한국 오페라 공연에 나타난 성격분장에 관한 연구

Abstract

무대공연에서의 분장은 종합예술기능의 한 요소로서 배우의 성격을 정확하게 극본이 요구하는 인물화시켜 관객들로 하여금 필요한 성격적 사실을 구체적으로 이해시키는 의사전달수단이다. 또한 분장은 공연을 완성하는데 있어 조명, 의상, 무대장치 등과 함께 가장 중요한 요소중에 하나이다. 현재 우리 나라는 양적, 질적인 문화발전으로 무대공연의 내용 뿐만아니라 조명, 의상, 무대장식 등의 표현매체도 예전과는 달리 다양해졌다. 분장사를 필요로 하는 분야인 뷰티산업, 패션산업, 광고산업, 영화산업 등 기타문화예술계의 급성장으로 분장사의 수요가 절실한 현실이다. 그러나 등장인물의 체계적인 역할분석 및 분장에 대한 이론적 체계의 미확립, 작품이 요구하는 극중인물창조와 분장의 중요성에 대한 인식부족 등으로 우리 나라 무대분장은 전근대적인 발전단계를 벗어나지 못하고 있는 실정이다. 종합적인 식견을 겸비한 전문분장사가 양성되기 위해서는 실기중심적인 교육과 함께 인상학, 골상학, 색채학, 조명학 등의 체계적인 이론적 교육이 실행해야 한다. 본 논문에서는 분장을 효과적으로 창출해내기 위해서는 분장사가 추상적 감각에만 의존하는 방법보다는 충분한 자료연구와 계획을 통해 등장 인물을 창조해야하는 것을 강조하였다. 즉 분장사는 작품에 대한 면밀한 분석 및 대본을 충분히 검토하여 배우들의 성격을 파악한 후 분장작업 계획서를 작성하고 이를 기초로 한 실제작업을 통해야만 연출의도에 적합한 인물상을 창조할 수 있다는 것을 인식하고자 하였다. 또한 극중인물의 성격을 정확하게 파악하기 위해 얼굴의 형상, 구조, 형태 등에 따라 인물의 성격이나 이미지 분석이 가능한 인상학적 관점에서 접근하였다. 이러한 인상학적 관점에 의한 이미지를 바탕으로 오페라 "피가로의 결혼" 에 등장하는 주요캐스트들 중심으로 성격분장을 고찰해보고 실제인물에 실행해보았다. 본 연구에서는 우리 나라 무대분장분야를 좀 더 논리적이고 체계적으로 발전시키기 위한 것으로 인상학적 관점에 의해 체계적인 작업을 수행해봄으로써 무대분장의 구체적인 접근 방법을 제시하고, 우리 나라 분장분야의 발전을 모색하기 위한 것에 그 목적이 있다. 본 연구를 바탕으로 앞으로 보다 더 다양하고 구체적인 후속연구들에 의해 학문적차원에서 지속적인 연구가 요구된다고 본다.|In stage performances, make-up is an element of the composite art. It is a means of communication designed to precisely figure actor's or actress' characteristics and thereby, help the audience understand the performance specifically. In addition, make-up is one of the most important elements in perfecting the performances together with lighting, costume and stage setting. Currently in Korea, as the stage performances have developed in both terms of quantity and quality, such elements as lighting, costume, stage setting and other media of expressions have been more diversified. Make-up is much required by beauty industry, fashion industry, advertising industry, film industry and other cultural or art industries. However, make-up has yet to be based on a systematic analysis of characters' roles and theories, while people are less aware of the roles played by make-up to create desired characters. As a result, our stage make-up may be still at its infant stage. In order to bring up professional make-up artists armed with a comprehensive knowledge, it is necessary to educate would-be make-up artists on physiognomy, phrenology and lighting science in a systematic way. With such basic conceptions in mind, this study was aimed at finding the ways to create desirable make-up effects. Make-up artists should create characters through sufficient research and plan rather than rely on their senses. Namely, make-up artists are requested to carefully analyze the works and scripts to understand characters and thereupon, design a make-up plan and create the characters fitting the requirements of production. In order to grasp the characters correctly, it is necessary to analyze characters or their images in physiognomical and phrenological terms. In View of such a physiognomy, the main characters appearing in "Le Nozze di Figaro" were analyzed in terms of characteristic make-up and then, a make-up was actually practiced on characters, The purpose of this study was to develop our stage make-up in a more logical and systematic way and therefore, apply a more systematic make-up practice in view of physiognomy, and thereby, explore the ways to develop our make-up art. Lastly, it is hoped that this study will be followed up by future studies approaching make-up in more diversified and specific ways.
