Abstract
This study is to give how the corporate foundation and the large corporation in the country are responsible for the social activities in developing corporate contribution activities and play a role as the center of the social welfare called the third field.
Literature review and secondary data was used to achieve the purpose of the study.
First, theoretical background on corporate's Philanthropies, Social responsibility and roles of corporate were examined through literature review.
Second, investigate actual conditions of the large corporations the corporate foundation.
The time period covered on the study was from year 1998 to early 2001.
To cope with this new demand of social welfare more effectively, the need for a corporate's role in social contributions are requested.
Under these circumstances, corporate's contribution efforts under went a paradigm shift.
When looking at this shift, one can see that he objective of these efforts was redirected from these efforts was redirected from a charity-base motivation.
In other words, corporations are new devoting funds to social organization in order to raise brand recognition.
Furthermore, through social contribution activities, they sought to utilize employ-volunteer programs to improve business.
In other to show this need, this paper will serve in presenting the prospects of corporate contribution activities, a proposal and direction of how strategic social contribution activities will change the current paradigm, the current status of social contribution activities of corporate and corporate foundation, the methods these corporate used during difficult economic times.
The world has been increasingly conscious of the effect and the value of the corporate community relations, which each corporation is trying to approach in terms of management strategy.
That is, each has increased the support of the non-profit organizations, has recognized that the corporate community relations has something to do with more active investment, and has estimated that such lucrative investment will give vast interests to the corporation in the long run.
The results of the study are as the following.
First, the corporations had better continue to contribute to the social development than try to make much profit.
Second, they have broaden the corporate community relations to the social welfare and the local community activation by reflecting the social demands through the voluntary and active participation as the corporate citizens.
Third, it is necessary to make the social environment in which the corporation estimates its value, the society reconsiders the corporation, and the financial system is supported on every phases.
Fourth, the large corporation should seek to become the corporate citizen heightening its image and pursuing long-term profit as one of the survival strategies in the new age of reform.
The short history of corporate community relation has not been noticeable achievement in Korea. Although it was compulsory and almost forced in its beginning, the recent tendency is toward more active and voluntary community relation on the bass of the corporate citizenship.
Nowadays, social contribution activities are becoming important elements of business strategy. A corporation will not be judged just by the quality of the product it supplies or the size of its profits. It will be judged by the efforts it makes to become a respected company. The standards for this will become more clear in the globally competitive environment of the 21st century.
