- Abstract
이를 통해 몽골 복합문화공간의 계획 및 운영을 위한 학술적·실무적 시사점을 제시하였다.|This study aims to investigate the relationships among experiential factors, perceived value, place attachment, and satisfaction in multicultural spaces for the Mongolian MZ generation based on the Stimulus–Organism–Response (S-O-R) theory, and to propose planning and operational strategies for multicultural spaces in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. As the Mongolian MZ generation has become increasingly familiar with global lifestyles and overseas cultural spaces, the demand for multicultural spaces that provide experiences beyond simple consumption has grown rapidly. However, comprehensive research examining the overall spatial experience of these users remains limited. Therefore, this study conceptualized experiential factors as the Stimulus (S), perceived value and place attachment as the Organism (O), and satisfaction as the Response (R), thereby systematically analyzing the process of users' spatial experiences.
To achieve the research objectives, a literature review was conducted, followed by a questionnaire survey targeting Mongolian MZ individuals who had visited major multicultural spaces in Ulaanbaatar. Based on 326 valid responses, quantitative analyses, including regression analysis, were performed. In addition, to complement the limitations of the quantitative approach, in-depth interviews were conducted with Mongolian MZ participants who had experienced multicultural spaces in both Mongolia and South Korea, allowing for a deeper understanding of users' spatial needs and expectations.
The empirical results revealed that entertainment, aesthetic, and escapist experiences significantly and positively influenced users' functional and emotional perceived values as well as place attachment, whereas educational experiences did not show statistically significant effects. Furthermore, perceived value and place attachment were found to have significant positive effects on overall satisfaction, providing empirical support for the psychological mechanism proposed by the S-O-R framework. These findings indicate that the Mongolian MZ generation places greater importance on enjoyment, visual attractiveness, and immersive experiences that provide an escape from everyday life than on educational aspects of multicultural spaces.
Based on these findings, this study proposes five planning and operational strategies for future multicultural spaces in Mongolia. First, immersive experiential environments should be developed by emphasizing aesthetic and escapist experiences that enhance users' sensory and emotional engagement. Second, participatory content centered on entertainment should be continuously provided to encourage active user involvement. Third, spatial and content environments that support self-expression and experience sharing should be established. Fourth, differentiated cultural experiences should be created by reinterpreting Mongolian local culture and identity in contemporary ways. Finally, community-oriented and lifestyle-supportive spaces that facilitate social interaction and accommodate diverse lifestyles should be promoted. These findings provide both academic and practical implications for the planning and operation of multicultural spaces in Mongolia.
