Abstract
This study was intended to reilluminate the educational significance of the corporal punishment inflicted on students by investigating and analyzing the attitude of teachers, students and parents toward the problem of students' corporal punishment.
Responses obtained from the questionnaire research were analyzed. As a result, the findings were summarized as follows :
1) Teachers thought that they should correct students' misbehaviors by admonishing or reprimanding them for them in guiding them in a right way.
It was found that there was a difference in it according to gender. More male teachers thought it right to inflict corporal punishment on the student for misbehaviors such as telling a lie or stealing others' things than female teachers.
2) The group of parents most thought that teachers should admonish or reprimand students for misbehaviors. More than 50% of them responded that teachers should inflict corporal punishment on students. More than the groups of teachers or students, the group of parents thought that students' misbehaviors should not be passed unnoticed. Especially, male parents wanted teachers to inflict parents.
3) Students thought that their misbehaviors should be passed unnoticed and hated receiving corporal punishment for their misbehaviors very much. The higher proportion of schoolgirls responded that teachers should admonish or reprimand students for misbehaviors than schoolboys.
4) Teachers and parents thought that students would repent of or reflect on their misbehaviors after they suffered corporal punishment from teachers, whereas students thought that they would invariably continue to behave themselves even though they suffered corporal punishment. Especially, schoolgirls thought that they would invariably behave them- selves even though they suffered corporal punishment while schoolboys relatively much thought that they would hate teachers.
5) Students showed a high response that they would be awakened if they suffered corporal punishment. They thought that they would form a trust relationship to the teacher after they suffered corporal punishment. They more thought that they should not suffer corporal punishment than they otherwise thought.
6) Students more thought that their school records would improve if they suffered corporal punishment than they otherwise thought. Students showed the high response that if they suffered corporal punishment its effect lasted long.
7) The groups of parents and teachers generally showed the consensus in that they should treat special misbehaviors in a comparatively strong method of corporal punishment.
