무용창작「편지, 그리고 잃어버린 스카프」에 대한 작품분석

Abstract

This study deals with the analysis of the work on the dance creation The Lost Scarf and a Letter. It is a drama-ballet type creation that focuses on the duality of affection through the relationship between three people. Analyzed things in this study are the creative intention of the work, the structure of the plot, the composition of the work, the meaning of choreography and expression, and stage elements. 'Drama Ballet' refers to a type of ballet that is valued in realistically expressing the narrative structure of characters and plots rather than formal beauty through the technique of ballet movement. I have intended to create from the point of view of this character of Drama ballet. Instead of a type of ballet that pursues formal beauty on the basic plot like “Swan Lake” or “Sleeping Beauty”, it is similar to “Giselle” or “Manon” that is expressed realistically through practical expression. ‘Love’ is a main emotion in this work. Love exists in many forms in various relationships such as family, lovers, friends, and religion. And it is an indispensable material in literary works and art like music, theater, and dance. So it is an important basic-emotion that cannot be freed from human life, and at the same time, it is a mixture of very complex emotions. In this work, I tried to develop a dramatic plot based on the love of man and women and the conflict between friends. This work, which deals with the above-mentioned reality of love and friendship, and the two-sidedness of affection as the main material, conceived the scene based on the following three compositional requirements. First, a contrasting development is needed to express emotions and relationships between characters. Second, three or more characters are required to contrast the two aspects of the scene at the same time. Third, it is necessary to use props to symbolize the connection between the main characters' relationships and contents. Accordingly, the work was composed of three chapters. Chapter 1 shows the personality and relationship of the three people with the theme of 'Scarf of Friendship and Poet', and Chapter 2, two women showing different developments of love in the same situation of accidental encounter through ‘Two scarves’. Third Chapter is the most important chapter which express the sadness and pain of love through the double-sidedness of love that can be turned from light into a shadow in a moment under the theme of ‘Light and Shadow’. Among the elements of the stage, props and costumes were designed in consideration of a personality of the characters, a historical background, and a symbolism of the relationship. The selection of music, which plays the most important role to set the mood in the work with the choreography, was decided in consideration of the periodic background and the flow of the atmosphere in the scene which helps audience could intuitively understand the content and meaning of the work. In conclusion, The Lost Scarf and a Letter is a drama ballet that valued realistically expressing the narrative structure of characters and plots rather than formal beauty through the technique of ballet movement, and it developed a dramatic plot of the conflict between characters’ love and friendship. Three chapters were organized around contrast development for the expression of relations, three characters, and the use of props symbolizing the relationship. Props and costumes were used considering the character's personality, historical background, and relationship symbolism. Music was decided by considering the historical background and the atmosphere of the scene so that the flow of the work could be intuitively understood.| 본 연구는 무용창작「편지, 그리고 잃어버린 스카프」에 대한 작품분석을 다루고 있다. 「편지, 그리고 잃어버린 스카프」는 드라마 발레(Drama Ballet) 유형의 창작물로 세 남녀의 관계를 통해 나타나는 애정의 양면성을 주제로 하고 있으며, 본 연구에서는 작품의 창작 의도, 플롯 구조, 작품의 구성, 안무와 표현의 의미, 무대 요소를 분석하였다. ‘드라마 발레(Drama Ballet)’란 발레 동작의 기교를 통한 형식미보다는 인물과 줄거리의 서사구조를 사실주의적으로 표현하는데 가치를 둔 발레의 작품 유형을 말한다. 이러한 사실주의적 드라마 발레의 관점에서「편지, 그리고 잃어버린 스카프」를 창작하고자 했다. 기본 플롯 위에 형식미를 추구하는 고전발레 “백조의 호수”나 “잠자는 숲속의 미녀”와 같은 유형이 아닌 실제적 표현을 통해 사실주의적으로 표현하는 “지젤”이나 “마농”과 유사한 작품이다. 본 작품에서 소재로 삼고 있는 주요 정서는 ‘사랑’이다. 사랑은 가족, 연인, 친구, 종교 등 다양한 인간관계에서 여러 형태로 존재하고 음악, 연극, 무용과 같은 예술과 문학작품에서 빼놓을 수 없는 소재이다. 그만큼 인간의 삶에서 유리될 수 없는 중요한 기본 정서이며 동시에 대단히 복합적인 감정의 혼합물이라고 할 수 있다. 본 작품에서는 여러 관계에서의 사랑 중에서 남녀의 사랑과 친구 간의 갈등을 소재로 극적 플롯을 전개하고자 하였다. 위와 같은 세 남녀의 사랑과 우정의 현실성, 그리고 애정의 양면성을 주요 소재로 다루고 있는 본 작품에서는 다음과 같은 세 가지 구성 요건을 바탕으로 장면을 구상하였다. 첫째, 등장인물 간의 감정과 관계를 표현하기 위한 대조적 전개가 요구된다. 둘째, 장면에서 두 양상을 동시에 대조적으로 표현하기 위해 3인 이상의 등장인물이 필요하다. 셋째, 주요 인물의 관계와 내용의 연결을 상징화하기 위한 소품 활용이 필요하다. 이에 따라 작품은 세 개의 장으로 구성되었다. 제1장은 ‘우정의 스카프와 시인’을 주제로 세 남녀의 성격과 관계의 시작을 나타내었고, 제2장은 ‘두 개의 스카프’를 통해 우연한 만남이라는 동일한 상황에서 서로 다른 사랑의 전개를 보여주는 두 여인을 그린다. 제3장은 ‘빛과 그림자’라는 주제로 빛처럼 밝다가 일순간 그림자로 돌변할 수 있는 사랑의 양면성을 통해 사랑의 비애와 고통을 표현하는 가장 비중이 큰 장이다. 무대 요소 중 소품과 의상은 등장인물의 성격, 설정된 시대적 배경, 관계의 상징성을 고려해 설계하였다. 안무와 함께 작품에서 분위기를 설정하는데 가장 중요한 역할을 하는 음악의 선정은 시대적 배경과 장면의 분위기의 흐름을 고려해 결정하여 관객이 작품의 내용과 의미를 직관적으로 이해할 수 있도록 하였다. 결론적으로「편지, 그리고 잃어버린 스카프」는 발레 동작의 기교를 통한 형식미보다는 인물과 줄거리의 서사구조를 사실주의적으로 표현하는데 가치를 둔 드라마 발레로 남녀의 사랑과 우정의 갈등을 극적 플롯으로 전개하였다. 관계 표현을 위한 대조적 전개와 3인의 등장인물, 그리고 관계를 상징하는 소품 활용을 중심으로 세 개의 장이 구성되었다. 소품과 의상은 인물의 성격, 시대적 배경, 관계의 상징성을 고려해 사용되었고 음악은 시대적 배경과 장면의 분위기의 흐름을 고려해 결정하여 작품의 흐름을 직관적으로 이해할 수 있도록 하였다.
