뮤지컬의 특수분장 제작과정에 관한 연구

Abstract

21세기 현대 산업사회의 여러 유망산업 분야 중, 문화산업 분야에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 이는 국민소득 수준의 향상, 주 5일 근무제에 따른 여가 시간의 확대 및 여성들의 사회진출, 가치관의 변화로 젊은 층이 중심인 신 소비층이 출현하게 되어 이들의 소비형태가 다변화되면서 여가 생활의 한 방법으로 영화, 공연, 전시 등 다양한 문화생활을 누리고자 하는 사람들이 많아지게 되었다. 때문에 공연예술에 대한 중요성이 재인식되고 삶의 가치가 체험 및 감성소비를 중요시하는 패러다임으로 변화하며 더욱 관심 받는 분야가 되었다. 공연예술에서 뮤지컬 분야는 젊은이들이 주 관객층으로 찾게 되면서 비약적인 발전을 이루고 있으며, 최근 들어 ‘뮤지컬의 전성시대’를 맞이했다고 할 수 있을 만큼 가파른 성장세를 보이고 있다. 무대극에서의 분장은 배역인물을 표현하는데 가장 외형적인 의사전달 수단으로 관객에게 극중 인물의 성격과 특징을 보다 뚜렷하게 보여줌으로서 극 흐름의 이해를 돕는다. 또한 특수분장이 활용되는 무대극은 시각적 효과로 극의 이해는 물론이고 프로세스에 따른 특수분장의 효과성, 무대에서의 캐릭터의 전환은 극의 완성도에 큰 영향을 끼친다. 이처럼 무대극에서의 특수분장은 다각도의 역할로 큰 비중을 담당하고 있는 반면 전문서적과 연구사례가 제한되어 실무자들의 경험을 토대로 현장에서 작업이 이루어지고 있는 추세이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 선행연구와 문헌을 통해 일반분장과 특수분장, 뮤지컬을 고찰하였으며, 시각자료를 통해 연구자가 직·간접적으로 참여한 뮤지컬 <이블 데드>, <미녀는 괴로워>, <오페라의 유령>의 특수분장 활용사례를 심층적으로 분석하였다. 이에 따른 특수분장의 제작과정, 특수재료, 분장표현 및 전환방법의 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 뮤지컬에 있어 특수분장 작업과 분장 전환 시, 가장 중요한 것은 시간의 단축이었다. 둘째. 특수분장 작업에 효과적으로 사용되어진 특수분장 재료의 다양성을 알 수 있었다. 셋째, 제작과정에 따른 특수분장은 무대극의 시‧공간적 제약을 극복하기 위해 숙련된 분장사로 발돋음 할 수 있는 개개인의 노력이 절실하다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 연구의 한계점으로는 특수분장 사례분석을 통해서 제작결과에 따른 단점을 알 수 있었다. <이블 데드>의 콜드폼 마스크 제작 시 단차가 두꺼워 피부와의 경계가 부자연스러워 아쉬움이 남았으며, <오페라의 유령>의 경우에는 특수분장을 하고 있는 시간이 길어 볼드캡 안에 땀이 차서 쾌적한 상태를 유지하지 못했다. 마지막으로 <미녀는 괴로워>의 특수분장에서는 실리콘이 유연성이 없어 얼굴의 움직임이 자연스럽지 않아 입 주변이 쉽게 떨어지는 문제점이 있었다. 본 연구를 통하여 앞서 언급한 연구의 한계점은 후속 연구과제로 남기며 실무자들이 특수분장에 쉽게 다가설 수 있는 기초자료로 활용될 수 있기를 기대해본다.| For twenty first century performing art is known as one of the promising industry. Emotional consuming is one of the issues for current consumers and this leads in soaring improvement in performing arts. Many people tend to enjoy performing arts compare to past. This is because 1.Rise in national income 2.More time for leisure due to 5day working system 4.More working women 5.Changes in value of youngsters. Among the performing art, Musical is the most promising industry. This sector is based on youngsters and it hugely improved, Make-up for musical performance is very important because it works as bridge between the art and the audiences. Make up helps understanding of character’s personality in variety of situations.

Special stage make-up even helps more through stand out visual. Like this Special stage make up has huge part in performing musical, but there are lack of professional material so, majority of practitioners can only rely on personal experience. I thought this was quite inconvenient. Majority of research in this paper is based on my personal experience while I was working for <The Phantom of the Opera>, <Evil Dead> and <200Pounds Beaty> The most important thing in special stage make-up and changing the make-up is speed in Musical performance, 1. I could get to know about variety of materials used in special stage make-up. 2. Individual’s endless effort and exploration to overcome the difficulties in the field is necessary, But through the research I could also find the limits as well. While producing a Cold Foam Mask for <Evil Dead> a gap between the mask and skin was huge, so it doesn’t look natural. For the case in <The Phantom of the Opera> actor should have to wear special stage make-up for very longtime so it was difficult to maintain hygienic status. Lastly in the case of <200 Pounds Beauty> lack of flexibility in silicon made actor’s face quite unnatural. As a result material around lips kept falling down. I hope that the practitioners in this make up field could use this material efficiently. And those limits I found through the research will be remained for further study.
