어린이 도서관 가구계획에 관한 연구

Abstract

책을 읽는 환경에 대한 관심이 높아지면서 전국적으로 어린이를 중심으로한 어린이 전용 도서관 및 공공도서관의 어린이 시설에 대한 양적요구가 급격히 증가하고 있고 어린이를 위한 공간에 신축과 리모델링 사업이활발히 추진되고 있다. 그러나 어린이 도서관 계획에 대한 역사가 길지 않은 우리나라의 경우, 어린이 도서관과 관련한 디자인적 연구가 매우 미흡한 실정이다. 따라서 도서관의 신축이나 리모델링 계획에 있어서 어린이 관점에서의 효율적이고 합리적인 데이터를 얻는데 많은 어려움을 안고 있다. 최근 어린이들을 위한 공간에 이해와 관심이 확산되어 나타나는 사회에서 어린이를 대상으로 한 열람실 가구의 다양성과 구체성이 더욱 요구되고 있다. 어린이 도서관은 아동의 연령과 발달 상황에 따라 요구되어지는 사항들이 있으며 물리적으로 이 요구사항이 반영될 때 어린이들은 열람실이라는 공간에서 올바른 독서문화를 습득할 수 있다. 또한 성숙한 학습력으로 성장해가는 긍정적인 영향을 줄 수 있다. 본 연구는 어린이 독서문화 정착을 위한 효율적인 행동 지원을 하는 의자, 책상, 서가의 열람실 가구 디자인을 제안하는데 그 목적이 있다. 어린이의 요구사항이 반영되는 도서관 열람실의 물리적 환경은 어린이들만의 공간이라는 데에 있어 적극적이고 능동적이라 할 수 있다. 어린이 행동을 기준으로 하는 열람실은 기존의 평면적이고 형식만 갖춘 열람실 개념을 탈피하여 어린이의 요구와 각자의 다양한 개성을 만족시켜주는데 중요한 역할을 할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 먼저 이론적 고찰로 어린이 도서관과 도서관 열람실 가구에 관하여 정리하였다. 사례조사의 대상이 되는 어린이 도서관 선정은 국가 또는 지방단체가 설립·운영하는 공립 공공어린이 도서관이며 한국도서관협회의 전국 도서관 통계조사 자료를 바탕으로 이루어졌다. 연구자는 2000년도 이후 개관이 활발해진 경기도의 공공 어린이 도서관 24곳을 살펴보았다. 도서관법에서 정하고 있는 도서관 시설에 대한 기준은 주로 이용자 수에 따른 시설(건물면적과 열람석)과 자료(기본장서와 연간증서)로 규정 도서관법 시행령 제3조 [별표1] 도서관의 종류별 시설 및 자료의 기준 하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 이를 참고하여 도서관 봉사대상 인구수 10만~30만 미만에서 이에 해당하는 면적 1,650㎡이상 3,300㎡이하인 16곳으로 범위를 좁혔다. 이중에서 사진촬영과 실측 등 관찰조사에 협조를 보인 8곳이 최종 선정되었고 선정된 8곳은 바른샘, 안양, 의정부, 꿈나무, 상록, 군포, 단원, 행신 어린이 도서관이다. 총 8곳이 선정 되었으며 연구자는 사례 조사 대상인 어린이 도서관 8곳(바른샘, 안양, 의정부, 꿈나무, 상록, 군포, 단원, 행신)에 직접 방문하여 열람실에서 쓰이는 가구 중에서도 어린이의 열람활동에 밀접한 관계가 있는 책상, 의자, 서가를 중심으로 조사하였다. 또한 본 연구에서는 어린이만을 위한 적극적이고 구체적인 방법으로써 어린이의 행동을 지원해 줄 수 있는 가구계획을 제안하고자 이 세가지 가구를 사용하는 어린이들의 행동을 관찰하였다. 그 결과 열람가구인 책상과 의자에서 앉아서 책읽기, 올라타기, 옮기기, 그룹지어 앉기, 경계 지어 앉기, 책을 읽어주거나 작은 소리로 대화하기, 들여다보기 참견하기, 따라하기, 통과하기 등이 관찰 되었다. 이는 물리적 요소가 처음에 배치할 때에 예상된 의도와는 다른 기능으로 어린이가 재해석하여 다르게 활용하는 것 또한 발견할 수 있었다. 어린이의 공간을 연령단계와 이들의 발달학적 요구에 부응하는 환경을 제공하고자 국내와 국외 어린이 도서관, 어린이 공간에서 어린이의 편익을 다루는 연구자들의 선행연구를 조사 하였다. 2002년도 이후 국내 9개의 문헌 연구에서 6개 이상이 어린이의 편익 항목으로 안전, 융통성, 편의, 스케일, 편안함의 다섯가지 항목을 공통적으로 다루고 있으며 국외 선행연구에서는 7개 이상이 안전과 융통성의 항목을 공통적으로 다루고 있었다. 따라서 본 연구자는 이 관련 문헌에서 가장 많이 다뤄지고 있는 안전, 융통성, 편의, 스케일, 편안함의 다섯가지 항목을 중심으로 체크리스트를 작성하였다. 체크리스트의 구성내용은 의자, 책상, 서가에서 관찰된 어린이의 행동에 따라 요구되는 점을 관찰하여 작성하였다. 가구의 수치에 관련한 리스트는 선행연구와 KS 표준규격을 참고하여 그 기준을 정리하였다. 체크리스트를 크게 의자, 책상, 서가로 분류하여 각 가구마다 요구되는 사항들을 나열하였고 이를 다섯가지 평가항목으로 다시 분류하여 작성하였다. 이 체크리스트는 어린이도서관 관리자 10명에게 내용을 검증받고 다시 관리자 30명을 대상으로 각 항목에 일치한다고 생각되는 질문에 체크하도록 하여 2/3 이상 체크된 것을 기준으로 분류하였다. 본 연구는 8곳의 도서관을 방문하여 실측과 사진촬영으로 체크리스트 표기의 방법으로 조사가 진행되었다. 연구자는 어린이 도서관 8곳의 의자, 책상, 서가를 종류별로 사진촬영을 하였고 사이즈, 위치, 재질을 표로 정리하였다. 또한 가장 항목별로 문제점을 찾아내기 위하여 체크리스트 표기 결과를 항목별로 나누어 분석하였고 가장 미흡한 어린이 도서관을 찾아내기 위하여 3가지 가구의 표기율을 정리하여 절반수치 미만에 해당하는 어린이 도서관 수치에 색칠하는 형식으로 분석하였다. 각각의 편차는 다르지만 3가지 가구의 전반적인 표기율을 볼 때 평균 값이 가장 낮은 상록어린이 도서관이 가장 미흡하였고 이는 체크리스트를 포함하고 있는 다섯가지 항목에도 영향이 미친다고 판단하여 체크리스트에 대응하는 개선방안을 제시하고자 하였다. 분석의 다음 장에서는 상록 어린이 도서관을 선정한 이유와 체크리스트에 어떻게 표기되었는지에 대한 내용을 자세히 정리하였다. 기존에 연구자가 확보한 1층과 2층의 도면으로 계단실과 화장실, 다목적 공간을 제외하고 본 연구에서 다루고 있는 어린이도서관 열람실에서 의자, 책상, 서가를 새롭게 디자인하여 제시하고자 하였다. 연구자는 상록 어린이 도서관을 「水」라는 개념을 적용하였다. 이는 어린이 도서관에서 어린이들이 물 흐르듯 공간을 자유롭고, 자연스럽게 활동하며 공간에 스며들고 공간에 몸을 담그고 열람활동을 한다는 의미를 담는다. 물의 성질을 이용하여 가구의 형태를 잡았고 이 가구를 통하여 어린이와 공간과의 커뮤니케이션이 서로 잘 되도록 하였다. 공간과의 커뮤니케이션은 공간이 어린이의 자율적이고 자유로운 행동의 요구를 지원하고 만족시켜줄 수 있을 때 최상의 상태로 이루어진다. 이 개념을 반영하여 동선을 비롯하여 의자, 책상, 서가를 새로 계획하였다. 의자와 책상의 높이 조절, 서가 하단부의 쿠션마감, 서가를 서가의 용도만이 아닌 의자로도 사용할 수 있도록하는 디자인 등 새로 계획 되어진 상록어린이 도서관은 체크리스트의 질문사항을 모두 만족 시킨다. 이는 즉, 어린이 행동을 지원하는 다섯가지 항목 - 안전, 융통성, 스케일, 편의, 편안함의 항목에도 모두 만족시킬 수 있어 어린이 도서관이라는 공간에서 어린이의 효과적인 독서문화 정착을 위한 열람실 가구를 디자인하여 제시하였다 할 수 있다. 