精神遲滯兒童의 社會性 向上을 위한 放課후 敎室 活用에 관한 硏究
- Abstract
- The purpose of this study is to help mentally retarded children spend their after-school time with the unhandicapped kids through the regional organizations in hopes to increase their (mentally retarded children) social skills. To achieve these tasks, this study will be carried out within the following order.
In chapter 1 (introduction), the problems, purpose of this study, the procedure and the limitations of the study within this area are discussed.
In chapter 2 (theoretical background), definition of the mentally retarded children, their distinctive characteristic, the idea and the ability of socializing and the present situation are studied through the past records and documents.
Through the inquiry on the present after school activities, we also tried to bring up the possible purpose of the after school activities and the reason why we believe it is necessary for handicapped and the unhandicapped kids to socialize together, The study on the actual proof and the result of this analyzation are told within chapter 3.
The two groups assembled for the study on the actual proof are the teachers of the handicapped at the specialized school and the parents of the handicapped, both who are residing in Seoul.
The surveys were sent out to 50 teachers and 100 parents who were random sampling. These surveys were returned by 38 teachers and 78 parents showing 76% of participation.
According to the surveys that were returned, most of the handicapped children were spending after school time at home. Of the 84 after school classes run by welfare facilities in Seoul, only few classes were made for the handicapped.
However after school classes that were not run by welfare facilities did not include any classes meant for the mentally retarded children.
As a result, we believe it is necessary that all after school classes should be opened for both the handicapped and the unhandicapped.
It is also necessary that education for the handicapped and the unhandicapped should be combined within the after school classes.
Presently there is no sign of combined education for both groups in any of the after school classes.
As a result we are desperately in need so that both the mentally retarded children and the unhandicapped kids can be given a opportunity where they can gather to work with each other and socialize.
Both the teachers and the parents believe combined education could help the mentally retarded children learn to control their emotions, work with one another, gain self-confidence, increase their abilities to express themselves, realize their current situations, increase their abilities to communicate, obey the rules and much more all leading to increase their socializing techniques.
Also, according to the survey, the teachers and parents are willing to participate their children in regular after school classes if the classes can adopt combined education.
Because welfare work is for the dignity of the people, and made for everyone, we strongly believe combining after school classes is necessary for the development of mentally retarded children's socializing skills.
