解放이후 西洋의 헤어스타일이 韓國女性의 헤어스타일에 미친 영향에 관한 硏究
- Abstract
- The following is the chronological analysis of the influence the western hairstyle has had on the Korean women from 1945 to early 2000:
Around the year of 1945, the outbreak of World War Ⅱ changed womens hairstyle in such a way as for them to wear a curling long hair. As a result, two hairstyles, the roll-back pompadour and the new look style, began to pick up among women. Therefore, some women wore long hair hanging down to the back and covering the shoulders, while others combed their hair up over the foreheads.
Influenced by this vogue, Korean women began to wear the perm hairstyle after Koreas independence in 1945, which had been prohibited during the Japanese occupation.
The pony tail style and the poodle cut style in the west affected Korean women and led them to favor the wave style and the up-style in the 1950s.
The 1960s watched wigs getting in vogue in the western countries. In the meanwhile, Vidal Sassoon, one of the most renowned hair designers in the world, wielded a great influence over the globe.
Likewise, Korean women in those days liked to wear the twist hair or wigs.
What should be noticed of the 70s western hairstyles is the works of Vidal Sassoon. Vidal Sassoons team created a hairstyle for each lifestyle through challenging but perfect techniques, leaving a benchmark in the history of the hair styling. Consequently, Korea indulged itself into an era of the haircut when in great vogue were the mushroom style looking like a mushroom, and the fire fly style looking like wings of a butterfly.
In the 1980s, introduction of various styling designs fascinated the mainstream of the west with the retro look, whose influence on Korea made it no longer unusual to get permanent waves.
The 1990s grunge look and the oriental look of the west induced Korean women to dye their hair in strong colors and to favor uneven hairstyle. In addition, the cycle of changing hairstyle had been remarkably shortened.
The west got charmed with the unisex style in early 2000, allowing many men and women to share the same styles. Following the trend, Korea introduced 6 hairstyles in the New Millennium Hair Collection.
As discussed above, throughout the history, the hairstyles in Korea have been profoundly influenced by the western culture, especially the western makeup styles and hairstyles. 'Therefore, exploration of the western hair- and makeup-styling conveys a great significance in conducting researches on the Korean hairstyles.
In the future, it is believed that the cycle of changes in hair-styling will get remarkable shortened with the advance in the computer technology, which enables the world to have a much faster access to other cultures over the Internet.
