Abstract
The fundamental goal of this study is to research the personality of Korean Christioan Leaders. For this purpose, the theme of this study was inquired into in the following frder. First of all, the relevant theoretical background was discussed by division into section 1 and section 2 in chapter 2.
The problems of leaders and leadership was discussed in section 1, and in the study on leadership the achievements of general sciences can be thought to play a role in a stepping-stone for an understandijg of christian(or Biblical) leadership. And the concept and type of the leader as well as the theory of leadership were introduced. In general, it can made sure that "leadership"has been applied as a side range of concept. In particular, for all that the "traits theory"contaion its own shortcoming in itself, the fact that it can be reilluminated from a christian perspective will not be able to be overlooked.
The problems of the leader and his/ger personality were theorized in section2, but in fact, personality is a sifficult concept to define.
Throgout the years, a number of scholars have attempted to define it appropriately.
The reason why diverse theories have apperaed in personality theory is the difference of perspective and the method to analyze its results. The qualities of iesposition and personality required for the leader may be varide diversely, depending on his position and role. The problems such as the method of study, in section I data analysis in section II , and discussion over the outcomes of data analysis were inquired into under the heading of a position study on the personality of Korean Christioan Leader in Chapter 3. Christian leadership is not headship. The leadership in the body of Jesus christ is substantially different form the leadership of his pooonents(for example, corporate leadership). The body of Jesus christ is the living organism, and the christian leader is the leader to serve Jesus christ. The primary goal of the christian leader is the health of the orgamism and simultaneouly the health of all the body and the limbs.
Accordingly, the leader sacrificing gimeslf for this purpose shows the traits of personality distinct from the secular leader.
The model of leadership that Jesus Christ shows us is "the man to serve God". This model lays emphasis on "service". Accordingly, Biblical leadership is not "Headship"but "servantship". In this light the Bible lays stress on humility as the virture of leadership. The christioan leader should cultivate this humble attitude toward God and men.
Even though the christian leader is the humble leader to serve God there is not without power to him. When the leader leads a humble, sarckficial life, his members respond to him with the attitudes of reverence and obedience toward him. The christian leader the one that dominates others and requires their obdience to himself. He is willing to acknowledge that Jesus chirst is the man with supreme authority. jesus Christ should lower himself, enhace christians and change them so that they may be elevated and blameless. The christian leader is the one that participate in the service of Jesus Christ and serves the body of Jesus christ.
Therefore, the personality of the christian leader has very great weight in his leadership. The christian leader must be a mature man spiritually. This maturity contains sensational maturity as well. He should have right self-image based upon the word of the Bible. First of all, the christian leader is conspicuoulsly charaterized by the attitude of gentle and humble servant as the servant-elader.
His authority is the quality of his own life and simultaneously his model.
The christian leader should learn the principle of a "model"from the word of the Bible.
The christian leader will not unilaterally ask others to do one thing or another.
He take an initiative in everything as the serice to God. His model has a strong power than can people's minds.
The christian leader is the one to show a model in the personality resempling that of christ, value-view and conduct of coursem however mature he may be, he will not be able to show a perfect model to others.
When the leader opens his own life to others, they will come to find out his several drawnacks and faults.
But, the christian leader shoule not be afraid of these points. For if the leader is really a sacrificial "servant- leader, people can- see more than that.
In other words, when pelple watch the life of the true leader, they come to see the reflection on the glory of christ. The christian leader should be selected according to the standard given in the bible.
Christians should lood at the word expressed with the life of their leader. In other words, the wpiritual leader should mature endlessly to show in the concrete all the words taught by himself in his life.
The servant-leader don't confuse his authority with power. He speaks to others and behave himself with authority given to him by God. He is the one that serve the members of the body, make free them and help others obey and respond to Jesus christ. He don't make people obey his will by his own authouity but make them obey the word of Jesus christ. The christian leader is the one that is called to devote his fidelity to Jesus christ, the head of the body and sacrifice himself for all christians, the family of God, Jesus christ is the living head of the churchl. The duty of the leader, of the body of Jesus christ, is to lead the memvers of the body and get them to have relations to respond to Jesus Christ.
Therefore, the christian leader will have to develop "the nature of the leader"based upon the biblical principle before this glorious calling. For the spiritual leadership required for the leader clearly shows the importance of his personality traits. Since the christian leader is the servan-leader, he should proceed to resemble the personality and life of Jesus christ, the servant-leader, witout pause.
