Nowadays the meaning of fashion has enlarged its territory to include : costumes, hair styles, accessaries, bags, shoes and ornaments, which can help to express the beauty of body. The main two big components of total fashion style go to costumes and hair styles, which has been developed in harmony from ancient time.
Recent-Times-Fashion has been started since French Revolution(l789), but for the Roots of its original one has to go back to its past. 17th century Baroque period was at European culture's climax. An extremely splendid costumes and wigs were on vogue in the aristocracy.
In Rococo period during 18th century, a very exceptional taste of costumes and hair style appeared which consisted of very refined, light and detailed lines, colors and patterns. Marie Antoinette and Madam Pompadour were representing Baroque fashion with costume and hair style.
Recent-Times-Society between French Revolution and the End of the 19th Century is classified into Neo-classicism, Romanticism(revived Bourbon dynasty), Neo-Rococoism and the End of the Century. During this times simplification of fashion started, and on account of social statue, the Silhouette of Fashion changed to those of before Revolution or to futuristic ones in modernized forms, though. Ladies' hats or bonnets were worn instead of splendorous fontanges and wigs. The change of symbolization of crown made ladies hats appear with decorative and usual fashion factors.
After Charles Frederic Worth's first Haute Couture in 1858, many a couturier showed up organizing Syndicate of Haute Couture. It has developed for more than a century aiming the bourgeoisie and middle class since Rococo period. The huge Fashion Capital of Modern Times and increased needs for high fashion of middle class turned over Haute Couture into Pre^t-a-Porter.
The social and political factors had great influence on the changes of hair style and fashion Silhouette. The first and second world war accelerated the Simplicity of fashion silhouette and excluded the decorativeness and pressure to human body which were unuseful. Hair style originated by hair cut has been developed. From time to time hair setting or permanent wave was added to the style.
The After-war generation became the leaders in 1960s' culture and made street style. This style was adopted to Haute Couture and Pre^t-a-Porter fashion and caused the changes of design, colors and material used since 1970s' fashion. Hair style also has been developed fur a good combination with the silhouette, social change, materials and colors used. In order to achieve the form, various technique of hair cut has been invented by many a famous stylist group such as Vidal Sassoon and Toni & Guy, etc.

Edward Overhaus Jr. , vice president of Carnegie America analyzed 100 years of the 20th century fashion by each decade silhouette using simple diagram and found each silhouette is repeated by 4 decades term. Such silhouette diagrams are repeated rectangle from 1900s, reverse triangle over rectangle, a long isosceles triangle, reverse triangle on a isosceles triangle, and exceptionally a reversed isosceles triangle in 1980s.
In many fashion books about 20th fashion containing pictures of each decades the Silhouette of Overhaus were proved Hair style was performing its role as a part of the silhouette to encourage, or minimized in order not to disturb the silhouette. In various data of Hairstylists like classic and contemporary cut book, videotapes, CD-Rom, Journal a proper approach to each decade's representative hair cut is found.
In this study, the fact that fashion trend was repeated by 4 decades is concluded. This repeated silhouette of fashion trend is becoming thinner and longer excluding unuseful fashion elements to human body structure. Hair Cut has followed the fact above. Possible prospects for the future fashion could be made according to this study.
