- Abstract
- The purpose of this study is to design the education model for idiomatic expression in which subject and function is connected each other. For a foreigner who wants to learn Korean language, the first purpose of Korean language learning is the fluent and smooth communication. The fluent communication can be accomplished by correct and efficient use of language. In order to express efficiently what they want to say in various situation, the understanding and appropriate use of basic idiomatic expression frequently spoken by Koreans is essential.
The importance of teaching idiomatic expressions in Korean language education starts to appear day by day. However the current education of idiomatic expressions is not being accomplished systemically. The relative importance in idiomatic expressions of Korean teaching materials is not so large and neither systemically configured.
Accordingly the systemic idiomatic expressions in Korean language education requires a new method to configure idiomatic expressions in teaching materials. Also it requires efficient education method which can utilize idiomatic expressions according to configuration of teaching materials. The education method like following has been proceeded in this study in order to secure education method for those idiomatic expressions.
In chapter I 'Introduction' propose the necessity of study, arrange and suggests some topics of study for idiomatic expressions. In chapter II, the concept and characteristics of idiomatic expressions as theoretical background is reviewed. also the studies and discussions for the categories of idiomatic expressions and language and idiom on the boundary are reviewed. Through proceeding studies, the categories of idiomatic expressions has been designated.
In chapter III, idiomatic expressions shown in Korean language teaching materials has been analysed. 27 text books from 5 organizations among college teaching materials has been analysed. The standard of analysis is based on dividing the teaching materials into internal configuration and external configuration while internal configuration is more focused. The result of analysis and problem in Korean language teaching materials has been deduced based on the above standard.
In chapter IV, the method is designed to reinforce the deduced problem. At the moment there is no standardized list of idiomatic expressions in Korean language education. So this study has selected list of idiomatic expressions by designating primary, intermediate and high level in the standard. And based on the list of idiomatic expressions in those levels, the topic, function and idiomatic expressions has been tried to be connected each other for each level. Finally the model of teaching elements and closely connected unit configuration model method and teaching and learning method has been suggested.
Through this study, learners are able to understand the meaning of idiomatic expressions systemically and make deduction in discussions. Also we expect the effect that idiomatic expressions can be used in various context through meaning relationship of idiomatic expressions.
This study is focused again on the necessity of systematic education of idiomatic expressions, which are a bit not systemically conducted in Korean language education. Also topic, function and trial to connect idiomatic expressions in order to expand the width of study has its meaning.
