쿠마 켄고 건축 공간의 입자성에 나타나는 시간성

Abstract

A human can recognize a space as they are 4-dimensional existence as terms of the time. Therefore, it must be considerable to fill the time in a architecture space. The space can be expressed as 'present', 'now', and 'event' as terms of the time and it will become the time from the perspective toward the amount of space changes As meaning of the architecture space as terms of the time indicate the space being removed the decoration and begins the considerable attention on 'time' due to the significant effect of humanism. the. At that time, metaphysical expression was still limited as terms of the time in modern period but later, as the phenomenological process of time was revealed in the field of contemporary science and philosophy and this lead to influence the architecture as well which can be able to express architectural space in a phenomenological way.

In this regard, the 'temporality' is the most significant factor to express the spaces internally in the modern architecture while previously it was expressed as external element. But, as architecture space became an expression as philosophical aesthetic discourse, there are still remained challenges like disconnected places due to the influence of capitalism, even though architectural environment accrued by the homogenous space of modern functionalism. Placeness can be exhibited as existential spaces through the gathering from internal matter, the passage can be transferred thrugh the schema from human physical perceptual activity. Thus, the contextual temporality of place is manifested in the internal context of the material, unlike the temporality of other architectural spaces so far in providing empirical space and should be addressed concentratedly along with other temporality.

At this point in time, Japanese architect Kuma Kengo perceives the significance regards on the place through modern and contemporary architectural criticism, and points out that the previous architecture which has been cut off from place as object architecture. As an alternative, he tried to connect the architecture materials as well as surrounding environments through his works and proposed the “anti-object building space” that consist of it’s identification from the places. Moreover, he suggests a novel procedures that minimizes physical perception and the object. Its properties as particles can be utilized as one of the awareness and this can be one of the significant factor in architecture spaces. Not only particles, the void between the particles plays important role to preserve the concept between external and internal coexist.

Therefore, the objective of this study analyzed conceptional and actual temporarily from the space potential through the architecture materials such as temporarily from the place, procedures and the spaces from the voids. The particle dimensional spaces from the materials preserve the designed procedures which shows the benefits of internal temporality and the research results from the analysis whether it still shows the contextual Temporality is shown like below.

1. Kuma Kengo's Architectural space particles shows one of the solution to overcome the challenges as places which exhibits overall immanent and external temporality. In the semi-particle void space between particles and particles shows the actual external temporality, the conceptual intrinsic and external temporality from the material's particle method, and symbolizes meaning of the particleized material which lead to contextual temporality through the location-memory contextuality and sociocultural contextuality. The inherent conceptual temporality has transferred the passage of the principal changes and movements conveyed from the architecture and also creates the conscious interrelationship between people and architectural spaces. The external real temporality, formed by the inflow of natural elements through the void space of the semiparticle, is an interactive space that communicates the effects of surrounding environment changes toward the space user and also can be opportunity to experiences the actual response of changes in the surrounding environment. Contextual timeliness that is obtained through materials creates the interrelationships that form in the material perception, and creates a conscious interrelationship from the inside as symbolized meaning of Placeness. 2. In the building space containing with particle, the intrinsic temporality shows mainly 3 types of the construction such as such as rhythmic particle composition, regular particle composition, and irregular particle composition. Through the rhythmic construction of particles, organic curvature can be created in the whole scalpel, giving a change in rhythm to present the change conceptually. Regular particle composition conceptually demonstrates the rhythmic changes of particles as they differ in the shading of light within a uniform iteration. Irregular particle composition conceptually leads the changes of the pattern which demonstrates the changes and movements among with the clusters. 3. Externally actual temporality in a architecture space containing particle properties can be exhibited through 3 types of the procedures; division of light, inflow of natural elements, and recognition process for elevation from the semiparticle-like void space. The spaces in void shows the potentials and Non-deterministic construct in contrast to the particlelaized materials. The void shows the actual temporality through the inflow between natural elements. Light creates a pattern with the shadow of a particle and changes shape depends on the time. In addition, the facade coexist with external sight and internal image when the gap between the particles is minimized and the void space acts as an overall component to the interface. At this time, the semi-particle space shows actual temporality by combining external movement and the facad. 4. The particlized building space shows a repetitive composition and lead the meaning from the difference between individuals at every events. Particles related with a 'lizome' leads a difference from the individual event depends on the light and forms the conceptual temporality through the unifrom flow from space. External temporality occur in the potential for neutral co-existence with respect to the semi-particle space. Likewise, it shows the concept of the time through the difference between the particles and semi-particles. 5. Kuma Kengo utilizes the architecture materials which composed of the particles in order to show the contextual temporality. Architecture materials can be tool to provide the connection within surrounding nature environment or human environment. Contextual temporality is sometimes shown when the process to repeat 'event' and this provides the connections with previous relationship as sociocultural Horizontal and Vertical ways which are called location-memory contextuality and sociocultural contextuality. Not only the material properties, the use of the materials contextuality can be repeatedly used as they are incorporated into the materials showing cultural Characteristic and formativeness.

