Abstract

There are many literary men forgotten or only whose names remain in the history of our literature by the designation of 'literary men kidnapped or going to North Korea' due to the political reality of national division. One of those literary men who have not attracted our attention because of historical and political vicissitude is Park Pal Yang. On account of historical influence with many complications, Park Pal Yang has shown himself as a KAPF poet, modernist, nationalistic idealist as diversely as his poetry. The purpose of this thesis is to find its right place in the history of Korean literature by exploring the feature of his poetical world and evaluate it through general reserach on Park Pal Yang' life and his poem. To do this, what to do first was to supplement and adjust unsufficient data until now. Thus this thesis examined only chronologically adjusted biographical consideration focused on the formation of personality. Also it confirmed that Park Pal Yang known to have been purged and completely disappeared in 1967, was reinstated and restarted a literary activity in the 1980's and died in 1988. As to Park Pal Yang's poetry, this study considered his poems the product of conflicts and sought to examine his inward looks revealed on them. Thus it inquired in various poems of realistic recognition corresponding to the shape of personal agony and historical demand appearing in his poems, interpreted those looks of conflicts as the meaning of 'reconciliation of history and poetry'. Park Pal Yang left many proses like poetic history, reviews, essays and novels in addition to poems. This thesis examined Park Pal Yang's view of literature forming the base of his literature like what effect these writings have on the creation of poems. And it could consider those aspects in a wide range of 'reconciliation of history and poetry', and ascertain his pioneering awareness to society. Given the period of Park Pal Yang's creative activity between 1923 and 1967, the period covers as many as 44 years, and a half of the works created at that age are those produced in North korea, the overcoming to the remaining half is an essential and left matter to the study on Park Pal Yang as well as on ' literary men kidnapped or going to North Korea'. Besides, based on that Park Pal Yang had vigorously led a literary activity since national division, the study on him can be expected to play a stepping stone to go forward the history of unified literature.
