훈민정음 해례의 창제원리를 바탕으로 한 시각표현 실험

Abstract

인류의 가장 중요한 커뮤니케이션 수단의 하나로 언어가 쓰인다. 전 세계에서는 많은 언어가 쓰이고 있고, 그 중 인구 비례 가장 많이 쓰이는 언어로는 영어, 한자어 등이 쓰이고 있으나, 현 시점에서 한글이 세계 여러 언어 석학들에 의해 새로이 자질문자로서의 우수함을 증명 받고 높이 평가되며 극찬받기 시작했다. 세계는 하루가 다르게 빠르게 변화되고 있고, 앞으로는 이러한 생활 속에서 정보의 처리 속도가 국가 경쟁력을 좌우하게 될 것이라고 전망하고 있다. 이런 변화 속에서 정보 전달의 수단인 언어는 매우 중요하다 할 수 있으며, 그런 정보력의 언어 중 한글은 그 우수함을 세계에 자랑할 만하다. <훈민정음 해례>는 한글을 창제하게 된 제자원리를 풀이해 놓은 원문으로써 한글이 세상 만물의 이치인 음양오행과 그 이치가 맞음을 풀이하고 있다. 현재까지 인류에서 창제되어진 문자는 한글이 유일하며, 그런 문자 창제에 대해 풀이해 놓은 책이 역사적 유물로 전해지는 것 또한 유일하다고 할 수 있다. <훈민정음>은 세종대왕이 만든 디자인적 종합 결과물이라 할 수 있다. 디자인이란 인간의 삶을 영위하는데 있어 매우 밀접한 관계를 갖는다. 또한 디자인을 함에 있어 인간과 자연의 조화를 이루어 표현할 수 있는 디자인은 늘 항상 시대를 불문하고 그 가치를 인정받아왔다. 그에 <훈민정음>의 문자 디자인은 모든 자연의 이치와 인간의 평등 이념을 기본으로 하여 디자인된 세계 최고의 문자라 할 수 있으며, 중요한 디자인적 가치를 갖으며, 현재 외국의 여러 석학들에게 한글의 우수성을 인정받는 것으로 만족 할 것이 아니라, 한글의 다양한 실험들을 통해 좀 더 한글에 대한 관심이 자국민 스스로에게 일어날 수 있는 여러 가지 제안이 필요한 시점이다. 이러한 한글에 대해 자국 언어임에도 단편적으로만 알고 있는 <훈민정음>의 그 기초가 되는 조형적 제자원리를 자세히 살펴보고 원문의 내용 중 여러 제자원리들을 활용하여 한글에 대한 다양한 실험방법을 시도해 보고자 하였다. 본 작품 실험에서는 이러한 한글의 우수함에 관심을 갖게 하기 위한 실험 방안으로 한글의 글꼴이나, 글자체 등의 시각적인 연구를 지양하고 좀 더 흥미를 유발 할 수 있는 실험방향의 대안으로 <훈민정음 해례>에서 밝힌 한글 창제 원리인 소리의 근본 오행과 소리의 맑고 흐림, 소리의 여리고 셈, 소리의 첫·가운데·끝소리의 조화와 형태, 그리고 소리의 느리고 빠름에 대한 한글 풀이를 살펴보고 이런 여러 원리들을 활용하여 컬러, 형태, 질감의 디자인적 기본 요소들로 한글에 대한 새로운 시각의 접근으로써 실험 작품을 시도해 보고자 하였다. 자랑스러운 우리 말글인 한글에 대한 자긍심이 우리 스스로 높아질 때 한글의 말글살이가 윤택해지며 세계에서 당당히 설 수 있는 주체로써의 우리 언어인 한글이 그 우수함을 더 널리 알릴 수 있을 것 이다. 현재 보다 많은 분야에서의 한글에 대한 다양한 개발이 요구 될 때이나, 시각적 자극에 민감한 현 시대에는 더욱 다양한 디자인 문화로써의 한글을 활용한 시각표현 실험이 활성화 되어야 할 것이다.|Language is one of the most important communication means in our human societies. As we know, there are lots of languages all over the world, and English and Chinese may be used most frequently and extensively according to the proportion of population. But as a new kind of quality script, hangul (Korean script), has begun to be accepted and be given high praises by many linguistic scholars of the world. Obviously, our world is changing rapidly everyday, so the speed or efficiency of information arrangement will play an vital role on the strength of the country competitiveness. Under such circumstances, language, as the key means of information delivery, is so important that should not be ignored. While, among the various kinds of languages, the superiority of hangul, the scripts of Korean people, makes the natives proud in the world. Hunmin jeong-eum is the manuscript revealing the Hangul creation principles. This document explains the design of the consonant letters according to articulatory phonetics and the vowel letters according to the principles of yin and yang and vowel harmony. If it can be assumed that hangul is the unique script created by the human, Hunmin jeong-eum hence could be viewed as the unique document which can explain creation process of such scripts. Hunmin Jeong-eum was designed by Sejong the Great. It can be said that Hunminjeongeum is the result of complex of design created King Sejong the Great, a kind of pursue what we have lived for, moreover, it has had close relationship with our life. Futhermore, the design, combined human with nature, will keep its value permanently no matter how long the times go. Thus, we can say that the script design in Hunmin jeong-eum, based on the combination of nature principles and human philosophy of equlaity, is one of the best creations of design and hasdesign value highly. However, in the writer's opinion, we couldn't only content with foreign scholars' acknowledgement of superiority of Korean, what is more important is that we should search for new proposals through various experiments to make our people take much more interest in hangul. This paper will take a look at the basic formative principles in Hunmin Jeong-eum in details, which even the native Koreans rare know about, and then try to find out various ways of experiment in Korean, using principles of composition of the authentic text. Through this experiment, the writer got rid of visual study of characters and styles of letters. But the writer studied the principles of composition of Hangul in Hunminjeongeum Haerye . There are five basic patterns of sound, clarity and obscurity of sound, strongness and weakness of sound, the form and harmony of initial, medial, and final sound, and finally the speed of sound. Using them, the writer tried to make the fresh approach of study in the new aspect of view with color, form, visual feeling of the basic facts of design. When we are proud of Hungul ourselves-our mother tongue, we can spread the superiority of the Korean script and advance our language culture to become a member of the international society. Now, it is the time that Hangul has been required to develop in diverse fields, and this age we live in is the age of visualization in sensitivity, so experiments of expression using Hangul as diversity of design should be enhanced.