Kuma kengo shows the novelty of his architecture spaces as external temporality, conceptional internal and external temporality and also contextual temporality through the particles the architectural materials. The combination between external/intrinsic and actual/conceptional temporality provides the a complex spatial experience. By the architecture matter with separated in the particlized way exhibited the contextual connection with social community through the materials and the spaces between semi-particles can be one factor to communicate with surrounding environment resulting the well connection. Therefore Kumar shows a novel design technique which is capable of forming the identification from the place within the architecture spaces through particlized matter at Facade, also provides an opportunity leading mental interrelationship and lead the spaces with complicated experiences through the physical awareness.

Keywords Intrinsic Temporality, Contextual Temporality, Anti-Object, Particle, Antiparticle | 사람은 시간상의 4차원 존재이기 때문에 공간을 인지한다. 따라서 건축 공간은 사람을 위해 시간을 담아야 한다. 공간은 시간상에서 점의 상태로 ‘현재·지금·사건’의 개념을 가지며, 공간의 변화량이 곧 시각과 시각 사이의 시간이 된다. 건축 공간에서 시간에 대한 고찰은 근대 시기 ‘재현’으로서의 장식을 버리면서 공간에 주목하고, 인본주의적 사상에 의해 시간성의 중요성을 자각하면서 시작된다. 근대의 시간개념은 형이상학적인 표현의 한계를 가지고 있었지만, 이후 현대의 과학과 철학 분야가 시간의 생성 과정을 현상학적으로 연구하게 되면서 건축 분야도 영향을 받아 건축 공간의 시간성을 현상학적으로 표현하게 된다. 이에 현대 건축공간은 근대 건축이 외재적 요소로 나타내던 시간성을 건축물 안에 주체적으로 구현시키면서 시간성을 내재화시켰다. 현대 건축공간이 이룩한 내재적 시간성은 근대 기능주의 건축이 만든 균질적인 공간의 건축 환경 문제를 해결점이 되었다. 하지만 건축 공간이 철학적 미학 담론의 표현 수단이 되면서 자본주의에 영향으로 브랜드화, 혹은 상품화되어 소비되면서 사회적인 맥락이 단절되는 장소성의 한계점을 보였다. 하이데거와 슐츠의 이론에 따르면, 장소성이란 물질이 가진 내면적인 이미지가 ‘모으는 것’을 통해 실존적 공간으로서 나타나는 것으로, 인간의 신체적 지각 활동 속에서 스키마(쉐마)의 인식과정을 통해 관념적으로 구축된다. 따라서 장소에 비롯해서 나타나는 맥락적 시간성은 경험적 공간을 제공하는데 있어 내재적 시간성과 함께 중점적으로 다뤄져야 한다.

현 시점을 비롯해 일본 건축가 쿠마 켄고는 근대와 현대의 건축 비평을 통해 장소성의 중요성을 지각하고, 장소로부터 단절된 지금까지의 건축을 오브젝트 건축으로서 비판한다. 그는 대안으로서 자신의 작품 활동을 통해 건축 소재를 주변 환경과 맥락적으로 연결하여, 장소로부터 비롯해 주체성을 형성하는 반(反)오브젝트 건축 공간을 제시했다. 이와 함께 그는 신체적 지각과 오브제의 해체를 위해 소재를 극소화한 입자적 방법을 제시한다. 입자화된 물성은 하나의 지각으로서 작용하고, 전체적으로는 건축 공간을 구성하고 있다. 입자뿐만 아니라 입자 사이에 나타나는 반입자적 공간(보이드)은 외부와 내부의 이분 대립적인 개념이 공존하는 ‘사이 공간’으로서 잠재성을 가진다. 이러한 입자화된 구조가 가지는 반복적 입면 특성은 질 들뢰즈의 현상학적인 생성 철학에서 연관성을 찾아 변화와 움직임을 보여줄 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 소재를 통해 나타나는 장소의 맥락적 시간성과, 입자적 구현 방법, 반입자적 보이드 공간의 잠재성에서 나타나는 관념적 및 실재적 시간성, 내재적 및 외재적 시간성을 분석했다.

