일부 스마트폰 소음측정 어플에 대한 정확도 평가

Abstract

본 연구는 소음측정 어플을 이용하여 아이폰을 작업현장에서의 소음계의 대용이나 간이측정용으로 사용이 가능한지 여부를 탐색하기 위하여, 아이폰용 소음측정 어플 37개에 대하여 측정의 정확도를 평가하였다. 평가방법은 실험실에서 일정한 소리를 발생시킨 상태에서 소음측정 어플을 작동시킨 아이폰과 정밀소음계로 소음수준을 측정하여 비교하였다. 소음측정 실험은 주파수 범위 100∼8000Hz에서 70, 80 및 90dB의 3가지 수준에서 실시하였다. 소음은 각 주파수별 순음의 mp3파일을 컴퓨터와 스피커를 통해 발생시켰다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 1000Hz의 순음, 90dB 수준에서 아이폰4는 37개의 어플 중 정밀소음계의 오차범위인 ±1dB의 정확도를 보이는 어플은 4개(10.8%)였고, 보통소음계의 오차범위인 ±2dB의 정확도를 보인 어플은 6개(16.2%)인 것으로 나타났다. 같은 조건에서 아이폰3Gs는 ±1dB의 정확도를 보이는 어플은 2개(5.4%), ±2dB의 정확도를 보인 어플은 8개(21.6%)였다. 2. 소음측정 어플 중에서 아이폰4용과 아이폰3Gs용으로 구분한 어플은 없었고, 모두 아이폰4와 아이폰3Gs의 공용이었다. 따라서 어플이 자체적으로 아이폰3Gs인지 아이폰4인지를 인식하지 않으면 아이폰4와 아이폰3Gs에서 측정한 소음수준은 하드웨어 구성요소(예: 마이크폰)의 성능에 따라 달라질 것이다. 실제로 동일한 어플을 작동시킨 두 가지 아이폰을 가지고 동시에 소음측정을 할 경우, 거의 모든 어플에서 아이폰4의 측정값이 높게 나타났다. 그러나 일부 어플은 두 아이폰에서 측정한 값이 거의 같았다. 3. UE SPL 소음측정어플은 100∼8000Hz까지 비교적 정확하게 A 특성치 보정을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 A 특성치 보정을 평가한 4개의 어플 중 3개는 100∼8000Hz까지 거의 A 특성치 보정을 하지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 5. 여러 대의 아이폰4 기기에서 동일한 어플로 동시에 측정했을 때 기기간 차이는 거의 없는 것으로 나타났다. 기기간 표준편차는 0.5 dB이하였다. 6. 소음측정 어플의 가격과 정확도에는 특별한 상관관계를 보이지 않았다.|Smart phones are very popular and a number of noise measurement applications are also available. Thus, the smart phone with it's noise measurement apps has a high potential to be used for workplace noise monitoring. In this study, accuracy and validity of 37 noise measurement applications for iPhone were evaluated to explore the possibility whether they can be used for the workplace monitoring purposes. Tests were conducted at 70, 80, 90 dB at 100∼8000 Hz. The pure tone sound was generated by computer and speaker with pure tone MP3 files. The sound pressure levels were calibrated with using the precision sound level meter. The results of this study were as follows.

1. Four apps (10.8%) showed ±1 dB accuracy and 6 apps (16.2%) showed ±2 dB accuracy among 37 apps with the iPhone4 at 90 dB for 1000 Hz.

2. Two apps (5.4%) showed ±1 dB accuracy and 8 apps (21.6%) showed ±2 dB accuracy among 37 apps with the iPhone3Gs at 90 dB for 1000 Hz.

3. No apps were differentiated by versions for iPhone4 and iPhone3Gs. All apps were commonly used for iPhone4 and iPhone3Gs. Therefore, unless the apps are able to recognize the type of iPhones and to correct the iPhone types, the noise measurements by iPhone4 and iPhone3Gs with even same app will produce different measurement values due to the different performance of hardware components, such as microphone.

4. Some apps, such as UE SPL showed good performance for A-weighting correction along the frequencies for 100~8000 Hz. However, 3 apps among 4 tested apps showed poor performance for A-weighting correction along the frequencies for 200~2000 Hz.

5. Standard deviation for Inter-iPhones variation was 0.5 dB. Thus, virtually there is no significant differences among the iPhone instruments.

6. No correlation between accuracy and cost of apps was found.
