제조 중소기업의 연구개발역량이 기업성과에 미치는 영향

Abstract

In order for R&D results to create successful corporate performance, the ability to effectively utilize and learn technological knowledge is necessary, and a strategic direction to achieve sustainable corporate growth and competitive advantage is important. Since it is not easy for small and medium-sized enterprises to connect their limited internal human and technological capabilities to corporate performance in a rapidly changing market, it can be said that providing a direction to connect R&D results to corporate performance is meaningful. Based on my experience performing R&D in small and medium-sized enterprises and technology commercialization consulting activities in consulting agencies, I began this study to prove that absorptive capacity and strategic orientation have an effect on R&D capabilities and corporate performance. Therefore, this paper aims to study the causal relationship between absorptive capacity and strategic orientation and to determine which part affects corporate performance. The research topic is organized as follows. This study focused on absorptive capacity and strategic orientation in order for manufacturing SMEs to create corporate performance through R&D. The relationship between absorptive capacity and strategic orientation was confirmed between R&D capacity and corporate performance. In order to achieve the research purpose, a survey was conducted targeting employees who are engaged in R&D-related work at manufacturing SMEs, and analysis was conducted using SPSS and AMOS statistical programs. The research was conducted using basic statistical analysis, exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and structural equation modeling analysis, and multiple regression analysis and mediation effect test were conducted. The results of the research analysis are as follows. First, R&D capacity was found to have a significant effect on absorptive capacity. Second, R&D capacity was found to have a partial significant effect on strategic orientation. Third, R&D capacity was found to have a partial significant effect on corporate performance. Fourth, absorptive capacity was found to have a significant effect on strategic orientation. Fifth, absorptive capacity was found to have no significant effect on the two factors of corporate performance, financial performance and non-financial performance. Sixth, strategic orientation was found to have a partial significant effect on corporate performance. Seventh, R&D capacity was found to have an effect on corporate performance through absorptive capacity and strategic orientation. The results of the study on the impact of R&D capabilities on corporate performance through absorptive capacity and strategic orientation suggest that companies need to expand their investments and manpower for R&D, strengthen their engineering capabilities that implement the value of technology and products, acquire necessary information externally, internalize technology, and convert and utilize it to fit the organization in order to achieve technological superiority in the market. Therefore, setting goals for achieving technological superiority, expanding R&D investment to realize them, strengthening researchers’ engineering capabilities, acquiring knowledge of new technologies, and training to apply and utilize them in companies are required. Based on this study, it is expected that research on R&D capabilities, absorptive capacity, and strategic orientation will continue in the rapidly changing market environment in the future, which will help improve the difficult management environment of manufacturing SMEs.| 연구개발 결과가 성공적인 기업성과를 창출하기 위해서는 기술적 지식을 효과적으로 활용하고, 새로운 지식을 학습하는 능력과 기업의 지속적 성장과 경쟁우위를 달성하기 위한 전략적 방향이 중요하다. 빠른 속도로 변화하는 환경에서 중소기업의 제한된 인적, 물적 역량을 효율적으로 활용하여 기업의 성과를 창출하기에는 쉽지 않으므로 연구개발 결과물을 기업성과로 연결하기 위한 방향을 제공하는 것은 의미있는 일이라고 할 수 있다. 본 연구자는 중소기업에서의 연구개발, 컨설팅 기관에서의 기술사업화 컨설팅 활동을 수행한 경험을 바탕으로, 연구개발역량과 기업성과 간 흡수역량과 전략적지향성이 영향을 미친다는 것을 증명하기 위해 본 연구를 시작하였다. 따라서 본 연구의 논문은 흡수역량과 전략적지향성의 어떠한 부분이 기업의 성과에 영향을 주는지에 대한 인과관계를 연구해보고자 다음과 같이 정리하였다. 제조 중소기업이 연구개발을 통해 기업의 성과를 창출하기 위한 차원에서 흡수역량과 전략적지향성에 초점을 두고, 연구개발역량과 기업성과 사이에서의 흡수역량과 전략적지향성의 관계를 확인하였다. 연구목적을 달성하기 위하여 제조 중소기업의 연구개발 관련 업무를 진행하고 있는 직장인을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였으며, SPSS22.0 및 AMOS22.0 통계분석 프로그램을 활용하여, 기초 통계, 탐색적 요인, 신뢰도, 확인적 요인을 분석하고 구조방정식 모형분석을 이용하여 다중 회귀분석 및 매개효과 검정을 진행하였다. 연구 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 연구개발역량이 흡수역량에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 연구개발역량이 전략적지향성에 부분적으로 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 연구개발역량이 기업성과에 부분적으로 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 흡수역량이 전략적지향성에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 다섯째, 흡수역량은 기업성과의 두 가지 요인인 재무성과와 비재무성과에 모두 유의한 영향을 미치지 못하는 것으로 나타났다. 여섯째, 전략적지향성은 기업성과에 부분적으로 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 일곱째 연구개발역량은 흡수역량과 전략적지향성을 매개로 기업성과에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 연구개발역량이 흡수역량과 전략적지향성을 매개로 기업성과에 미치는 영향을 연구한 결과 중소기업은 R&D 투자 및 인력 등의 확대, 기술과 제품의 가치를 구현하는 엔지니어링 능력의 강화, 필요한 기술정보를 외부를 통해 획득하고 기술을 내재화하여 조직에 맞도록 전환하고 활용하여 시장에서 기술적 우월함을 달성하기 위해 노력이 필요하다는 것을 시사한다. 따라서 기술적 우위를 달성하기 위한 목표의 설정과 이를 실현하기 위한 R&D 투자의 확대, 연구원의 엔지니어링 역량을 강화와 새로운 기술에 대한 지식의 확보와 이를 기업에 적용하고 활용하는 훈련이 요구된다. 향후 본 연구를 바탕으로 빠르게 변화하는 시장환경에서 연구개발역량, 흡수역량과 전략적지향성에 대한 연구가 지속적으로 진행되어 제조 중소기업의 어려운 경영환경의 개선에 도움이 되기를 기대한다.