이러한 디자인 과정을 통하여 연구자는 보다 확실하게 어린이 도서관에서 실질적으로 쓰일 수 있는 어린이만을 위한 가구를 디자인하여 제시하였다. 또한 가구의 구체화를 위하여 스펙을 제공하였다. 스펙의 구성내용은 3D 모델링을 포함하여 치수, 도면(Top view, Front view, Side view), 재질, 색상, 특성을 표로 만들어 제시하였다. 그리하여 새롭게 디자인 된 상록어린이 도서관에 대하여 도서관사서 2인, 초등학교교사 1인, 유치원교사 1인을 대상으로 실제 어린이도서관에서 적용 가능한지에 대하여 인터뷰 조사를 실시하였고 소결을 정리하였다. 또한 문헌과 지금까지의 사례조사 분석에서 항목별로 평가 분석된 문제점을 종합하여 어린이의 행동을 지원하는 다섯가지 항목 분류에 따라 열람실의 가구형태와 배치에 대한 결론을 내렸다. 결론적으로 본 연구는 어린이 행동의 요구사항을 반영하고 어린이의 편익 항목을 만족시킬 수 있는 방법을 새로운 공간 디자인을 통하여 제시하였다.| As an interest on reading environment has been increasing, demand on quantity for child exclusive library and public library is soaring, and they are actively build and remodel the spaces for children. However in Korea, which doesn't have a long history on child library plan, related design research is insufficient. Therefore, it is still difficult to get the effective and economic data for building or remodeling plan for child-centered library. In recent society which understanding and interest for children centered spaces is emerging, reading room furniture's diversity and concreteness is needed. In children's library, there are demanded programs depend on children's age and development condition, and children can acquire correct reading culture when these requirements are applied. Also, it can be a positive influence for mature learning capabilitie. This research is aim to suggest design of reading room furnitures such as chair, bookshelf and desk which can support children's effective behavior to settle children's reading culture. In regard to this matter, this research will plan and suggest actively and concretely on reading room furnitures for children. Reading room's physical environment which includes children's demand is active and enthusiastic as it is a place only for the children. Reading room which break the typical reading room concept and standardized for children's behavior can play an important role to satisfy children's demand and respective personality. Firstly, this research organize the thoughts of children's library and its' furniture through theoretical consideration. The choice of the children's library in this research about is reorganized by 2009 Korean library almanac's statics and searched the children's library in Kyungkido that actively opened after 2000. The research proceeded with 8 places which was cooperative on photo shoot and acture measurement. The researcher visited 8 libraries and took pictures of reading room furnitures like desk, chair, and bookshelf which are closely related to children's reading activities. Furthermore, the researcher observed children's behavior of using these three furnitures to suggest the furniture design which can support children's behavior. Consequently, the behaviors like reading on the desk and chair, climbing, moving, sitting in a group, sitting with the boundary, reading to others, talking in small voice, looking in to others, interfering others, imitating others are observed. This shows that physical elements can be used differently by children's reinterpretation, not only like the researcher expected.

