현대 메이크업에 나타난 하위문화 스타일 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 1990년대에 나타난 하위문화 스타일 메이크업과 과거 1960∼1980년대에 나타난 하위문화 스타일 메이크업을 비교 분석하고, 패션 컬렉션에서 표현된 양식을 고찰하는데 목적이 있다. 1990년대에 나타난 하위문화 스타일 메이크업은 세기말적 갈등, 혼돈과 함께 과거를 동경하고 회고하는 과거 지향적인 경향을 나타내고 있다. 이와 함께 새로운 미래에 대한 기대감으로 미래 지향적 경향이 동시에 나타나 공존하는 특이한 현상을 보이고 있다. 여러 가지 하위문화 스타일 중에서 1960∼1980년대에 나타난 모즈(Mods), 히피(Hippie), 록커(Rocker), 스킨헤드(Skin Head), 글램(Glam), 펑크(Punk), 스케이터(Skater), 뉴로맨틱스(New romantics), 퍼브(Perv), 캐주얼(Casual), 레이버(Raver)스타일이 1990년대에는 그런지(Grunge)와 네오히피(Neo-Hippie), 네오 펑크(Neo-Punk), 클럽스타일(Club Style), 드래그(Drag), 밀리터리(Military), 스포츠 캐주얼 스타일(Sports Casual style)로 재해석되었다. 하위문화에 나타난 메이크업 특성은 과장된 메이크업, 앤드로지너스 메이크업, 장식적인 메이크업, 미래지향적인 메이크업으로 나누어 볼 수 있다. 과장된 이미지는 얼굴의 한 부분을 기괴할 정도로 강조한 메이크업을 말하는 것이다. 앤드로지너스 메이크업은 남성이 여성적으로 화려한 메이크업을 하고, 여성이 남성적으로 강인한 이미지를 표현하는 메이크업을 말한다. 장식적인 메이크업에서는 얼굴과 몸에 직접 그림을 그리는 바디 페인팅과 문신을 포함해서 말한다. 그리고 미래지향적인 메이크업은 글리터와 펄을 사용하여 기계적인 느낌을 표현했고, 여성스러운 이미지와 암울한 미래에 대한 이미지를 나타내고있다. 이상의 메이크업에서 살펴보면 1960∼80년대 스타일이 1990년대 메이크업 스타일과 비교해 볼 때 거의 비슷한 특성을 가지고 있음을 알 수 있다. 단지 미래적인 이미지가 더해졌다 1990년대에는 그동안에 유행했던 모든 스타일들이 다시 재등장하는 것을 볼 수 있다. 그러나 과거와 똑같은 스타일이 아니라 시대적 영향에 의해 색다르게 재해석되고 있다. 하위문화 스타일 메이크업의 변화 요인은 포스트모더니즘의 영향으로 다음과 같은 특징을 보여주고 있다. 첫째, 여러 가지 요소를 혼합한 절충주의 경향을 볼 수 있다. 둘째, 인위적인 것을 거부하는 자연주의적인 경향을 들 수 있다. 셋째, 국제화 시대에 따른 에스닉적인 경향을 띄고 있다. 넷째, 에로틱하고 여성미를 강조하는 로맨틱한 모습을 볼 수 있다. 다섯째, 정상적인 형식을 파괴하는 해체주의 성향을 나타내고 있다. 여섯째, 미래적인 이미지를 강조하는 사이버 메이크업을 볼 수 있다. 1990년대의 메이크업의 특징은 다양한 모습들이 혼합된 퓨전(fusion)의 형태를 보이고 있다. 세기말적 혼돈과 미래의 기대감이 혼합된 상황 속에서 더욱 다양하게 표현되고 있는 것을 알 수 있다. 그리하여 하위문화 스타일 메이크업은 현대 메이크업에 새로운 시도와 방향을 모색하게 하는 창조적 영감의 한 단면으로 작용하고 있음을 알 수 있다.|Since the beginning of 1990s, Street Fashion is rising powerfully. Subculture style which appeared in gear with the trend tendency of restoration style out of the street fashion of youths is offering diverse motifs to modern makeup also. Subculture is the concept to implicate the meaning to be the phenomenon seceded from the ruling culture or the culture of central class of society. The aim of this thesis is to try to compare as to how different the make up of subculture style which appeared in past 1960s and 1970s and to study how it was reflected in collection. Out of various subculture styles, the makeup of styles of Mods, Hippie, Glam and Punk which appeared in 1960s and 1970s may be regarded as the feature to appear most frequently in 1990s. The makeup of Mods style emphasized eyes by attaching eyelash thickly below and above eyes and drawing eyeliner thickly and produced lips sensuously by applying dim pink-pearl lipstick. As for the makeup of Hippie style, body painting to draw drawings or to color on body was in vogue as the symbolic expression of spiritual culture, and decorative makeup to express fantastic world appeared. As for glam style, men applied thick makeup and wore gorgeous dress and its ornaments and showed long-hair style. As for the makeup of punk style, they applied around eyes thickly, emphasized features with the black lip expression, and wore the dress and its ornaments to give displeasure with disgusting tattoo. Punk made hair seem to be horned by fixing their hair stiffly after dyeing their hair pink, orange and green and making it sharp, or they made Mohican hair-style. This style didn't follow the past as it was since the beginning of 1990s, but they appeared by being interpreted newly. First, as for new mods style, exaggerated makeup became very feminine and romantic. In hair style also, naturally wavy style could be seen much. But, cyber makbeup to show gloomy feeling or enable us to fee coming future appeared due to decadent influence. Second, neo-hippie style changed from the past style of old and shabby resistant image to soft and high-class feeling. Makeup became natural and feminine as ecology phenomenon. And, aesthetic makeup appeared by the influence of globalization and pluralism. Third, the makeup of new glam style expressed futuristic sensitivity by using decorative and futuristic glittering and glossy materials much. The make of artificial and mechanical feeling appeared as base, and feminine side and decadent element are appearing with mixture on it. Fourth, the makeup of neo-punk style is showing as refined fantasy by creating new beauty and converting charmingly even challenging and destructive atmosphere unlike past punk style. To examine from above makeup, it can be seen that the makeup of subculture style which appeared in 1990s is being expressed more diversely in the situation that decadent chaos and future expectation mixed. And, it can be seen that the makeup of subculture style is acting as the creative inspiration to enable modern makeup to grope for new trial and direction.
