플라스틱 의자 디자인의 시대적 경향에 관한 연구

Abstract

인류 문명과 함께 발달되어온 가구는 인간의 삶과 매우 밀접하게 연결되어 있으며 그 시대의 문화와 생활양식을 반영하는 조형예술품이라 할 수 있다. 가구 디자인의 변화와 발전에 핵심적 역할을 한 의자는 인체에 가장 밀접하게 닿는 생활도구로서 인류와 같이 공존해왔다. 이제 의자는 현대생활에 있어 없어서는 안 될 필수품이 되었다. 특히 현대 디자인의 개념이 성립되기 시작한 산업혁명 이후부터는 의자디자인에 있어서도 다양한 재료와 모양, 기능과 용도의 변화가 일기 시작했다. 2차 세계대전은 세계적으로 경제적, 사회적, 문화적으로 지대한 영향을 미쳤다. 산업사회의 기술적 진보를 가져왔으며 산업 발전과 함께 전반적인 분야에서는 물론이고 디자인에 있어 신소재 개발은 매우 중요한 부분으로 인식되기 시작했다. 특히 플라스틱의 사용은 디자인계에 커다란 영향을 주었으며 의자디자인의 혁신적인 재료로 사용되어져 왔다. 20세기 이후 가구 산업분야는 플라스틱, 금속, 유리 등 새로운 재료를 사용하면서 여러 가지 기법뿐만 아니라 다양한 형태와 구조표현으로 발전하게 된다. 특히 의자는 2차대전 이후인 1945년부터 사회적, 경제적 기반과 기술적, 과학적 진보 등의 새로운 현상으로 인해 형성된 소비주의에 부응하는 디자인이 창조되었으며 그 이전에 이루어진 발전보다 급속한 발전을 이루고 있다. 20세기말 인류는 환경 문제에 관심을 가지게 되면서 분리와 조립, 환경오염 물질인 플라스틱의 사용과 재생, 천연 자원의 합리적인 사용 등을 연구하게 되었고 의자디자인에 있어서도 합리적인 플라스틱의 사용이 생태학적으로 정당화되어져야 한다. 이에 본고는 플라스틱에는 다양한 종류가 있으나 의자디자인에 많이 사용되어지는 플라스틱을 위주로 다루었다. 세계 2차대전 이후인 1945년부터 현재까지의 큰 디자인 양상을 토대로 시대를 분류하였으며 그 시대의 의자에 플라스틱을 적용시킨 대표적 디자이너를 중심으로 주요한 플라스틱의자를 제시하여 설명하였다. 2차 세계대전이후인 1945년 이후부터 현재까지 플라스틱재료를 사용한 의자디자인을 살펴보면서 의자디자인의 발전과 환경생태학적인 문제에 보다 많은 관심과 계속적인 연구가 이루어질 수 있도록 제안하며 플라스틱의자가 재활용이 가능한 내구성 있는 상품으로 연구·개발될 수 있도록 하는데 중점을 두었다.|The furniture that has developed along with the human civilization is connected with the human life very closely and it is the plastic arts that reflect culture and lifestyle of the time. Chairs that did played a great role changing and developing the furniture design existed with the mankind as the life tools that touch the human body most closely. Now the chair has become a necessity in the modem life. Especially, since the Industrial Revolution when the concept of modern design was established, there have been changes in the chair design such as material, shape, function, and use. The World War Ⅱ affected the world economically, socially, and culturally. It brought technical advance to the industrial society and the development of a new material started to be recognized as an important part in design of the general field along with the industrial development. Especially, the use of plastic had a big influence on the design field and it was used as a revolutionary material in the chair design. At the end of 20th century, the mankind started to have interests in the environmental problems so the people studied separation and assembling as well as use and recycling of the plastic which causes environmental pollution. They studied the reasonable use of the natural resources and the use of plastic in the chair design needs to be justified ecologically. After the 20th century, the furniture industry using new materials such as plastic, metal, and glass develops a variety of methods, shapes, and structure expressions. Especially with the chairs, a new design was created since 1945 after the World War Ⅱ to deal with the consumerism that was formed by new phenomena such as social advance, economical and technical advance, and scientifical advance. These are developing faster than the previous development. So this study looked into plastic that is used a lot in the chair design although there are diverse types of plastic. From 1945 after the World War Ⅱ to now, the periods were categorized based on the big design shape and the designers were categorized based on the representative plastic chairs of that period. Also, the plastic chairs of the designers were presented and described. This study proposes that continuous studies need to be done on the development of chair design and the ecological problems while looking at the chair designs that used plastic from 1945 to now. Also it focused on the development of plastic chairs so that they can become durable goods that can be recycled.
