상용 게임 엔진을 이용한 의료시뮬레이션 구축

Abstract

상용 게임 엔진의 기능이 향상되면서 범용 연구에 사용하려는 시도가 계속되고 있다. 본 연구는 임상 수술과 같은 의료 시뮬레이션 개발에 게임 엔진을 이용하려 한다. 게임 엔진을 사용하는 경우, 가상현실 하드웨어 지원이나 반투명한 물체의 깊이 정렬과 같이, 응용 프로그램 개발을 도울 수 있는 기능이 제공되어 편리하다. 한편 응용프로그램 구조를 게임 엔진의 특성에 적합하도록 수정해야하는 제약사항이 있다. 따라서 게임 엔진의 구조에 맞춰 의료 볼륨 데이터를 가시화하는 방법에 대해 설명하고 사용자의 요구에 즉각적으로 반응하여 관찰을 도울 수 있는 방법을 제안한다. 구체적 방법으로, 인체의 주요한 부분을 사용자가 선택하면, 선택한 부분의 가시화 파라미터를 두드러지게 변경하여 복합적인 효과를 보이는 초점 배경 가시화를 볼륨 데이터에 적용하려 한다. 그 과정에서 본 연구는 누적 기반 초점 배경 볼륨 가시화 방법을 제안하며, 제안 방법을 통해 배경 부분은 초점 부분과 자연스럽게 투명해져 융합된다. 또한 제안 방법은 기존 볼륨 가시화 방법과 잘 결합되기 때문에 볼륨의 절개와 같은 가상 수술 기능이 원활하게 수행된다. 그 결과, 의료 볼륨 데이터와 표면 데이터가 함께 구성된 가성현실 장면을 생성 하였으며, 입력 이벤트에 반응하는 응용 프로그램 개발이 가능하였다. 다양한 기능을 내장한 게임 엔진은 의료 시뮬레이션 개발에 도움이 된다.|As the functions of commercial game engines have improved, attempts to use it for general purpose research have continued. This study attempts to use game engines to develop medical simulations such as clinical operations. When using a game engine, there is an advantage that various functions required for an application are basically provided, such as depth sorting of translucent objects or virtual reality hardware support. On the other hand, there is a restriction that the structure of the application program should be modified to suit the characteristics of the game engine. Therefore, we explain how to visualize medical volume data according to the structure of game engine, and propose a method that can promptly respond to user's demand and help observation. Specifically, when the user selects an important portion of the human body, the focus-context visualization, which exhibits complex effects by changing the visualization parameters for the selected portion, is applied to the volume data. In the process, this study proposes the accumulation based focus+context volume visualization method. Proposed method is to make the background part more transparent and naturally fuse it with the focus part. Since the proposed method combines well with the existing volume visualization, the virtual surgery function such as incision of volume is performed smoothly. As a result, we created a virtual reality scene composed of surface data and medical volume data pieces together, and developed an application that responds to input events. A game engine with a variety of built-in functions can help develop medical simulation production tools.
