연화장품에 대한 전문적인 교육, 체험 마케팅을 통해 경기 불황을 극복할 수 있을 것이다.| Today massive man-made chemicals are gradually making more environmental pollution and the toxic substances are threatening human health. Stress caused by structure of modern society and various social problems is also serious. In this situation, the growing interest in health and ‘‘wellbeing’’ and consciousness of ‘‘wellbeing’’ by lively emotional concent of the crowd made natural and organic cosmetics show up as the modern trend. However, products being advertised and sold as natural cosmetics contains false harmful components that cause controversy. The rising concern for environment-friendly materials or natural extracts has led consumers to grow their concern and demand for so-called ‘DIY(Do It Yourself) natural cosmetics’ using through direct selection and manufacture of cosmetics ingredients for their skin.

In this study, a survey was carried out on women in their 20s∼50s living in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do to figure out the difference in the perception of DIY natural cosmetics recognition, status, satisfaction, safety and side effect according to demographic characteristics. To supplement the contents of questionnaires, a preliminary survey of 30 questionnaires was carried out from July 4 to July 17, 2011. After correcting the contents, this survey of 500 questionnaires was also carried out for 31 days from Aug. 1 to Aug. 31, 2011. Questionnaires of 451 copies except in data of unfaithful response of collected questionnaires were used as statistical data.

The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, the DIY natural cosmetics recognition between women in their 20s∼50s showed that its recognition is generally low. For women in their 30s-40s, well-educated women, professional women and high average monthly income women, its recognition was relative low.

Second, the status of DIY natural cosmetics between women in their 20s∼50s showed that many of them have experience using DIY natural cosmetics. Women in their 20s and unmarried women mainly learned about it through educational institutions to improve their skin troubles. Women in their 30s-40s and professional women were curious about making and using it by themselves, and used it through acquaintance. Women in their 50s used it as present, instead of making and using it by themselves.

Third, the general satisfaction of DIY natural cosmetics between women in their 20s∼50s showed that they are generally satisfied with it. For women in their 20s-30s, women more than graduate school and professional women, satisfaction of it was relatively high.

Fourth, the difference in the perception of DIY natural cosmetics safety and side effect between women in their 20s∼50s showed that the general perception of its safety is relatively low. Women in their 20s-30s, well-educated women, unmarried women and professional women perceived it as safe, resulting from proportion to its satisfaction. There was no difference in the perception of side effect according to demographic variables. Their doubt about the quality of its product was the highest by reason of no continuous use intention.

So far, there was a limit to DIY natural cosmetics that is well-known to the only mania market. There was a little difference in the motive for the use of it by age bracket, but it was largely handed down and widespread through experiences and recommendation of acquaintances. No proper convey of expertise required for the use of cosmetics resulted in a relative low perception of satisfaction and safety. To inform the recognition and right use through effective public relations and generational customized-professional education and improve the reliability of products, the cosmetics ingredients management and certification system to support this will have to be prepared. If the effectiveness of products is more maximized and their weakness is more supplemented through the development of natural preservatives and functional natural ingredients, prospects for the DIY natural cosmetics market is bright. The cosmetics industry may also overcome the economic downturn through professional education, experiential marketing for customized sales and DIY natural cosmetics according to consumer needs.
