Abstract
This study was a research study that explored the developmental direction of education in the private academy. To attain the goal of this study, an attempt was made to investigate and analyze elementary children' and their parents' perception of education in the private school. Based upon the study results, the following conclusion was drawn:
First, as for the purpose of private academy education elementary children and their parents perceived, it was found that the former attached importance to the improvement of school records while the latter put emphasis on the development of aptitude. Therefore, it was found that there was a difference on the purpose of private academy education between elementary children and their parents.
Second, elementary children's parents have respect for their children's opinions in relation to the motive for them to allow their children to receive private academy education. A greater majority of parents allow their children to receive private academy education because children wants to learn and plan to do so until they want. This phenomenon indicates the interpretation that the school does not so much exert an influence on elementary children's education in the private academy, but rather elementary children and their parents exercise the right of autonomous learning choice. Therefore, elementary children receive education in the private academy according to their decisionmaking.
Third, most elementary children receive education in the private academy and take a course for less than one hour after school. This can be seen to be the phenomenon originating from such the features of contemporary society ass increasing working couples, the loss of the integrated educational function of the home due to nuclear family, the division of role, specialization and the like. Accordingly, elementary children's after-school activity shows an increasing tendency to depend on education in the private academy with the acceleration of urbanization and industrialization.
Fourth, it was found that elementary children found difficulty having free time due to private academy education in relation to its burden. Especially, it was found that their parents had the great burden in economic terms. The problem of private academy education is that it gives the household great economic burden to in terms of social education.
Fifth, the most noticeable one of the problems in private academy education is concerning expensive instructional charges and extracurricular expenses, where the side of elementary children showed their wish for cheap educational expenses. Their parents showed negative responses to fragmentary curriculum and educational contents. This indicates that elementary children raised the problem of educational expenses while their parents posed the problem of teachers' quality and educational program. This pertains to the qualitative problem of private academy education. Therefore, the private academy needs quality teachers, and teachers armed with quality and practical ability should instruct elementary children.
Sixth, as to the benefits of private academy education, children responded that it was greatly beneficial to them and further and their parents positively responded that it was greatly helpful to their children. This indicates that private academy education helps children improve their school records from their perspective and assists them in acquiring how to learn from parents's perspective. This implies that private academy education greatly helps children improve their school records and enlighten their aptitude.
