카니발 유형분류를 통한 캐릭터 디자인 제안 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 카니발 속 캐릭터 작품에 나타난 색채와 형태 등 조형적 특성을 분석하고, 응용하여 마스크 디자인과 오브제 디자인을 다양한 재료와 기법을 사용하여 캐릭터에 스토리를 담아 성격적 특성 분석을 통하여 창작 작품으로 디자인을 제안하고자함에 본 연구의 목적으로 삼고자 하였다. 본 연구의 대상으로 베네치아 카니발 가면, 전통가면에 나타난 표현기법과 조형적 특성을 선행연구나 문헌연구를 통해서 분석하고, NCS 표색계를 통한 색채적 특성을 분석하여 응용하고 접목시켜서 마스크 디자인, 오브제 디자인으로 제안하고자 하였다. 카니발 축제 속 가면은 시대적, 지역적, 상징적인 표현을 할 수 있는 역할로 때로는 자유, 저항, 해방, 풍자, 일탈의 도구로 사용되었다. 축제의 시작은 종교행사로 출발하였지만 시간이 흐르면서 축제는 위와 같이 다양한 의미를 가지고 변해갔다. 카니발 속 역할 뒤집기를 통해서 새로운 자아를 찾아가며 그로 인해 스스로에 대한 의미를 생각하며 성장한다. 이러한 축제는 소통의 장으로 여겨졌던 부분, 타의적이 아닌 능동적으로 참여하는 부분 등 모두 축제가 가지는 매력이 아닐 수 없다. 이러한 축제의 큰 흐름이 카니발이라는 축제를 통해 잘 나타나고 있다. 카니발 행렬에 등장하는 가면과 가장은 그 시대적인 특성을 반영하고 있다. 전통 가면에서는 익살, 풍자, 해방과 일탈의 느낌이 드러나 있으며 현대 가면은 소재의 다양성으로 인해서 가면과 가장의 장식적인 부분이 더욱 강조되고 화려해졌다고 볼 수 있다. 현대 카니발 축제 행렬에는 전통 가면과 현대 가면이 같이 공존하며 축제의 장을 완성해 나간다. 이러한 축제는 마치 과거와 현재를 연결해주는 공간처럼 보인다. 카니발에 사용되는 가면의 특징을 조형, 색채 분석을 통해 작품의 표현기법 특징을 응용하여 마스크 디자인과 오브제 디자인을 제안하였다. 소재의 다양성을 활용하여 작품이 가지는 고유한 특성을 살리고자 하였으며 표현기법에 차이를 두어 캐릭터의 특징적인 부분을 나타내고자 하였다. 총 마스크와 오브제 8개의 작품으로 디자인을 하였다. 이렇게 제작된 작품은 각 캐릭터에 맞는 성격적인 특성과 그 안에 함축된 의미를 나타내고자 한다. 본 연구는 예술작품의 다양한 소재와 기법을 마스크의 조형 분석, 기법 분석, 색채분석을 통한 응용연구의 지표가 되어 앞으로 좀 더 발전하여 활용되어지고, 더 나아가 다양한 재료와 기법을 적용한 연구를 통해 독창적이고 축제에 활용될 수 있는 실용적인 부분과 예술적인 성격을 같이 갖는 마스크 디자인과 오브제 디자인 작품에 대한 후속 연구가 이루어지길 바란다. | This study analyzes, the feature of colors and shapes of the characters in the carnivals, and has its aim to create and suggest a new mask and objet designs using various materials and techniques to embody the characters’ stories to present its original characteristic. Venice Carnival mask and traditional mask are chosen as the subject of this study to analyze the technique of expression and figurative features through preceding research and literature and proposing mask and objet designs coloristic feature applied that is analyzed through NCS color coordinates. The masks in the carnival festivals expressed a particular period of time, regions and symbols also as a tool of freedom, resistance, liberation, satire and deviation at times. The festival originally started as a religious event however it changed as above over time. Through changing roles in the carnivals people found their new ego and grow thinking about one’s true self. These festivals were taken as a place of communication and people were actively participated. This is what the festival attracts the most. Such festival’s flow is presented through carnival festivals. The masks and the disguise that appear in the carnival parades reflects the features of that period. Traditional masks show humor, satire, liberation and deviation and modern masks became much more glamourous with since using various materials highlighting the accessories. Traditional masks and modern masks coexist, completing the festival, in the carnival parades today. This seems like a path that connects the past and the present. Mask design and objet design were newly created by applying the technique of expression which was from analyzing the coloristic and figurative feature of carnival masks. To emphasize the design’s unique elements variety of materials were actively used also carefully chose different techniques of expression to present special features of the characters. Masks and objet total 8 pieces are designed. These newly designed pieces presents personality features of each characters and to show implied meaning inside. This study may can be a beacon of applied researches through analyzing colors, figures and techniques from searching different art works and their materials and techniques. Moreover, wish to find follow up studies that contain new mask design and objet design which are both artistic and realistic using various materials and techniques to be able to be part of unique festivals.
