Abstract

21세기 디지털 기술의 무한한 발전으로 미디어 아트와 커뮤니케이션의 접목된 형태로 공간과 시간, 속도, 소리 등을 혼합하여 키네틱 타이포그래피(kinetic typography)라는 새로운 타이포그래피의 표현방식이 생겨났다. 키네틱 타이포그래피는 과거에는 경험하지 못했던 시간과 공간, 그리고 오브제라는 새로운 요소들이 만나 미디어 내에서의 메시지를 구체화 시키는 하나의 표현방식으로 자리 잡았고 그 결과 작가와 관람자의 커뮤니케이션 자체가 변화하기 시작했다. 관람자의 욕구를 충족시킬 수 있는 시각적 커뮤니케이션을 제공하기 위한 활용도가 크게 높아지고 있다.

따라서 본 연구는 그래픽 분야의 새로운 연구과제로 주목받고 있는 오브제와 키네틱 타이포그래피와 관련한 작업 등을 이론적으로 살펴본 후, 영상과 오브제를 활용한 키네틱 타이포그래피, 즉 오브제티미지(Objectimage) 작업을 시도해 보았다. 새장, 시계, 자전거 바퀴를 오브제로 사용하면서 의도적 우연성과 시간성에 초점을 맞추었고, 또한 빛에 의한 오브제의 그림자 표현 이후, 투사된 키네틱 타이포그래피로 표현기법을 다양화시킴으로써 작품의 시간과 공간을 확대시켰다.

오브제의 그림자와 키네틱 타이포그래피 영상을 통해 관람자가 보는 취향에 따라 다양한 표현을 가능하게 하였다. 이러한 의도는 작품에 대한 관람자의 적극적인 참여와 개입의 유도였다. 키네틱 타이포그래피의 새로운 자극과 작품과 관람자간의 새로운 커뮤니케이션을 만들어 내고자 한 것이다. 오브제티미지는 다양한 활용가능성을 갖고 있다고 본다. 앞으로도 현대미술의 오브제는 끊임없이 우리에게 삶에 신선한 충격을 제공해 줄 것이며 미의 원천으로도 작용할 것이다. 빠른 속도로 변해가는 현대미술의 흐름 속에서 어떤 고정 관념이나 현실에 안주하지 않고 자신의 삶을 예술을 위한 재료로 삼아 그 과정을 통해 미적 가치를 드러내고자 한 것이 본 연구자의 실험 작업의 핵심이다.| Infinite development of digital technology in the 21st Century has brought about a new sort of typographic representation method, kinetic typography, obtained by mixing space, time, speed and sound through convergence of media art and communication. Kinetic typography has been considered as an expression way that take concrete massages in media by having new materials such as space, time and objects met. As a result of it, moreover, communication itself between artists and the gallery started changing. Utilization has been increased providing visual communication in order to meet the gallery’s needs. This study, therefore, will look into objects, kinetic typography and relevant works in a theoretical way that have been issues as research topics; after that, it will show videos and objects I’ve worked using kinetic typography. In other words, I tried to work on Objectimage. This work is focused on intended eventuality and temporality using bird cages, clocks and wheels of bicycles as objects. In addition, space and time in this work are magnified by means of diversifying representation techniques using projected kinetic typography after expressing objects’ shadow through light. It is intended to make it possible for the gallery to watch this work in their point of view and tastes when they see objects’ shadow and kinetic typography videos. It is induced that the intention works for the active participation and involvement of audience. It is also intended to build a new communication method with audience and stimulate kinetic typography expression. It is highly likely that Objectimage has lots of usability. In future, Objects of modern art will not only constantly present our life with fresh impact but also work as a source of beauty. The point of the researcher’s experimental work is that an aesthetic value is tried to be revealed through a process of using artists themselves’ lives as materials for art without settling for the present in this rapid changing circumstance and flow of modern art.
