미각의 회화적 표현에 관한 연구

Abstract

음식은 사회문화 중 하나의 중요한 영역이고, 식습관은 한 사람의 정체성 표현으로 해석 된다. 몸에서 음식을 기억하기에 어떤 음식을 먹는지에 따라 그 사람이 어느 나라 출신인지 알 수 있을 정도이다. 미술계에서는 음식을 소재로 한 작품이 오래전부터 등장했으나 그 음식 자체를 집중적으로 다루는 작품은 보기 드물었다. 20세기 초 아방가르드 이후로, 1960년대에 들어서면서 급격한 산업 발달로 인해 기존 미학에 많은 변동이 있었다. 가장 핵심적으로 반(反)미학 이론이 등장하였고, 일상생활 중 음식 그 자체를 경험과 소재로 한 작업도 다양한 표현방식 중 하나로 등장하였다. 이는 다니엘 스포에리(Danial Spoerri)의 'Eat Art'(이트 아트 ,먹는 미술)처럼 새로운 미각의 체험, 음식을 통한 소통 등의 다양한 표현 방식으로 나타났다. 본인은 이런 다양한 문화를 형성하는 요소로서 음식에 대한 학습과 경험을 작품으로 풀어내는 과정을 보여주고자 한다. 본 논문은 새로운 음식 미술을 표현하는 시대적 흐름과 본인에 작품세계를 연결시키는 분석을 하고자 한다. 'Food Painting' 중심으로 미각을 시각적으로 표현한 연구이다. 본인의 'Food Painting' 작업은 일상적인 문화 중 ‘생일파티’ 문화가 지극히 형식적이라는 데서 <2013.05.27.>라는 음식 작품에서 시작되었다. 그 다음에는 다양한 소재의 평면 작품으로 회화적 표현을 통해 미각을 표현하였다. 이 작품들은 특징으로는 맛있는 음식을 맛없게 느낄 수 있도록 특별한 색감표현을 가미하여 일상 경험을 떠나 색다른 체험을 제공한다. 본인의 'Food Painting'은 드로잉과 회화 사이의 완성과 미완성의 기준을 깨고자 하였다. 그리고 우리 문화 속에서 경험과 독특한 표현의 조합을 이용해 시각으로 미각을 전달하는 데 중점을 두고 있다.| Food is one of the important areas of society and diet is an expression of a person's identity. One’s body remembers what one eats, so the origin of a person can be determined by examining what he eats. Food appeared as subject since long ago in arts, but artworks that intensively deal with food were rather rare. Since the early 20th century avant-garde movement, there has been dramatic changes to existing views on aesthetics as rapid industrial development unfolded over 1960s. Anti-aesthetics theory had emerged at the core and works that deal with food as we experience in our daily lives has been represented in various ways. Danial Spoerri's 'Eat Art' is an example of new gourmet experience and communication through food. This paper shows how the learning and experience of food as a core element that forms variety of cultures is transformed into artworks.

This paper attempts to analyze how my personal artworks fit in the bigger context and align with recent artistic movements that expresses food art and my personal artworks. This work is a visual representation of taste experience centered on 'food painting'. The work of food titled <2013.05.27.> was inspired by a realization that cultural custom of 'birthday party' is often a mere formality in our everyday lives. I expressed taste experience through a pictorial representation on flat canvas using variety of materials. 'Food Painting' breaks the boundary between drawing and painting, and between finished and unfinished standards. I have used a combination of experience and unique expression in our culture to transform taste experience into a visual experience.
