Abstract

This thesis is a research on the actual conditions of Kyeongrodang(a place of respect for the elderly) and the need for data in assessing the desires of people using it. There is a purpose that is presentation for development through activity programs of Kyeongrodang. The change in structures of society and its values has brought out a weakening of thoughts for the elderly retrospective of traditional Korean culture and custom. These changes increased the amount of duty loss for the old people. They underwent estrangement from society and home according to factors such as the collapse of an extended family system and an old person's weakness in status. Kyeongrodang is distributed as a typical old person's leisure in Korea and is easy to use generally but not useful today by the defect of institutions, the poverty of programs, financial difficulties, etc. The research about the desire and consciousness of old people has to be continued in Korea. When we consider that there are no welfare facilities for old people, the ideal is to form a multipurpose cultural center which can satisfy all of their desires.
