Abstract
The purpose of this study is to determine the factors affecting volunteer service people's satisfaction with their activities and reviewing the relationship between the factors and volunteers' satisfaction with their activities.
The results of this study can be summarized as follows. First, volunteers' environmental factor does not affect their volunteer service activities. Second, the factor affecting their satisfaction with the volunteer services is recognition of importance of their activities and their roles. Third, such management factors as assessment, education/training and deployment affect volunteers' satisfaction with their activities much. Fourth, such variables as age, religion or marital status do not affect volunteers' satisfaction with their activities.
Based on the above findings, the alternatives to improve volunteers' satisfaction with their volunteer service activities may be suggested as follows in terms of management and supporting system. First, in order to effectively manage the volunteers, it is necessary to arrange a mechanism of managing them in terms of participation types, deployment of supervisors, guidance, orientation, communication and measures against suspension of activities. Second, the current temporary education should be replaced with a permanent one with the level of orientation enhanced, which should be designed to promote volunteers' understanding of their services and inform them of required skills, in consideration of volunteers' attributes (elderly, women, juveniles and professional people), objects and types of volunteer services. Third, it is deemed necessary to introduce an incentive system for volunteers. Although the volunteer services should be unrewarded, a proper incentive system designed to encourage the volunteers may be effective in activating the volunteer services. Fourth, contents of the volunteer services should be diversified. Fifth, in order to effectively manage the volunteers, it is essential to educate the existing volunteer service personnels of the volunteer centers and recruit professional personnels for the centers. Sixth, the financial problems should be solved to reinforce the supporting system for the volunteer services. Seventh, since women and middle/high school students account for the majority of the volunteers, it is essential to enhance the cooperation among centers in the community.
