Abstract
국.영문초록 포함|Senescence is an important period of time that the elderly make a conclusion about their individual life. Most old people are still healthy enough to engage in a social life and possess a diversity of abilities. And they have an aspiration to search for the value life by contributing their human resources to society. In particular, aged volunteer activity is one good method to make active use of the idle manpower of the old population for them and social development. Therefore, this study was intended to investigate the degree of life satisfaction obtained by the old population through service activity to find out whether they were satisfied with their senescent life through aged voluntary activity still much inactivated in Korea.
As a result of investigation, it was shown that there were almost not old people that repented engaging in aged voluntary activity. The old people engaging in voluntary service activity had the very high score on their degree of life satisfaction that was the total average of 4,0 points. In the light of this fact, it is through that voluntary service activity may the sense of loneliness of the old people that may feel monotonous, alienated, or solitary. And it is through that voluntary service activity may not only cause the aged people to have a self-esteem of performing a role as the senior citizen of this society but help them lead a worthwhile and hopeful life.
Especially, the higher degree of participation the old man had in voluntary service activity and the more years of career they had in voluntary service activity, the higher degree of life satisfaction they had. The better response the beneficiary had to aged voluntary service activity, and the better response the family had to aged voluntary activity, the higher degree of life satisfaction the old volunteer had. Also, it was found that the old man not receiving voluntary service activity expenses had the higher degree of receiving them. This indicates that these is statistically a significant difference in the degree of life satisfaction between both groups.
Based upon these findings, the following several suggestions were made for the revitalization of aged voluntary activity. First, each old person is to establish his/her positive self-image that he/she can do something for this society. Second, the old person should be provided with an opportunity to participate in voluntary service activity. Third, the official organ should be founded that can take exclusive charge of aged voluntary activity. Fourth, the aged voluntary activity program will have to be developed that is suited to the old population. Fifth, financial support will have to be provided for the revitalization of aged voluntary activity. Sixth, old volunteer in service activity will have to be induced to and enhance their morale and motivated to participate in service activity.
