Abstract

This study was intended to investigate the scheme for the Korean church to go a way toward the deep religion by making a theoretical analysis of the problems of church service that the Korean church is embracing. The concrete purpose of this study was to do as follows : First, to investigate the etymological meaning of church service and the principle of church service found in the Bible and the characteristic of Korean Christianity and the need for its renewal. Second, to inquire into what difference there is between today's church service and past church service by examining the evolutional history of Christian service. Third, to identify the actual condition and problem of Christian education and inquire into previous studies. Fourth, to inquire into the Biblical foundation and meaning of the renewal of Korean church service, and present an alternative to the renewal of church service. As a result of analysis, the following conclusion was drawn : First, when the renewal of church service is mentioned, its starting point should be found out in the Bible. The reason is that Jesus Christ, the self-revelation of God, becomes the center of the Bible. And church leaders need to allow worshipers ta make a shift in thinking thoroughly and continue strengthening church service. For this purpose, it is necessary to establish service or worship theology among congregations and give them an instruction in the fact that they should hold service with a focus on Jesus Christ. Second, congregations should not hold human-centered service but God-centered service, for which purpose it can be said that it is necessary to perform a Christian ceremony or service that is thoroughly educated. The reason is that the Christian ceremony is the law that the Lord gave, which provides the power for congregations to make a second jump. Third, it is necessary to increase the number of leaders of Christian education that is carried out principally by the general assembly of the Christian denomiantion and large-scale churches, to make a survey research into the present situation of church service on a cycle of 5 years and to allow each church to consult its result. Each church should be obligated to raise 10% of the total budget of the church at present to about 30% so as to train and educate educational leaders and foster the educational environment. Fourth, the renewal of church service should start from the individual life of the congregation, not from an institution, organization and the like. The reason is that the life of the Lord, the head of the shepherd of souls did so. Pastors should have a correct understanding of the congregation and fully educate the importance of the Christian ceremony to them so that the renewal of church service may continually become possible in the life of the congregation. For this purpose, the research institute under the umbrella of the general assembly and the large-scale church need to provide systematic and continual education for the front-life theological seminary and pastors and offer them diverse guidelines to exercise their church power.
