- Abstract
- This study aims to analyze the effect of reserve forces training duration on participation rates and to empirically examine whether the compensation system moderates the relationship between training duration and participation. As South Korea faces a decline in military manpower and an increasingly complex security environment, the importance of reserve forces continues to grow. However, the current reserve forces system faces challenges related to participation, training effectiveness, and compensation, highlighting the need for institutional improvements.
To address these issues, this study established training duration as the independent variable, participation rate as the dependent variable, and the compensation system as the moderating variable. Participation was conceptualized not only as actual attendance but also as participation intention and participation attitude. Survey data were collected from reserve force personnel, and empirical analyses were conducted using the SPSS statistical program. Reliability analysis, validity analysis, correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis, and moderating effect analysis were performed to examine the relationships among the variables.
The results are summarized as follows. First, training duration was found to have a significant negative effect on participation. This finding suggests that longer training periods increase the time and economic burdens perceived by reservists, thereby reducing their willingness to participate. Second, the compensation system showed a significant positive effect on participation. This indicates that reservists are more likely to participate when they perceive compensation as fair and adequate, reflecting the importance of both economic incentives and institutional recognition. Third, the moderating effect of the compensation system on the relationship between training duration and participation was not statistically significant. Although compensation positively influenced participation, it was not sufficient to alleviate the burdens associated with increased training duration.
These findings suggest that reserve force participation behavior can be explained from a cost-benefit perspective. Training duration functions as a cost factor that discourages participation, whereas the compensation system functions as a benefit factor that encourages participation. The results also support the explanatory power of Rational Choice Theory, which argues that individuals make decisions by weighing expected costs and benefits.
This study is academically meaningful in that it empirically verifies the effects of training duration and compensation within a single analytical framework and expands the concept of participation to include behavioral intentions and attitudes. From a policy perspective, the findings indicate that improving reserve force participation requires not only the rational adjustment of training duration but also the development of realistic and comprehensive compensation systems.
Ultimately, reserve force policies should adopt an integrated approach that balances training requirements and compensation incentives in order to enhance participation and maintain combat readiness effectively.|본 연구는 예비군 훈련시간이 참여율에 미치는 영향을 분석하고, 보상체계가 이들 간 관계에서 조절 효과를 가지는지를 실증적으로 검증하는 것을 목적으로 수행되었다.
