Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find the successful type of publishing contents from cultural contents. For this purpose, I suggested successful type by analyzing success factor of self-help books for women.
In chapter Ⅰ, it is discussed and investigated the notion of self-help and self-help books. Self-help is defined as practice to get good result based on knowledge and skill, which helps developing potential of change and improvement oneself.
In chapter Ⅱ, it is chosen the process and object of this study. It is focused on the contents producing by applying the need of users with reference existing studies. The criteria for analysis are title expression, substance and user. To analyze, it is referenced the bestseller of self-help books for women in 7 book stores. For choosing the bestseller as study object, 3 steps are used - a law of 80/20, listed more than 2 book stores and listed at the 2 different sampling date.
In chapter Ⅲ, it is analyzed to find successful factor of publishing contents from self-help books for women by criteria in chapter Ⅱ.
To analyze title expression, it is used 3 detail classifications as used words, structure of sentence and type of expression. Used words in title have 4 functions - designating the user, fixing the goal of self-help, guiding the method for self-help and showing the field of self-help. Structure of sentence shows that noticeable portion of title as sentence type because it is easy to provide information and shows detail of the contents. Type of expression is used to emphasize benefit of the user.
To analyze substance, it is used theme, author and form of narration. Theme can be categorized as practical, social and personal purpose by the motivation of user. It is expected that the major portion will be practical purpose of theme, but result shows that there are noticeable cases as social purpose. Author can be subdivided scholar, actual worker and professional writer by considering an affect on publishing contents. As a result, actual worker is majority as author. Form of narration can be subdivide as type of storytelling, type of essay and type of summary by the method of providing specific informations. Because utilization of information is important feature, type of summary is majority as a result.
To analyze user, it is focused on the relation between contents and user. First, it is considered that detail user can be categorized as marriage and job. Second, it is analyzed the desire of user, as a result there is noticeable contents which shows desire of achievement. Last, it is studied the expected effect of user and the results shows that confirmation of identity as majority because it can help to realize the potential of user.
In Chapter Ⅳ, it is proposed that successful type of self-help books for women by analyzed result of chapter Ⅲ. It was expected that the successful type could be a composition of results from chapter Ⅲ, but result shows that there is no publishing contents which includes all factors of chapter III. So it is suggested the successful type of combined factors which shows high frequency in chapter Ⅲ and showed 3 types of the theme - practical, social and personal purpose.
This study is significance of first dealing with self-help books for women, it is used different approach by studying on bestseller and suggested successful type. The result of this study would be applicable and extended to other researches on publishing contents.
