Abstract

The Korea Daily News (Korean edition, 1905∼1910) had comment column on current topics. In the previous studies, some works which had strict rhythm in that column were called 'Gaehwa Gasa'(개화가사) or 'Keimong Gasa'(계몽가사), but in this study all works that had organic structure between paragraphs will be called 'the comment poetry on current topics'(시사평론가) including 'Gaehwa Gasa' The reasons why they are called 'the comment poetry on current topics' are referring to the following statement. First, chapter II explains about special characters of comment column on current topics. In view of mutual relations based on newspaper between the writer and the reader, comment column on current topics has strong impression of political characters. Therefore, it is difficult to explain that comment column on current topics is explained to 'Gaehwa'(개화) or 'Keimong'(계몽) Second, chapter III is stated of the character of 'the comment poetry on current topics' and formal principle. 'Comment column on current topics'(시사평론가) imported various techniques for overcoming mannerism which was came from direct emotional criticism. In that procedure, that columns used disorganization and organization of many cultural phenomena like 'the traditional poems and songs' and the way of writing on the newspaper. It is quite similar to principle of formation of 'Japga Saseol'(잡가사설). The most important part of the formal principles is the use of 'prefatory paragraph' (seosa-dallak, 서사 단락). 'The comment poetry on current topics' ensured the rhythm and lyricism, is classified several types like 'lamentation', 'perusal', 'art', 'commentation', and 'metaphor'. In conclusion, 'the comment poetry on current topics' is the genre that was produced with foundation of press media and extincted with discontinuance. Although 'the comment poetry on current topics' is a 'reading poetry', that is worthy of understanding transfer process to the modern poetry in fact of accepting traditional poems and songs to prefatory paragraph.