소재의 입자적 공간 디자인 방법에서 내재적 시간성과 함께 장소와 연결되는 맥락적 시간성이 나타나는지 분석한 연구 결과를 정리하면 다음과 같다. 1. 쿠마 겐고가 보여주는 입자적 건축 공간은 장소의 문제점을 해결하는 공간 디자인 방법이다. 내재적 시간성과 외재적 시간성, 그리고 맥락적 시간성이 모두 나타나고 있기 때문이다. 입자와 입자 사이의 반입자적 보이드 공간에서는 실재적인 외재적 시간성, 소재의 입자적 방식에서는 관념적인 내재적 및 외재적 시간성이 나타나며, 소재가 가지는 상징적 의미는 입자화되어 장소 기억적 맥락성과 사회문화적 맥락성을 통해 맥락적 시간성이 나타나고 있다. 입자의 구성방식이 만드는 내재적인 관념적 시간성은 건축물이 가진 주체적인 변화와 움직임을 전달하고 사람과 건축 공간의 의식적 상호관계를 만들어준다. 반입자의 보이드 공간을 통한 자연요소의 유입으로 형성되는 외재적인 실재적 시간성은 주변 환경의 변화작용을 공간 사용자에게 전달하며 주변 환경과 실제적인 변화 감응을 경험할 수 있는 상호교류적인 공간이다. 소재를 통해 들어내는 맥락적 시간성은 물질적 지각에서 형성되는 상호관계를 넘어, 장소성이라는 비물질적인 상징의미로 들어가 내부로부터 의식적인 상호관계를 만든다. 2. 입자성을 가진 건축 공간에서 내재적인 관념적 시간성은 리듬적인 입자구성과 규칙적 입자구성, 불규칙적 입자구성과 같이 총 3가지의 구성 방식을 통해 나타난다. 입자들의 리듬적인 구성 방식을 통해 전체 메스에 유기적인 곡면을 만들 수 있으며, 리듬의 변화를 주어 변화를 관념적으로 보여준다. 규칙적인 입자구성은 균일한 반복구성 안에서 입자들이 빛의 음영작용에 차이를 보임에 따라 입자들의 리듬적 변화를 관념적으로 보여준다. 불규칙적 입자구성은 입자들이 군집하여 만드는 패턴이 변화함에 따라 군집 간의 유기적 변화와 움직임을 관념적으로 보여준다. 3. 입자성을 가진 건축 공간에서 외재적인 실재적 시간성은 반입자적인 보이드 공간에서 빛의 분절과 자연요소의 유입, 입면에 대한 인식 과정 총 3가지 방법을 통해 나타난다. 보이드 공간은 입자적 소재와는 대립하는 비결정적 요소이며 잠재성을 가지고 있다. 이에 보이드 공간은 빛, 또는 자연요소의 유입 작용이 일어나 실재적 시간성을 보여준다. 빛은 입자의 그림자와 함께 이차적 패턴을 만들어내며 시간의 흐름에 따라 형태를 변화한다. 이와 더불어 입자와 입자 사이의 간격이 극소화되어 보이드 공간이 입면에 전체적인 구성요소로서 작용할 때, 입면은 외부 시선과 내부 이미지가 공존하며 동시성을 가진다. 이때 반입자 공간은 외부의 움직임을 입면화시키며 실재적 시간성을 보여준다. 4. 건축 공간의 입자성은 반복적 구성을 가지며, 사건마다 개별적인 차이를 통해 의미를 생성하고 있다. ‘리좀’ 형태관계를 가진 입자들은 빛에 대해 개별적인 ‘사건’이 일어나게 되어 차이를 형성함에 따라 공간의 유동적 흐름이 만들어져 관념적 시간성을 만든다. 외재적 시간성은 반입자 공간에 의해 입면이 가지는 중립적 공존의 잠재성에서 일어나는 이중 대립적인 ‘사건’의 차이로 형성한다. 이와 같은 입자와 반입자의 ‘사건’ 차이가 가져오는 시간성은 현상학적인 시간개념을 보여준다. 5. 쿠마 켄고는 맥락적 시간성을 나타내기 위해 입자로 된 건축 소재를 사용한다. 건축 소재는 주변 자연환경 혹은 인문 환경의 장소성과 맥락적 연결을 도와준다. 맥락적 시간성은 장소적 ‘사건’을 ‘반복’시키는 과정에서 나타나며 연결되는 과거와의 관계는 수평·수직 총 2가지 방법으로서 사회문화적 맥락성과 장소기억적 맥락성이다. 맥락적인 소재를 사용함에 있어 소재의 물질성뿐만 아니라, 문화적 구조방식, 조형적 형태를 소재에 대입해 입자적으로 반복시켜 사용할 수 있다.

쿠마 켄고는 건축 소재를 통찰하고 이를 입자화 시킴에 따라 그의 건축 공간에는 반입자의 실재적인 외재적 시간성, 관념적인 내․ 외재적 시간성 그리고 맥락적 시간성이 나타난다. 이러한 외재적 시간성과 내재적 시간성, 실재적 시간성과 관념적 시간성 간의 결합은 복합적인 공간 경험을 제공한다. 입자적으로 해체된 건축물은 소재를 통해 사회문화와 맥락적 연결을 가지고, 반입자 공간을 통해 주변 환경과 소통함에 따라 주변과의 장소적 단절이 아닌 접합이 이루어진다. 따라서 쿠마 켄고의 건축 공간에서 입면의 입자성은 건축공간의 장소로부터 주체성을 형성시키고 의식적 상호관계를 가지며 신체적 지각을 통한 복합적인 경험적 공간을 생성하는 공간 디자인 방법이다.
