미디어 파사드에 애니메이션 표현방식을 적용한 Visual Pun 표현유형

Abstract

미디어 파사드는 특정시간에 특정위치에서 불특정다수를 대상으로 메시지를 전달하는 특성을 가지고 있다. 다변화 되는 사회 속의 수용자 요구를 맞추기 위해서는 콘텐츠의 다양성과 차별화 그리고 즐거움을 주는 연출과 효율적인 표현방식의 제안이 필요하다. 이에 본 연구는 “미디어 파사드에서 이뤄지는 시각적 재미가 무엇인가?” 라는 의문점에서 출발을 했으며, 영상 콘텐츠의 재미와 유머러스한 표현에 대한 유용성을 찾고자 함이 목적이다. 본 연구는 문헌 고찰과 미디어 파사드에서 노출되고 있는 영상 이미지를 사례분석 하였고, 표현방식의 문제에 대한 해결책을 옥외광고의 선행연구를 통해 모색하였다. 그 결과 유머로 재미를 주는 광고유형이 선호도가 가장 높았으며, 커뮤니케이션에서 유머의 활용은 메시지의 주의를 높이고 설득효과에 긍정적인 영향을 미치고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 그러한 이유로 유머 생산방법의 유형 중 효과적으로 의미전달을 가능하게 하는 표현요소인 Visual Pun을 애니메이션의 시각요소와 접목시켰다. Visual Pun의 표현요소는 심벌의 대치, 조합, 조작이 있으며, 애니메이션의 시각요소는 형태, 색채, 움직임이다. 이를 접목하여 9가지의 ‘애니메이션 Visual Pun 표현유형'으로 다음과 같이 구분하였다. 이러한 9가지의 애니메이션 Visual Pun 표현유형의 특성이 수용자에게 어떠한 의미작용을 하는지와 어떠한 효과를 나타내는지를 탐색하기 위하여 기호학으로 Visual Pun 표현유형의 특성을 분석하였다. 그것을 위한 준비로 미디어 파사드에 적용 가능한 단편 애니메이션 <Larva>와 <Day & Night>를 선택하여 분석했다. 그 결과 애니메이션의 시각요소를 중심으로 보면 Visual Pun 표현요소와 상관없이 대부분 외시와 공시의 의미작용이 동의적 방향으로 이루어짐을 알 수 있었다. 또한 기호유형의 특성을 보면 애니메이션의 시각요소와는 상관없이 도상성이 강해 유머러스한 Pun 효과가 나타났다. 이를 토대로 미디어 파사드에서의 애니메이션 Visual Pun 표현유형 사례를 분석하였다. 이를 위하여 스토리텔링 기법이 사용된 미디어 파사드 중 애니메이션 시각요소에 의한 Visual Pun 표현유형이 적용된 작품 9개를 선정하여 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 해상도와 표현의 차이로 인해 LED는 대체로 2D 이미지로 프로젝터는 3D 이미지로 제작되며, 둘째, 애니메이션 Visual Pun 표현유형 중 미디어 파사드 영상 이미지는 4가지 유형(형태의 조합, 형태의 대치, 형태의 조작, 움직임의 조작)만 사용되는데, 이는 미디어 아트나 모션그래픽으로 구성되기 때문이다. 셋째, 기호 유형으로 주된 영상 이미지를 분석한 결과, 9개의 작품 중 7개 작품에 도상기호가 사용되어 유머러스한 Pun이 연출되었고, 남은 2개의 작품에는 지표기호가 사용되어 분석적인 Pun으로 표현되었다. 넷째, 의미작용으로 분석한 결과는 애니메이션 Visual Pun 표현유형과 상관없이 외시와 공시의 의미작용이 동의적 방향으로 이루어졌다. 다섯째, 미디어 파사드가 타 영상매체와 차별화 될 수 있는 것은 건물마다 구조가 다르기 때문이며, 이런 공간에 맞는 발상으로 효과적인 영상의 연출이 가능하다.

이러한 측면에서 유머러스한 애니메이션의 표현방식을 접목한 미디어 파사드는 기업의 정체성을 자유롭고 다양하게 보여주어 몰입도를 높여 차별화된 랜드마크로 대중에게 각인 시킬 수 있을 것이다. 이런 미디어 파사드는 일반 대중에게 재미와 즐거움으로 휴식의 공간을 제공 할 수 있으며, 제작자에겐 창작 공간의 영역확장과 수익창출의 새로운 모델이 될 것으로 기대한다.|A feature of media-facade is that messages intended for unspecified number of many people can be delivered at specific time and location. To meet users' requirement in a diversified society, diversity, differentiation, delightful directing, and effective expression method should be suggested. Thus, this research begins with the question of "what is Visual Pun that happens in media-facade?" and aims at finding fun and humorous expression of visual image content.

In this research, case analysis of visual image displayed in literature review and media-façade was performed, and solution for expression method problem through outdoor advertisement was sought. In conclusion, advertising style with fun of humor was most preferred, and messages drew more attention and had persuasive effect enjoyed positive momentum by using humor in communication.

For this reason, Visual Pun, the expression element that enables effective meaning delivery was grafted with visual element of animation. Expression elements of Visual Pun include confrontation, combination, and manipulation of symbol. Furthermore, visual elements of animation consist of shape, color, and motion. By grafting all these elements, nine types of “animation Visual Pun expression" are classified as the following.

To explore what level of significance and effects this trait of nine types of animation Visual Pun expression has, the trait of Visual Pun expression types was analyzed by using semiotics. As preparation of the analysis, short animation applicable to Media Facade, such as <Larva>and <Day & Night> were selected and analyzed. Consequently, when viewing from the visual element point of view, it shows that significance of denotation and connotation moves mostly toward direction of consent regardless of Visual Pun expression element. Also, when viewing at trait of symbol type, due to strong iconicity, humorous Pun effect was shown regardless of visual elements of animation.

Based on this, case study of Visual Pun expression type in media-facade was performed. As preparation for this analysis, among media-facade using story-telling method, nine pieces of product work that Visual Pun expression with animation visual element applied were selected and analyzed. Results are shown in the following.

First, due to difference between resolution and expression, LED image is mostly made to 2D image, and projector image is to 3D image. Second, media-facade visual image among animation Visual Pun expression type, only four types (shape combination, shape confrontation, shape manipulation, and motion manipulation) are used, because it consists of media art and motion graphic. Third, as a result of main visual image analysis by symbol type, iconic symbol was used in seven pieces of production work out of nine, and showed humorous pun. Index symbol was used in remaining two pieces of work and was expressed as analytical Pun. Fourth, for analysis result by significance, significance of denotation and connotation was made toward direction of consent regardless of Visual Pun expression element. Fifth, media-facade can be differentiated from other visual media because each building has different structure, and with the idea that fits this space, effective directing is possible.

In this respect, media-facade grafted with humorous animation expression method, displays fresh and various companies’ identities, raises concentration and will be imprinted to the public as differentiated landmark. This media-facade can provide resting space with fun and pleasure. And for producers, it is expected to be a new model of field expansion and profit creation.