To provide the environment which fulfills children's age and developmental demand, the researcher researched domestic and foreign libraries and previous studies by other researcher who handles children's convenience and children's space. After 2002, 6 out of 9 indicate 5 categories as safety, convenience, scale, ease, flexibility in domestic research, and more than 7 indicates safety and flexibility in foreign previous study. Therefore this researcher made a check list on 5 important categories such as safety, convenience, scale, ease, flexibility. The composition of the check list made by observing the demand for children's behavior on chair, desk and bookshelf. About the list related to the furniture's measurement set standard by using the previous studies and KS standard. The researcher classified the check list in desk, chair, and bookshelf's respective demand, and then classified it as 5 categories. This check list has been proved by 10 Children's library administrators and later make 30 administrators to check the list which they think accord, and classified if 2/3 of them are checked. This research progressed by taking pictures and actual measuring the 8 libraries. The researcher took pictures of chair, desk, and bookshelf of each kinds and organized their size, location, and material in a chart. Also, to find a problem in each items, the research analyzed the check list in each items and colored the library that doesn't fulfill the half of the standard mark rate of the 3 furnitures to fine the most insufficient library. Respective deviation can be different, but in an aspect of a standard deviation Sanglok children's library was most insufficient in those 3 furniture's mark rate, and it can be considered as influential to 5categories. So the research tried to suggest reformation. After the analysis, the researcher display why he choose Sanglok Children's library and how it noted on the check list. Except the stairs, toilet, and multipurpose space which established researcher secured in first and second floor plan, this research tried to suggest reading room's desk, chair, and bookshelf's new design.

The researcher applied concept of 「Su」on Sanglok Children's library. This stands for children naturally do the activities and move like they are in the water, and read like they swamped in the water. Furniture's form made by using the characters of the water, and promote the communication between children and space. The communication with the space can be achieved when the space can support children's self-regulating and free behavior and satisfy the demand. By appling this concept, the researcher newly planned moving line, desk, chair and bookshelf. Chair and desk's hight control, bookshelf's cushioned edge, and perchable bookshelf satisfy all check list requirements. This can satisfy five categories -safety, flexibility, scale, convenience, ease that support children's behavior, considered suggested reading room furniture design which help settle children's effective reading habit. Through this design process, the researcher firmly suggested the furniture design which only can used by children on children's library. Also, the researcher provided the spec to actualize the furniture. The composition of the spec includes 3D modeling, measurement, plans and furniture drawings(Top view, Front view, Side view), material, color, characteristic in chart. Therefore, the researcher organized the point of view about newly designed Sanglok Children's library. Also, the researcher made a conclusion on reading room furniture's arrangement and form, by following 5 main categories which made by references and evaluation analysis. In conclusion, the researcher suggested a way to satisfy children's need and demand through new space design.
